This is a nice unit, I have used two for 6 years (Aug 2018). My only complaint would be the 2am color reversal to keep the screen from burning. My solve is to hang a black golf hat over the termostat in my bedroom. Otherwise, the functionality, internet connectivity and application interaction work great. Alexa can control changing the temperature for either floor of my house. Yes, you need the c-wire. Most modern HVAC systems have them.

The Honeywell Smart Color Thermostat with Wi-Fi was a nice upgrade from my 20 yr old programmable thermostat (the kind with the liquid crystal display that lets you set weekday and weekend schedules). I have only 2 "cons" with this device. The first is with the person who installed my previous thermostat wire--so that is not Honeywell's fault. I only had a 4-wire thermostat wire. I was prepared to replace it with 5-wire as the existing wire is exposed through my basement all the way up until the last 4' before the thermostat where it is in the wall and apparently stapled to a stud a million times. Fortunately Honeywell has VERY GOOD instructions with online videos telling you how to make a 4-wire thermostat wire work with this device. Installation was easy. ADVICE: PULL YOUR OLD THERMOSTAT OFF THE WALL FIRST AND SEE WHAT KIND OF WIRING YOU HAVE BEFORE PURCHASING. ALSO, CHECK YOUR SYSTEM TO MAKE SURE IT IS COMPATIBLE. I suppose since all the programming is controlled via the web, power loss won't affect the controls. (I tested this by killing power to the furnace. When power was restored, the thermostat rebooted with all the settings I expected.) However, when the power is out you won't know the temperature of your home. The display goes dark. Daily program options break down to 4 different times of day: WAKE, LEAVE, RETURN, SLEEP. You can customize each day of the week either via the thermostat, the web interface, or a phone app. Setting up those schedules is very easy. Times are broken into 15 minute increments. The thermostat has the typical TEMP HOLD options (until "next program" kicks in or "indefinitely") and a VACATION option. All of these can be done at the thermostat or via app. You can pick from a number of color screens to help match your display to your wall color if you want. You can also adjust the brightness of the screen. All-in-all I am very pleased with this unit. It will be nice to be able to adjust temps at home whenever we are away from the house for extended periods of time. It would be super cool if the thermostat could automatically detect when someone is in the house (or on the way home) but until that day comes, Honeywell gives you all the necessary controls at your fingertips to monitor and schedule your heating/cooling remotely by phone or computer.

First off the screens and menu system is great. Easy to programme and operate. But, you need that C wire or it will not power up. Looked at ways to jump or provide aux power to it but it only worked on the work bench with a common 24 VAC power source, exactly as explained in the directions. I can NOT pull a wire through even though I have a terminal on the furnace. (no a.c. as that is mini split, separate from the furnace.) We wanted to make sure the thermostat was function properly, which it does and very well. But, you must have the C wire to power it. If you have W and R only, you can not use this unit. We tried several configurations to make sure it was getting power and it did not power up with out that source, which you will not have with the two wire heat only. The only disappointment is that the unit, like most, does not have an anticipator adjustment. If you remember the old "The Round" mercury switch units which functions best at .2 to .4. The higher the number, the longer the cycle time. Plus the nature of the unit dial makes it widely variable. Just because the unit is electronic doesn't mean there shouldn't be a "fine tune" mode for cycle time and temperature swing but really, that's nit picking. The unit works well in our lab but then there's that pesky C wire. Bottom line: Yes, recommended, contingent to long life operation and accuracy. Two things we couldn't test for. Life is subjective, accuracy was not measured in the lab so we can not say one way or the other. What we can say is that we love the different colours and touch screen.

This is my first smart thermostat and I am very pleased with it. Despite the many available settings, set up is very simple and clear. You can set your schedule to be as complicated or simple as you want with the ability to set individual days and times for each day. Or you can set all the days at once. The thermostat includes the ability to change the background color to match your wall, which I thought was a nice touch. There are several preset colors or you can create a custom color. One minor annoyance about the display is that there is an icon directly behind the main temp display that I find distracting. Initial setup was easy and the directions are clear and concise. Upon first power up the thermostat walked through setting up the wifi connection and some initial settings like time/date etc. The hardest part was connecting the thermostat to the furnace. In my case I had to run a new 18-5 wire from the thermostat to the furnace. But again, the directions are clear and easy to follow for any type of furnace. Anyone with basic handyman skills will be able to install the thermostat on a furnace that supports it. Overall I am extremely satisfied with this thermostat.

This thermostat is pretty well featured. It allows you to customize the backgrounds, set up schedules, and even control it with your Amazon Echo. The only issue I seem to keep having, is that the Network Connection seems to drop randomly. The previous Lyric's I had installed did the same thing, and this one is no different. I'm running an eero Mesh network, and this is the only device that constantly drops offline. Aside from that, the installation is pretty straight forward. I'd recommend taking a picture of the current wiring of your thermostat, make sure you have a common wire. You'll simply remove the old thermostat, and install this new one. The setup was easy and I was able to get Alexa controlling it in a few minutes once it came online. This is a great thermostat for those who want an easy to control thermostat that understands your schedule. However, the features of the Nest are a bit more refined, and I ended up uninstalling this one after the frustration of the offline issues after a few days. I ended up installing it at my parents house. They use a standard modem router combo, which is nearby, and they haven't experienced the same network issues I did. Your results may vary.

Easy to install and user friendly. Only issue I’m having is that indoor temp is off by 3 degrees. I had to use the offset Temp function to try and match the actual temp. Don’t know if an update might be need it. Honeywell if you read this review feedback would be greatly appreciated

+Good design +Mostly easy to use and intuitive interface +Modest improvement in my heating bill -Terrible app design -Screen is always lit up After running a 5-wire thermostat wire and using this thermostat for a couple of months, compared to my old, "dumb" programmable thermostat, I've noticed some modestly appreciable savings in my electric/heating bill. While the interface is mostly easy to use and intuitive, I don't think this thermostat lives in the same category as some of the main competition. One thing to note up front is that this thermostat requires a C wire to operate. While you can jump a couple wire terminals to get this to work with a 4 wire setup, you lose ability to run your fan without having the AC/heat going. It's nice that they give this option (along with directions on how to do it and even a jumper wire), I opted to run a 5 wire line to replace my older 4 wire. First, the positive. As mentioned, the interface is mostly easy to use. The main screen presents all the main information in a well laid out manner, and having the outdoor weather presented on the screen is a huge plus. Setting up a schedule is easy, and while switching the temp is a two step process, that too is easily done. Not only is the interface good, the unit itself has a great aesthetic to it. Finally, the unit seems to have helped in lowering my heating bill, even if only by a little. Comparing December of this year to last, the amount of "therms" consumed at my house dropped from 111 to 104 (both months had an average temperature of 28 degrees, so usage should be directly comparable). While that's not a giant savings, every little bit helps. Now, the not so good. The app, quite frankly, is down right hideous. The aesthetic, at least on Android, looks like it was designed 10 years ago. All the functionality I want is there, which is great, but the look kills it for me. Another complaint about the unit is that the display stays lit all the time. As far as I could tell, there's no way to change this. Finally, while Honeywell lists this as a "learning" thermostat, I found that it's completely reliant on how you setup your schedule. Changing temperatures outside said schedule doesn't seem to have a broader impact on operation. This is in contrast to a Nest, for instance, which adapts its schedule based on how you tweak the temperature over time. Overall, this is a decent thermostat, but for the price, I'd probably look elsewhere for one with more "smarts."

Installation is very simple. Documentation is very clear in printed format and video. If you face any issues, there is a toll free number to reach out for support. This thermostat has lot of great features. It will show outside temperature based on zip code and controls to adjust room temperature. The numbers are very bold and bright to see it from long distance. The cool feature is you can adjust background colors to match themes and wall colors. Android and iOS apps are very easy to navigate. Registration is required with email and you can monitor and change temperature remotely. It is working great with Amazon Echo and Google Home. I have tested the voice controls to adjust temperature and it worked flawlessly. Honeywell is champion in building Smart Thermostats. This model RTH9585WF Honeywell - Smart Color Thermostat with Wi-Fi Connectivity is another great Smart Thermostat from them.

Was a first time purchase for a WiFi thermostat at home. Unit had world class name so we tried it. It is easy to use and install with large numbers to read also! Very happy! Would purchase agsin!!

Simple design and sleek. Feel like the other new modern thermostats are gimmicky and cheap looking. You can’t go wrong with Honeywell and its long standing history.

Really good thermostat. I like that you can program it by times and temp. One thing that is very important though, is you have to make sure that you have a "C" wire as it provides power to the device. My home was so old it didn't have one, neither the alternative wires (it comes with instructions in case you have other wires you can re purpose as a "C" wire). So I had to bring an AC/Heath tech to my home to add an additional 24v transformer and wire me a "C" wire to make the thermostat work. So double check this first! The screen isn't as responsive as I would like it to be, however I was able to make it work, it just requires some more pressure than, say a phone touch screen. Setup was easy and it paired with my wifi just fine. Other than that I'm loving that I can program different temps by the hour and I can also monitor it from work (I have pets at home so I'm always trying to keep a good temp at home while saving some power while I'm at work). I hope it saves me some money, now that I'm not having my heater work all the time (its already cold here so next year will see about ac). I recommend this to anyone looking forward having an intelligent home, its a must!!

This WiFi thermostat is unique and definetly all you need to control your AC/ Heat inside your house. The installation and set up was done whinin 15-30 minutes,( a quick recommendation: if you do not have a C wire in your house ac/ Heater, you won’t be able to use this thermostat). The great nice digital display with changing colors is nice and the app for your phone is really helpful to control your temperature from the palm of your hands without even been at home. The temperatures where I live have been nice so I haven’t been able to test for a long period of time but I tested both cool and heater and works great. Make sure you have a good WiFi connection throught your house for a outstanding experience with this thermostat with WiFi, also works good with Alexa/ google commands.

First thing first, this isn’t a product you need... it’s a product you want since my old thermometer had all the same features besides the nice screen and WiFi. Other then that it’s your typical thermostat, by that I mean you can control the tempurure and change when your fan comes on. It’s nice to be away from your home and turn off your AC or turn on your heater so when you get home it’s nice and warm. The screen is beutiauful and makes my plane white wall look nice and fancy. The screen is easy to use and works great! You can change what theme color you want, and you can also look up the weather for ur area. Overall I like my new touch screen WiFi thermostat. I received this thermostat and replaced my Nest. I love the big screen on this and the fact you can change the color of the screen to match your walls which helps it blend in so well. I love the fact that it shows you everything on the screen such as humidity, and outside temp. With my nest you had to scroll through screens. The energy savings does not appear to be any different but neither did my Nest from a standard build thermostat. I also should mention I don't use the schedule since people are home at all times of the day. The app is also a little better than Nest in my opinion as it has all the info you need on the main page and easy to adjust your settings. Love this thing and it makes my wall look so technical and modern.

Product itself works great! Syncs up with the app and wi-fi so I'm able to monitor remotely. The unit I connected to was a little old and did not have the "C-wire" required for remote operation. Because of that I could not utilize the free install with my Pro account so had to get a local AC company to do the install.

Setup was a breeze. Took about 20 minutes. Just follow directions in the manual and on the screen. It has everything you could possibly want. There are videos to watch if you have questions. It has a touchscreen. It displays the outside temperature (I assume from the internet), as well as the indoor temperature. It tells you the indoor humidity. It even tells you when you should change your furnace filter. It works with most smart hubs to conenct to Alexa or Google Assistant. It has voice control with the app...not sure why you would need that with Alexa. It even has a custom color display to match your decor. The reason I wanted this particular one is because it is a product of Honeywell.

I was provided a free unit in exchange for an unbiased review. The Honeywell Smart Color Thermostat should be a reasonable replacement for your current thermostat. I say "should be" because I didn't realize that a "C" wire (or gas heating wire) is required to actually power the thermostat in order to make it work. This thermostat is not like a very well-known competitor that may use lithium-ion batteries to make theirs work. You either have to have a "C" wire (which essentially is a power-only wire) or you have to use a gas heating wire (if you have a gas furnace). This thermostat does not run on batteries. The downside to using a gas heating wire is that in using it you lose certain fan functionality at the thermostat level (e.g.: fan on or auto). If you're comfortable configuring wiring like so, then this thermostat is for you. It's relatively easy to tell ahead of time if your current thermostat setup can handle the power requirements. Simply remove the front of your current thermostat (or equivalent device removal) to where you can see the current feed of wires to various letters. If you have a "C" wire that is directly connected to your current thermostat, then you have no issues. If you don't, then the included guide will ask you if the "C" wire is otherwise in existence but not being used (or back inside your wall). Then you have to trace this wire back to the heating/cooling unit to confirm, otherwise you risk shorting the system. I'd definitely recommend the Honeywell Smart Color Thermostat if you're at least reasonably comfortable working with wires. You don't have to be an electrician to make things work, but being somewhat handy is definitely helpful.
