How Long Does it Take to Replace a Remote Control?

The remote control stopped working with the television that came with it. In November, I was inBest Buy and was asked to call the Geek Squad so I did and made an appointment for November 16th. Javier came out and told me the remote was no good and he would be ordering another remote that never came. Now it is December and he finally came very close to year ending and all is well.

The in-home technician was professional, diagnosed the issue, resolved it quickly and was very pleasant. The only reason the review isn’t rated five star has nothing to do with that technician. When I phoned the Geek Squad they were unable to troubleshoot my problem and scheduled an in-home technician. The solution to our issue was a simple reboot by disconnecting the cord, waiting 15 seconds and reconnecting. So I pay for a service that only succeeded in sending me a repair technician which I then paid for in top of the annual fee. Didn’t feel this was a great deal for me. Will have to rethink my annual membership.

The technician came fully equipped and was very skillful in completing the tasks. He went above and beyond by programming the remote to turn everything on and off instead of me having to use three separate remotes. This is something that the guys who installed the TV were unable to do. That's the reason that they sent out this knowledgeable person to help me and that he did by hooking up my soundbar and woofer. The best investment I've made in a long time was buying that total tech plan. They'll even come to your house to install things you didn't buy through Best buy. Great service!

The Opal 1.0 was a really high maintenance item that required frequent cleaning and stroking. It died.
Enter Opal 2.0 purchased at Best Buy. After reading of improvements in design GE made, I took the plunge again. Much better unit….but:
Must be thoroughly cleaned at least once a month.
Has started leaking intermittently
And most recently, it decides to not make ice.
The last item is corrected at the moment by unplugging and plugging back in, so it must have a board going bad.
Oh! Some may wonder….we have always used highly filtered water in this thing….
On a good day the Opal 2.0 makes great ice and does so quickly. Soft, chewable, enjoyable ice!
However, I will not recommend this appliance. It has lasted 2.5 years…a year longer than the first model. Considering this is an expensive unit, it requires too much stoking and lacks durability.

My Fire tv was running out of storage and causing it to utter frequently. IVeiwing was continuously stopped so I could clear space in storage. Geek Sauad installed a USB stick for extra storage and that ended the buffering problem. As a courtecy, they also got the video on my ring doorbell going again. They also checked the router installed Geek Squad last time they were here to be certain it was operating properly.
Geek Squad has made 2 service calls to my house and provided excellent service both times!

The reason I was willing to pay $200 for the mounting and setup service was because this is the first item I bought a 70' TV and my home came with wall built in home theater system which needed some setup. Although, I manage to figure out receiver/speaker/TV connection, I needed some help to somehow connect all devices to the TV directly and not to the receiver. The first guy from Geek Squad was great but he wasn't able to help with all technical stuff (more specifically connecting all devices to the TV directly and not to the receiver. Another problem was the apps on TV wouldn't play on the speaker) so I had to help myself and make phone calls to LG and Onkyo to figure all of it on my own. I realized all I needed was an ARC HDMI cable. Next, I needed help to put my new cable through the wall because it wasn't available the first time so I went to BB store and the staff was kind enough to setup the $100 service for free.
Unfortunately, the guy who came out this time turned out to be Andy Vu, Mr. Know-it-all, who talks too much and gets very little done, to be honest.
Simple task of running the wires through the wall that the first guy (who was actually new to the job) was able to do easily took Andy a lot of time. He constantly argued and kept suggesting other ideas that I had no interest in. I simply asked him to do the job I requested BB for i.e. to run an hdmi cable through the wall, that's it. I told him I tested the cable and it works fine. I just need it to go through the wall so it doesn't look ugly hanging out. Andy responded "Don't worry about what you tested" and suggested that he has ways he can make my preexisting cables to do the job. I knew those wouldn't work as they are regular HDMI cable, not ARC HDMI cable. After wasting almost 30 to 40 minutes, he failed and basically lied to me that the task was done. When I tested the results, it didn't do what it was supposed to (TV apps didn't work on speakers because TV was connected via regular cable and I tested that already). Andy made lame excuses for it when he knew his approach was wrong which he just didn't want to admit.
I asked him over and over again to just run the new cable through the wall. After much arguing, he agreed because I showed how truly dissatisfied I was with his service. My time was wasted and I had a bad experience with him.
Next time, I am asking BB to not send this guy for any service.

Daniel answered questions clearly and was very helpful. Casey was not very helpful. He acted defensive and put upon. This attitude didn't help us figure out how to adjust our universal remote which we bought at Best Buy. He told us we had a poor quality remote and hadn't taken good care of it so he couldn't do anything for us. We were basically asking how long remotes tend to last, whether there were directions on line to help us reassign the buttons uses, (Geek Squad did this for us when the t.v. was replaced.) he said that was impossible to do and had never happened. I was feeling angry by this time, my wife was feeling humiliated, and I believe Daniel was probably embarrassed though he never said anything.

The tech (Sue?) who troubleshot my new TV connections was really helpful. Called to let me know when she would be there and arrived a little early ;-) Did a great job explaining. Very helpful and she called back later to make sure things were ok. Very pleased with her performance.
