Great for remote controlling my home

Honeywell has always built solid systems from Cooling and Heating, and now to the wireless thermostats. It works well with the app and we are able to control our home temperatures remotes when we expect to have guests or needing to keep a warmer home for our pets when we are on the road. The setup is quite simple and the unit itself has help features to guide you with the setup. This thermostat works great with any systems. Definitely worth a peek and investment. PS. It does integrate with Alexa.

Yes it works, but pretty lame.

I bought 2 of these units, and they are small with a nice display. I had them professionally installed as I was having other work done... SUPER disappointing: (1) When I went to connect the wifi (hours after the HVAC tech left) I was required to use a PC and create an account with Honeywell. I would never have bought these if I knew this was the case. They require full name and address (so I made something up). The app won't even work until you get a verification code after providing all your personal information on a PC/website that has nothing to do with the device(s) you purchased or the app. (2) The second lame thing is the app itself. It is really budget. I was able to get it working, but it is really clunky. Bottom line is these work and I can (barely) accomplish what I wanted with my phone and control the units. The experience and app interface would sway me away from Honeywell products for other things like security panel etc., which I was honestly considering.

It works. But the whole point of me buying it was so that I could get it to work with my Ring app. I’m just glad it works with my Alexa.

Thermostat is average but app is memeroy hunger and childish. The app requires a newer phone runnning at least 64GB of rom and 3 GB of ram. 2.5Mhz only. ANything less and it may not run if you have other apps. I ws ableto get my wifes Pixil to owrk with the app and that is when I noticed how childish and "cutisy" the app is COme on Honeywell Icons for sleep,..? Only kids and childish girls need that rubbish. Themrostat is fine but the app makes me want to take it back BUT you cnanot return it once the box has been opened. Had I known the app was childish I would bought it. Hate using it.

Just a warning...you must have a C wire to use this thermostat! My house does not. I had to find someone to let give this to in order to test it. They really love it and say it works great. But I am still mad I couldn't use it!

It is a good thermostat and you can buy it cheaper on Walmart Web site, Best buy will not match the price because it's sold by Third Party on Walmart.

    Yikes

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Installing this thermostat was easy enough. My house is relatively new so I already had the C wire needed. Setup was easy as well. I have a heat pump with backup heating. Once installed, I selected heat mode and set it to 68 degrees. Aux heat came on, even though I had it set to heat not emergency heat. And cold air was coming out of the vents. I turned the unit off, waited a few minutes and turned it back on. Set it to heat again and changed it to 69 degrees. Finally the heat came on. I thought it was working. The next day, the same thing kept happening again. I'd set it to heat but it would switch over to aux heat and the temp in my house went from 68 degrees to 63 degrees. Obviously I don't want aux heat running all the time because my electric bill will be astronomical. Plus it was getting colder in my house instead of heating my house. It shouldn't cut on the auxiliary heat unless you manually turn it to the emergency heat setting. I put my manual thermostat back and returned this one.

Convenient Connected Device, Difficult to Install

The thermostat itself is great. It is controllable by an app that you download on your phone. It is also compatible with Google Home which is really handy. Our home has a dual zone heat pump which made the installation of the device much more difficult and we had to hire a pro HVAC man to come and put it in for us so if that is your set up as well, plan on some extra expense to get this device going. If you have just a standard HVAC system you can install it yourself probably. There are some good install videos on the company's website.

    Ambient temp is erratic

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Ambient temp will jump down 2 degrees randomly when cooling (Haven't tried heating yet). I bought two of them and it does it on BOTH! So if the upstairs therm is at 78 it pops down to 76 randomly (then back up to 78). If I lower it to 77 is pops down to 75 randomly (then back up to 77). I put my old battery-operated Honeywell next to one of the new therms and it's solid as a rock for ambient reading. I actually called Honeywell and they gave me the lame old "reboot it" solution (which works for a while actually). But it seems to de-stabilize over time until factory reset - like it has a memory-leak in the coding. With a thoughtful update I think this could probably be fixed and be a really nice thermostat.

    Dissapointed

Disappointed....I purchased a RTH9580WF Thermostat in April of 2017 at Best Buy with a (2) two year protection plan. Within the first 90 days the unit began to exhibit a problem with the display and would arbitrarily change the color scheme. It is simple to restore to the programmed scheme and after reading reviews others were also complaining of the same issue. I did not find it that big of a deal so chose not to return/exchange. This last week I received an error message that WIfi connection was lost. Reset my router and attempted to re-coonect with no luck. I called Geek Squad (Best Buy) who had no insight whatsoever and told me to return to store. I then called Honeywell, was transferred (3) times and finally reached a Representative in a foreign country. I could barely understand the representative. The Representative told me the problem was with my Internet Provider. I have zero Internet issues, the highest download speeds (210 mbps) and in home 185 Wi-Fi. I was told to reset all of my router settings, change ports, etc., etc. Keep in mind the unit had been Wi-Fi connected for months without a glitch. Nothing was resolved so I removed the unit, drove 40 miles to my nearest BB and exchanged the unit. As the 9580wh was no longer available I was provided a 9585wf. I saw no physical change other than a modified menu and terrible color theme collection. Installed, programmed to my schedule and all was fine. Woke at 5 am the following day (today) to a house at 55 degrees (outside temp was 35 degrees. Tried a full reset with zero response. Checked everything, re-programmed and nothing. Removed the unit and installed my original thermostat that came with the home and had instant heat. I am now forced to drive another 40 miles one way and try to get a second replacement. I was extremely happy with the 9850WF even with the color scheme issues. I am hopeful BB will allow me to downgrade to a Lyric as the 9585WF was bad out of the box and the color schemes are bland at best. A bad experience. I rarely if ever write reviews but I felt this issue needed addressing. I am now stuck with a replacement that doesn't work, looks terrible with my decor and stuck with a $200.00 thermostat I would never have purchased based on it's current options. Very sorry to have to write a negative review about Honeywell that I have always promoted to my family and friends and have been a loyal customer......I want to clarify this is not a Best Buy issue. There support was excellent in the exchange process/warranty resolve.

    Worst experience resolving installation issues

I encountered some challenges with this purchase that I believe could be improved upon. Throughout the process, communication was not as effective as I had hoped, particularly regarding the installation schedule. Unfortunately, the installers did not arrive as planned, and despite reassurances from customer service representatives, it became clear there was some uncertainty around the involvement of the third-party installers. It might be beneficial for the company to enhance the communication and coordination with these contractors to ensure a smoother experience for customers in the future. Addressing these underlying issues with the 3rd party contractors (Install Inc.) could greatly improve the overall service and customer satisfaction. Stay away from planning installs

We have had this thermostat for two years then one day we woke up and it said the WiFi no longer worked on the screen. My husband called and a representative reported that we would have to buy another one...that the WiFi went and there was nothing they could do! So unless you plan on buying another one in two years I don’t recommend.

What was Honeywell thinking? The design is wanting at best, fake silver and plastic with no option to change the face plate. The feature set is top notch, but the install is defiantly not for the DIY. It requires a 5th wire for power, unfortunately my home was built in 1997 and did not have one. So 2 choices: disable manually controlling the fan, or rewire the HVAC. To me neither was an option. After some research I was able to purchase an add on PEK to add the 5th wire, but it had to be wired in at the furnace. I would guess most homes are older than mine and lack that 5th wire. In this premium smart thermostat space It should be made of metal or glass, include additional room sensors and the PEK in the box. The big names in smart thermostats are similarly priced and offer a lot more simplicity, design, and function. Honeywell has one of the biggest/ most renown names in HVAC and should take care to preserve their reputation by not churning out half baked products.
