The product my home needed, this thermostat is simply awesome. I am beyond happy with the design of the Honeywell brand smart thermostat compared to my old digital one. I have already noticed my furnace running less as it actually shuts it off at the desired temperature. Install was simple once I installed the recommend C wire. The mounting bracket happened to use my exact same holes as my last one, so no new holes. Wiring was simple plug and play, no guessing at all. The Wi-Fi functionality is the best part, outside vs inside temperatures are a nice touch. I also like the humidity level in the home being displayed, great info to have on tap. Android application and registration is painless, it just works, and it is nice to see. Positives: Easy install Looks awesome Customizable color Saves money Wi-Fi connected Scheduled temperatures I have zero negatives. Forget the Nest, fly to the Honeywell. Yes, that was corny, but honestly, this is a great buy!

This unit replaced my existing thermostat for a couple reasons. First is the cool factor. This looks great on the wall. Second, it has very easy setup and scheduling. And lastly, it is WiFi compatible. As for installation, it is pretty easy but if you are not comfortable with all the wires and depending on your systems there could be eight, call someone who knows. It is however very simple because the unit comes with labels for your existing wiring so as long as you're not replacing a thermostat from the 70's an average DIY person should be able to do this. I was up and running in about 7 minutes. No kidding. This unit was smaller that its predecessor so I did have to do some touch up painting. You do have to use a web browser to register it so you can control it remotely but that was straightforward as well as joining to WiFi. It is easy to program following the guide or you can do it manually. Overall this is a great device and I will be adding another to my second floor.

I need to start off by saying you will need a “C” wire for 24volts of AC power in order to power this thermostat, if you don’t have this then this thermostat will not work for you. Installation is very easy, install the mount and your wires which are clearly marked so you can’t make any mistakes. Once installed the unit will power up, just follow prompts to set everything up, WiFi first of course. The screen is easy to read and very intuitive. The main reason to get this thermostat is the Total Connect App that allows full customization that’s easy to do and adjust as you go along. You can also adjust your system from wherever you are via the app which is nothing short of amazing. It will also work with voice control which is more and more a must. For a great thermostat that will do all you need and help you become more energy efficient you can’t go wrong, the only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars in my opinion is because it can’t be installed in all applications due to the necessity of having the “C” wire.

Honeywell thermostat Model RTH9585WF. This thermostat is smaller than it looks on the box, or on the website. It measures 4-1/2"W, 3-1/2"H, and 7/8"D. If you're replacing an old thermostat that's larger, and most are, you may need to touch up the paint around it. The screw holes on my last 2 thermostats lined up, this one was no different. Mounting the back plate I discovered it is very thin and flimsy. With barely enough force to keep the thermostat on the wall the back plate deforms. It's not a huge deal but if you're overly picky this will bug you. When viewed from the side you can clearly see that the thermostat back plate is warping. I tried backing the screws off until the warp is gone. When I get them backed out far enough to stop the warp the thermostat will no longer stay level and is then moved around by the wiring attached, or when you touch it. Setup went as expected, easy and understandable. My wiring matched exactly what would be expected and no tags were necessary for wiring. My wiring was a little thicker than what the connector likes, but allowed for installation and kept the wire held tight. The thermostat has no battery backup. It is run completely from your system. You MUST have a "C" wire, or use the jumper to fake the "C" wire. With the fake setting certain things are disabled with the fan. I would recommend you investigate if you have a "C" wire before purchasing. If not, consider having your system updated to include one. I didn't find in the manual where it stated if the program you setup is backed up in non-volatile memory or located in the Honeywell account you have to create. Either way is fine as long as the setting are stored someplace. The top buttons are very close to the top so my big fingers have a hard time touching them, they could be just a little bigger so people with larger hands wouldn't have to turn their finger sideways to touch the button. But that's an issue with my fingers, not the display, I have hard time with my phone as well. As with all other Honeywell thermostats they have left out the swing setting. Something that is very important to keep your AC from cycling on and off 10 times an hour. What they did do is make the internal temperature indicator very slow to respond. This will act like a swing setting but is not adjustable. The offset on the internal temperature and humidity display can be adjusted to match what the actual temperature and humidity are. The outside temperature is coming from a local source via the internet, but the location is not selectable. This makes it close but not real since where they are getting it is different from my house by as much as 7 degrees. This morning it was off by 7 degrees, this afternoon it was only off by 2 degrees. As long as you look at this as an average for the area, it's fine. It can do auto changeover. This is a must at my house. It can be in the 50's in the morning and then hit 98° in the afternoon. The phone App works great so far. However it does not have the same layout as the thermostat, why? The App for Android, iPhone, and iPad all have different layouts, again why? You can also log into the thermostat from your computer, just log into your account and the thermostat will show up. But again, different layout. I would really like to point out, this layout difference is not a big deal as you will no doubt find the device you want to control it with and learn that layout. But to have a real display on the thermostat and not have all devices look and feel the same is just poor programming. Just know that what you see on your device will not look like the thermostat. The information will be the same but displayed differently. On a note of curiosity, when I downloaded the App it said in-app purchase. When I opened it there was a brief screen that said something about use and control. When I logged into my account that went away. I've tried to look it up and find nothing about purchasing this App. Everyplace I look says the App is free. Maybe it's not free if you don't have the Honeywell account? This is my 4th Honeywell thermostat. 2 of the others died and were replaced by Honeywell, not fast, as a matter of fact it took them close to 4 months to replace them, but they did replace them. The other one was taken out of service because of the lack of a swing setting. To date all Honeywell thermostats have been removed and replaced by other brands. All because of the missing swing setting. I'm very hopeful that the slow response to the temperature will allow this one to work correctly. I enjoy so many of the features, it would be a real shame to have to remove this one because of a missing setting. I have asked Honeywell directly about the missing swing setting. They have no intention of adding it. Some manufactures still have this feature, but not Honeywell. Honeywell has gone to comfort over energy savings. They do include a pre programmed energy saving program, but you may not be comfortable in your home using it. I miss the days of Energy Star rated thermostats. In order for them to get an Energy Star rating they had to include a swing setting. But that endorsement was abandoned, so now, if you want a swing setting, you are limited on what you can get.

Installation is easy if you take your time and match up the wires on your old thermostat with the new ones. I found that the holes in the wall were the same for the new thermostat as they were for the old so I suspect most installations will not require drilling new holes. I will give some detail that might help you if you do choose this thermostat which can work in a simple or more advanced mode. It also has WiFi built in so you can control it from anywhere. This is a very well designed smart thermostat. It is easier to install than you might think. So don’t be afraid to tackle the job yourself. It can be programmed in a simple manner or you can use more advanced programming functions. All the installation and programming information is included in a very professional document. You get both a quick start guide and a more detailed installation and user guide. One big plus is this unit does not use a battery. My current thermostat was a Trane branded unit with a rather dim black/white display and did use a battery for power. When the display got dim, you knew to put in more batteries. This always puzzled me since a furnace normally has a 24 VAC power connection that can easily be utilized to power the thermostat. Rest assured this thermostat does not need the battery as it does use this common power feed. Before you install the thermostat you will remove the cover off your old thermostat and take a photo so that you have a reference – this is all pointed out in the super easy instructions. Depending on if your furnace is single or two stage there will be 5 or 7 wires probably. The guide will take you through making the correct connections from your old thermostat to this new super bright color display. Here’s a tip if you have a Trane furnace with a Trane battery operated thermostat: you won’t see a wire labeled ‘C’ (which is the 24 VAC I mentioned. Instead you will see a connection to a ‘B’ terminal on your old thermostat. Don’t worry, take a quick look at your furnace (remove just the cover), and you will see the wires coming from the furnace to the thermostat. There will be a wire labeled ‘B/C’. This will most likely be blue in color and will be the wire you see connected to the thermostat labeled ‘B’. On your new Honeywell thermostat you will not see a ‘B’ terminal but you will see a ‘C’ terminal and that’s where this wire will go. All the others will be named identical on both thermostats. The guide was not clear on this point so I’m putting it down here. There are YouTube videos and other references you can find in addition to the provided installation guide to cover all kinds of furnaces including heat pumps and gas or oil fired. Another tip, be sure when connecting to the new thermostat that you push the wire fully into the appropriate connector, you will feel it pop in. If you want your furnace person to do this, they can swap the thermostats in less than 10 minutes. It took me about 30 minutes going very carefully. Configuring your furnace is easy as this unit provides very clear setup instructions right on the display. An example is that it will ask you if you have a single stage or dual stage furnace and if you select dual stage it will even say which wires you should have hooked up. You can easily and very clearly set your heating and cooling temperatures and also can program functions for daily programming. It is very sophistacted in that if you set a start time, it will figure when to actually start the furnace or AC so that when your start time comes it will be at the temperature you set up – neat. This device is a smart device and you can connect it to your home WiFi and control it from a PC, or a cell phone. You can connect remotely or just in your house. You do need to program in a MAC address and a MAC CRC, they provide both numbers. Another cool function is that it will automatically update its firmware over the WiFi. You can customize screen colors, make holiday schedules and so forth. The comprehensive documentation makes it easy. This is one beautiful thermostat both in ease of use and functionality. I definitely recommend this one.

You Can Always Depend On Honeywell

This is but one of Honeywell's additions to the growing number of smart and Wi-Fi Thermostats that are on the market from various companies. The installation was quick and easy, at least for me. Just take a picture of the lugs on the current thermostats base so you know for sure what wire was in what letter terminal on your existing thermostat. (After turning off the power to the HVAC at the breaker box of at the system switch.) Mine was wired as it should be with all wires on the same corresponding letter for the color of the insulation on the wire (Yellow on Y, Red on R, White on W, etc) but that may not be the same in all installations thats what the pic comes in handy. Plenty of easy helpful installation guides and videos are online to help you if needed so I wont go into that with you. Ill just say, its easy. If you can wire up a doorbell or install a smoke alarm you can do this. If you dont feel you can call up a reputable local heating and cooling company and let them do it for you. Either way in less than a half an hour you will be controlling your HVAC with the Honeywell Wi-Fi Thermostat and enjoying the convenience of making adjustments to the heat from the touch screen on the thermostat, you computer or tablet or your smartphone. And that can be done from the convenience of your chair or bed or even from work or while on vacation. Its both programmable and has the ability to learn your desires and habits to keep you comfortable all the time while it sames you money by adjusting the unit up or down when nobody is home or by the schedule you set from the unit or your computer or phone. Its super easy to use and I wish we had one of these when I was laid up after surgery for a few weeks. Then I could have adjusted the temp without going down the hall on my walker. You could even put one in the home of a family member that has mobility issues to make adjusting the heat and ac easier for them or even do it for them from you home. Its a great thing to have and dont overlook the possible rebate if you qualify and have a local utility offering one.

The first thing I noticed upon opening the box was how small this thermostat is. We had an older wifi thermostat, and it was huge comparatively. The Honeywell Smart - Color is small and solid. The installation is easy, and if you go to their YouTube video, you'll have it done in a snap. Label all the wires, and you're set. I already had a C-wire, so no problems there. The app is wonderful!!! But you do have to set all the schedules ON the unit itself prior to being able to really manipulate anything beyond temps in the app. Once the schedules are in (and it walks you through on the unit, step by step) the app can do everything. The thermostat "learns" meaning it will learn how long it takes your home to reach a certain temp over time and will adjust to when it cranks up to meet each scheduled temp change. Colors are pretty neat, not overly necessary, but nice. I highly recommend!

Overview: The Honeywell smart thermostat is smart thermostat that can control your heating and air conditioning unit from anywhere (you have internet access) by using the app. The Honeywell app allows you to do things such as turn on/off the heat or AC, setup schedules, increase/decrease temp, etc. This is nice when your coming back from vacation and want the home to be warm or cool by the time you get back. This thermostat is also Amazon Alexa compatible, so you can control with your voice as well. Setup: I found setting up the Honeywell thermostat to be relatively simple. I had previously set up a smart thermostat on my 2nd floor (2 zone system) in the past, so I knew what to expect. I installed this thermostat on the first floor, my setup is a forced hot air, central heating/AC. This was controlled with a basic battery operated thermostat. My setup did not have a common wire, a wire that provides low voltage power, so I had to substitute a wire to be used as a common wire. In my case, I used the green wire, which is normally used for fan which I don't have. It was relatively straightforward, I unscrewed the panel on the heating system, added a jumper wire between the Y and G terminals; on the thermostat end, I inserted what was the G wire into the C terminal. If you're not sure how this is done, check Honeywell's website for step by step videos. Note: Before you do any of this, I would strongly advise you shut off the circuit breaker. I was in a rush to get my thermostat setup and didn't shut off the breaker and ended up spending an extra 30 minutes to figure out the issue. In my case, I must've touched the wires together while putting it through the wall plate. This resulted in the blade fuse blowing on the heating unit circuit board. Once the wiring is in place, simply screw the bracket to the wall and pop in the thermostat. Once the thermostat is installed, I had to find my network name and input the wifi password. Once this was done, the thermostat has to be setup on the Honey total connect website. Using the thermostat MAC ID and CRC number displayed on the thermostat, setting up the thermostat on the website is quick and easy, took me about 10 minutes. Alexa setup: To setup the thermostat on the Alexa, you need to add the "Honeywell Total Connect Comfort" skill. With this skill, you can use your voice to set the temperature: "Alexa, set [thermostat name] to 80 degrees" or ask it what the current temperature is: "Alexa, what is the temperature inside?". Unfortunately you can't turn on/off the system, so if the system is off, you would need your app to turn on. This also works with Google Home, IFTTT and many others (check website for compatibility) but surprisingly, does not work with Apple Homekit. User friendliness: One of this thermostats biggest strengths is its ease of use, it's display is laid out very nicely, you have a good amount of information on the screen in an uncluttered look. Information such as time, indoor/outdoor temperature, indoor/outdoor humidity level (I find this especially useful since I have a forced hot air heating system which are known to be dry) and the temperature it is set to. The amount of information provided here is just the right amount, with a tap on the outdoor temp, it switches to give me a forecast for the day. Compare this to another popular smart (round) thermostat which only displays 1 data point. Setting up the weekly schedule is simple as well, you can do this on the app or at the thermostat. You have the flexibility to set each day differently or group by weekdays and weekends. With each day, you can setup 4 events and temperatures: wake, leave, return and sleep. Fairly simple and straight forward. You can also customize the color display to show different colors, good if you're trying to match the color of the paint on the wall. The model I received for testing is the RTH9585WF; this looks like a refreshed version of the one I've been using, RTH9580WF. The 2 are identical in physical appearance, same size and shape. The wall bracket has a slightly different design and are not compatible. Some other differences I noticed is the dashboard layout. The new one is laid out more symmetrical fashion and doesn't show the date. The display seems to be more accurate as well as far as typing and pressing menu buttons. Conclusion: If you're looking for a mid-level, smart thermostat that is easy to use and more functional than aesthetically pleasing, then this is it! You can always spend more or less on a thermostat with about the same functionality but I find this Honeywell to be a good balance as far as features, functionality and ease of use. The customizable 4.25" screen looks kind of cool too! Pros: - Dashboard is easy to read and provides a great snapshot (indoor/outdoor temp, indoor/outdoor humidity levels, Time, temp settings). - Intuitive to setup and program schedule. This (and the dashboard) is where the Honeywell shines compared to its competitor. - App that is just as intuitive and simple to use. - Ability to customize the color of the LCD screen. Cons: - Design and Construction: the thermostat is constructed out of grey plastic case, it works fine but in my opinion, not as aesthetically pleasing as competitors. - No analytics on heating and AC usage. The other popular thermostat has “energy history” on the app as well as emails letting you know how much energy was used for past weeks. - Does not have geo-fencing technology where it can detect when your cell phone is present and turn to home mode.

If you're looking for a basic thermostat that comes with WiFi and Smartthings integration this is for you. Installation is simple. If you've never installed a thermostat before, just turn off power to the AC/Heater at the fuse box, pull the old one down and transfer the wires from the old to the new , taking care to put them in the same places. Marking them helps a lot! Be advised, you need a C (for "Common") wire to use this. I would advise checking behind your existing thermostat to be sure there is a wire connected to the C terminal on the back. It is needed to power the thermostat and it's wifi connection. The display is nice and big compared to some of the competition. I like that you can set it to different colors to match your decor.

I had wanted a Wifi controllable thermostat for some time, and knowing this Honeywell was compatible with Google Home made me look forward to trying it. It came with ample instructions and labels to help you identify the wiring at your current setup, and was easy to install. Like any Wifi device, it has a MAC address and you register it on Honeywell's network. The Android or iPhone app lets you control it from your smartphone or tablet. You can even use your voice commands with the Android app to check your house or adjust the heat or AC. The thermostat itself has a great assortment of tools and settings--timers, 7-day programming schedules, custom alerts sent to your phone for high and low temps, humidity or loss of wifi connection. The standby brightness and colors are customizable. It can serve as a nice soft night light in your hallway. Adding it to the smart home controls in Google Home was a snap, and it's fun to turn the settings up or down or fan on or off with your voice. And you can always ask Google what the temp is in the house. It picks a weather station near your registration address for the displayed outside temperature, though I imagine most folks into smart home stuff have their own external thermometer. It would be great to be able to match up something like a wifi weather station with this application. The mounting plate has easy-insert connections with no screws for your wires but it is small and kind of hard to manage. Not hard enough to take away from 5 stars though. This was that easy and seems like a great addition to a smart home system. You *can* use it simply as a touch-screen thermostat without the wifi and smart home features, but models like that are available at a lower price.

Very easy to install with hook ups that were basically plug and play. Very Informative with inside temp & Outside temp. Easy to access with a simple to use app that is VERY USER FRIENDLY!!! My Wife is basically computer illiterate and she was able to use it without any assistance. It beats the "Nest" HANDS DOWN!!! It covers up the same spot on my wall that the old unit was in so I didn't have to touch up any paint on the wall however your installation may vary. The display is extremely easy to read with humidity, temp and more all in "TECHNICOLOR" I love the display. If you are looking for a new "SMART THERMOSTAT" you can't beat the new Honeywell. An all around Great unit.

I have to admit, I was a little scared at first, but after watching several videos on the install, it was not bad. The fact that I can link it to my current system, makes my home complete. I have everything wireless, and it now can control the temp in the house too. The screen can be customized to your liking, with different colors and such. Also, it works well I might add, and it was easy to install too. Just remember to turn off your breaker before starting, because you never know if something can go wrong. 4 stars only because I did have to be a little tech savy, but the average person might be a little intimidated to try this. But that is what the Geek Squad is for.

Honeywell Thermostat I’ve wanted to replace my thermostat in my apartment for some time; it is an old round style and is part of the reason I have trust issues as I can set the temp but the approximate readback is usually off by several degrees. So if I am going to go to all the trouble, why not go with a smart thermostat which is why I went with this particular thermostat. I have used Honeywell thermostats in the past and there are smart thermostats from other vendors but I liked the touch screen capabilities of this thermostat. Moreover, the display screen has the ability to have the background color adjusted in preset colors or in a custom color in order to help the thermostat better blend into the wall, which it does. Along the same lines, the thermostat is much smaller than it appears in pictures and one would expect, roughly the size of a wallet further helping it blend into the wall. My only critique is that the screen never fully goes dark, just dims some. I’d prefer it to go dark and awake upon touch. The thermostat has the ability to learn as well as being scheduled. Doing an initial schedule, you have 7 day flexibility as well as four events: awaking, leaving house, returning home, and bedtime. There is a bit of a wizard walk through that helps you if you have routine (work) to copy across multiple days. I personally would have like a little more flexibility in scheduling with more events during the day. It also has the capabilities to be programmed for special events where you know you will want a one-time change of schedule like a holiday party. The apps that are available regardless of your device are fairly easy to use. They are a simplistic view of the thermostat screen but do seem to limit some of the functionality relative to being in front of the thermostat. But that is ok, because what they really allow you to do is change the temperature anytime and anywhere! Forgot to turn down the heat while you go shopping for the day, just pull out your phone! Laying in bed but a bit cold, pull out your phone and just like that you are warmer and more comfortable! This is probably what I like most and use most, adjusting the temperature without having to get up. Installation and set-up are quite easy. The instructions are quite clear and require little handy-man knowledge. You will likely want a pair of pliers to aid in pushing the wires into the receptors. Mine lacked the dedicated “C” wire and so I had to do a bit more work but the instructions for this exact situation are included in the box and are very easy to follow. Once installed, the initial set-up of the thermostat is straight forward and the instructions once again take you step-by-step and is accomplished in a few minutes. The longest part of the process was setting up a free account with Honeywell to register the device as you have to wait for an email from them. Overall, a nice thermostat with great functionality that appears like it will hold up for many years to come. Pros: Easy to use Easy to Set-up Abundance of Features Can use more than one in your home Cons: Screen never goes fully dark

A few years ago our furnace died. When they replaced our old furnace they also replaced my bright and easy to read with one that was much more dim and mildly awkward to use. I have long regretted that I didn’t insist they leave the old thermostat. BUT, I had the opportunity to get this Honeywell Smart WiFi Thermostat and after just a couple of days I am loving it! Installation could hardly have been easier. I’m not even very handy and I had the old thermostat replaced and up and running again in barely 30 minutes. It was as simple as powering off the furnace system, taking a photo of the wiring on the old to make sure which color wires were connected to which terminals, then removing it and putting the new one on in its place making sure to match the wires to the corresponding terminals from the old one. In my case my wire colors and terminal labels matched, but that is not guaranteed to be the case so pay attention to this. The one “gotcha” on the wiring is that for this to thermostat to work it will need a constant power supply and that requires a “C” wire. My old thermostat had a powered (albeit lame) display so I knew I had the C wire, but if you aren’t sure then I recommend you check first. If you don’t have a C wire already then you can either replace the entire run (I’m not that handy) or you can use something like a Venstar Add-a-wire kit which can add a C wire without having to replace the entire run. One way or another though, you’ll need a C wire for this to work. Once installed and powered up, the thermostat walks you through some basic setup to know what kind of system it’s controlling and then, optionally, to connect to your WiFi. For WiFi, the thermostat only sees the older 2.4GHz bands. 2.4GHz WiFi is still very common but if you happen to be more “cutting edge” and have tried to migrate to the less-cluttered 5GHz WiFi band, just know that this device will be one of those 2.4GHz stragglers. It’s a small thing, but in the interest of being modern and flexible I would have expected it to be 5GHz capable. Assuming you setup the WiFi you will need to create and account and register it online. Once you do that then you can easily install the Honeywell app on Android or iOS and then you can monitor, set, and schedule it from your phone. And there’s a straightforward web interface as well if you’re on a computer. One nice thing of having it on my phone is that if I’m feeling a little chilly or hot when sleeping I can just roll over and change it from the comfort of bed -- no more awkward, dark, and sleep disturbing little trips into the hallway. Finally, it has 4 built-in schedule periods that you can customize -- Wake, Leave, Return, and Sleep -- that you can disable entirely or customize to your desires. You can schedule these periods to any time of day, all days, weekdays, weekends, or any mix thereof. It’s pretty intuitive. Our previous thermostat was programmable but it was awkward so we never fully utilized it -- no doubt we missed out on opportunities to save money. This new one is so easy to program and monitor that I’m eager to see how much we save by finally putting an automatic schedule into place.

I am in the beginning stages of creating a smart home environment for my house. I have several pieces to include the Chamberlain MyQ garage opener, Wemo switches and Ecobee 3 thermostat. I planned to use my 4th Gen Apple TV as the hub for it all, but not all options work with Apple. When I had the opportunity to get the Honeywell thermostat, I jumped at the chance because my wife is not really a fan of the Ecobee (she doesn't really know how to use it) My home has a tri-zone heating setup, which means that I have three separate thermostats that control each floor of my home. I currently have an Ecobee 3 Smart Thermostat installed on the main floor and two standard programmable thermostats for the other two floors. When I installed my Ecobee, I knew that eventually I would add at least one more, so I had already made it a point to identify the C wire for the other zones. The C wire is required in order for these smart thermostats to work. It allows constant power to the thermostat without a need for batteries. Installation of the Honeywell was quite simple and took less than 30 minutes. Mainly due to running up and down the stairs to turn the furnace off and install the C wire onto the motherboard of my furnace. The directions were easy to follow and even provides you with instructions on hooking it up if you do not have a C wire. Once I connected all wires and securely mounted the thermostat to the wall, I turned the power back on to the furnace and the Honeywell started right up. It asked me several questions about my HVAC setup and then prompted me to connect to my wifi. After everything was connected, I was instructed to create a profile on their website in order to remotely control the thermostat using my phone or tablet. Again, this was simple and quick. I programmed my heating/cooling schedule right from the thermostat, although you are able to do the same from the website or by downloading the app to your phone or tablet. This thermostat more closely resembles a standard thermostat, unlike my Ecobee 3 and is very simple to program and check the status of your HVAC. You can view the exterior and interior temperatures, as well as the 5 day forecast right on the display. You have the option of changing the background colors on the display to match your décor or desired color. While I like this thermostat, for the price, I would rather have another Ecobee. The Ecobee has built in motion sensors that override your scheduled settings when it notices that someone is home when the schedule is programmed for away settings. The Ecobee also has geo-fencing which is a real nice feature. The Honeywell doesn't work with Apple Homekit, but does work with Alexa and Google Assistant. The only other issue I have with this one is I wish the display would dim out after a certain period of time. This thermostat is installed in my bedroom and there is a constant light emitting from it. This is admittedly a personal preference, but one I felt should be mentioned. Overall, I would recommend this thermostat, but if you want something in the same price range with more advanced features, I would look at the Ecobee or Nest.

This thermostat took a minute to get wired up for me, since all the newer thermostats require a "parasitic" 24v connection to either a new power source or directly to your furnace control board. Once I got that in place I was up and running. I found that I wasn't able to do anything with the thermostat until it was connected to power and I couldn't set up my account ahead of time with the thermostat offline. Getting connected to wifi is a simple task, even if entering a password is somewhat tedious on the touchscreen, which is obviously made to an ideal size to control the termostat and NOT to be used as a tablet. Having replaced an older 7 day programmable thermostat the operation was simple and familiar to set a program and let it run. It was the connection to my account and then eventual connection to Google Assistant that I was looking for. This took a few tries to get both linked, but once I did I had control over my home's temperature from Google Home (super cool) and then I could use the Honeywell Total Home Connect App outside of the home to control the temp when I was away. I dislike that this thermostat goes completely offline when the power goes out, but it does revert to it's previous state (heating or cooling) and is able to reconnect to the internet after a power loss, unlike early versions of the Nest. Overall this is a somewhat simplified connected thermostat that works well, without any of the advanced modes like learning your schedule, but did provide me with off-site control and worked well.

Works well with my 2002 HVAC system. Only difference this thermostat requires a previously unused C Wire, which powers the Honeywell. I like how you can incorporate this thermostat into your existing Google home atmosphere easily. It's so nice to adjust the room temperature without having to get up. This is much smaller than my older programmable thermostat this replaced, and the color display looks nice. This also will show you the weekly forecast weather and temps. You can also control this via the Honeywell app if you don't have Google assistant or Amazon Alexa. I've now been using this for 3 years without any issues or problems, while the cost is still on the high side for this thermostat. I do prefer it over other brands offering smart thermostat options on the market. The only issue you may have when installing this onto a older system is if your HVAC doesn't have a C wire. Which can easily be remedied by simply running one inside your wall. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a smart thermostat.

This thermostat is wonderful. Set up was a breeze. Caution - make sure you have a C wire - or are more electrically advanced than me. There are tons of videos from Honeywell to help you with installation if you have any doubts. It was super easy to install and program. The app is great, works like a charm. The display is really nice and easy to use. I would recommend this to anyone who is into gadgets and likes the idea of being able to remotely control their thermostat. So cool! No cons to speak of, so far it's a great gadget to keep my home warm.
