You need a power lead to the thermostate.

My setup did not have the power lead. So it became a nightmare to hook up this unit. I had to call HVAC people and they wanted more money than this unit would have saved us in 100 years.

i’m thinking of getting a programmable thermostat but need to know if any can b wired with 4 wires. I haven’t received my refund or my $99 I paid to have geeks install. They promised both. When i get the money i will give 5 stars to Best Buy. When i returned they said it would take a few days to appear on credit card. It’s been a week

OK for a smart thermostat. It is a little clunky to use. The web interface is easier than the device panel.

Hi BRRH, thank you for bringing this to our attention. We recommend you verifying that you have a C wire and checking the AC voltage between the R and C wires. If the voltage is between 20-30 VAC then you contact the place of purchase to receive a warranty replacement. - Maria resideo

I bought three of these thermostats to upgrade my existing wi-fi-connected Honeywell thermostats. Unfortunately, the push tabs to release the wires are so frail, several broke while trying to install them. Ultimately, I returned these and I'm still on the hunt for something better.

    Cant accurately tell indoor temperature

Thermostat could not accurately tell indoor temperature and would fluctuate +/- 5 degrees in 5 minutes. This would cause my emergency heat to cycle on when it was not needd. House temperature was 72 and the thermostat would read 72. A few seconds later the thermostat would read 68 and would cycle on emergency heat. After a few more seconds the indoor temp would read 73 (which was higher that the set point). I put my original thermostat back in and had no problems the indoor temperature was maintained and my heat pump system worked as expected.

    Defective thermometers inside some thermostats

I have bought two RTH9585s in the last couple of days. The thermometer on the first one drifted up to 78 degrees although the actual room temperature remained around 69. Then I bought another and swapped the thermostat units. On the second one, the thermometer temperature drifted down to 58 while the room remained around 69. I can only conclude that the thermometers in these thermostats are unreliable. I'm going to return both and buy something else. I'm very disappointed. Search the internet for this thermostat and you'll find that others have had bad thermometers in their units as well.

DO NOT BUY! Unreal, I have paid TWO separate electricians to try and install this piece of garbage. Neither could get it to control the heat. I am actually so happy that it did not work because once it was on my wall I knew how cheap and horrible it was. The touch screen is a joke requiring one to press down as hard as they can to get it to react. Oh yes for some reason it comes with preset holds and schedule's that we were unable to clear. I honestly thought this would be a good choice rather than the NEST. Get a non smart thermostat, these things are a joke!
