Good enough, not great.
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's fairly fiddly compared to the Nest. Works well enough, but not as easy or as seamless

It's not clear it works with a "heat-only" furnace
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have an old furnace and the instructions eventually sent me to their [never-answering] help #. Twice I waited close to an hour with nothing but repetitions of "your call is ..." I finally got hungry and hung up. I'm returning the product. Technically I like the stronger signal from the remotes. I may re-investigate later. But don't expect any help from Honeywell

Love the thermostat
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this because it was a cyber Monday deal for $100. I bought this for the wireless sensor so I could keep it in my master bedroom since its the warmest room in my house and so far I love it and have no complaints.

||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this device in March 2021 and it is now 2023 and it does not work. I have had technicians come out and screen is black and I can not turn on my heat in my house. It gets fixed then happens all over again at this point I would stay away from the brand

Second time Defective Product
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the 4th T9 my family has purchased. This is the second defective one. Not sure I'd go this route again. Keeps blowing the fuse on my furnace. It is maddening to try to get it returned to Best Buy.

Not Worth It
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have yet to install it. The cost of someone coming out from Best Buy is prohibitive. The tech support program has changed several times since purchase. I don't know that we'll ever get it installed.

Solid smart thermostat, best for multizone systems
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Honeywell has been in the thermostat game forever. I had a lot of experience with their analog, digital, wi-Fi thermostats. This is the first Smart home thermostat from them I have used. Overall, it's fairly simple and straightforward to use. It Includes one additional sensor never believe the price point it Is fair. Setup: although this device was set up in an older house, I have a newer HVAC system. Therefore, set up was a breeze. I simply removed my own thermostat and properly reconnected the wires. Generally speaking it should not be that hard to install this thermostat in most homes. From unboxing to install and additional sensor pairing the completion time shouldn't really be more than 30 to 45 minutes. I believe that average users with some technical know-how shouldn't have any problem getting this set up and running themselves. Function: the thermostat has a clean and simple look. At the end of the day this is a thermostat at its core so it's hard to write and extensive review on many details. If you're concerned about some users in your house that can have difficulty with technology, I didn't have too much trouble teaching those in my household how to at least set their preferred temperatures. Once I get used to just the basic use, which I believe is fairly simple it shouldn't take long to help teach them how to use the more in-depth commands. For most people it will be simple to use and really fun want to get the hang of it. Smart function: the key concept behind this system is for the thermostat to understand your habits and when you're in the home or out. The additional sensor what you can place in a strategic location to help maximize temperature control is really the reason why I wanted this device. It only includes one, but you can purchase more. A lot of these smart devices tell increased efficiency and money savings but I'm not sure that the smart function can really translate into significant savings. However, I believe it's more important that I can lead to increased comfort in the home without extra cost. The idea here is to provide zones of prioritization depending on where you are in your home. So during the daytime you may be using more common areas and you can prioritize those sensors versus at night when you can prioritize your bedroom sensors. This function seemed to work excellent and will be very useful during the summer months. App: for this thermostat you use Honeywell home instead of total connect comfort which you use on older Wi-Fi thermostats from Honeywell. The app is cleaner and allows you to handle multiple Honeywell devices all-in-one. This device works with Alexa and Google voice. Home kit is coming at a later time. Overall the app is basically like using the thermostat itself and a simple and straightforward to use. I did not experience the app crashing but it did lag at times. All in all if you're in the market for a smart thermostat, I would definitely consider this one. Honeywell has been in the thermostat game for a long time and there are a lot of competitors in the smart thermostat area. I have been very happy with the Honeywell thermostats in the past and I'm glad that this is my first smart thermostat. The price point seems to be fair and if you can catch it on sale it will be a steal. It's important to know that many cities and electric companies offer rebates for Smart thermostats which is very useful to bring down the cost.

A worthy contender
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Over the last few years I've tried a number of smart thermostats having received them for nearly nothing through various rebate programs with my power company, each seems to have their strengths and weaknesses and the Honeywell T9 is no different in that respect although it definitely builds on the capabilities of some of the previous Honeywell Smart thermostats. To start, it is packaged in a classic red and white Honeywell colored box which is to be expected. Opening it involves sliding off the white sleeve and opening the red box after which you're presented with the thermostat itself. The overall layout of the packaging and included items are incredibly reminiscent of the Ecobee 3 and Ecobee 4 thermostats, which is to say it includes the thermostat itself (of course) the mounting bracket and wire harness as well as an added battery pack in case your home does not have a 'C' wire (which by the way, either the battery or the C wire is required to use this as with most smart thermostats). Finally, it has the remote room sensor. Installing it was a relative breeze, particularly as I've installed a number of other smart thermostats over the last couple of years. I had no issues getting it to function or with setting up the app. Following the on screen prompts is straightforward and concise. One thing I did notice about this thermostat is it does not have a built in battery backup like the competition (Nest) does which I've found can lend to a more stable experience, particularly if for some reason the system loses power you dont have to wait for the thermostat to boot back up. The look of the installation is clean, I particularly like the white-on-white as white appears to be the new 'stainless' in a lot of home gadgets and appliances, so you shouldn't have any issues with this clashing with your decor. The added room sensor as previously mentioned is nice, particularly in a house like mine where the thermostat itself is not very centrally located so having the sensor in a more heavily traveled area of the house really lends to a more balanced feel to the house. All in all I am fairly impressed with this latest offering from Honeywell, it's worth considering when comparing options between the smart thermostat brands and one that I will likely stick with for some time.

Smart temp control, user friendly, intuitive
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was skeptical at first about smart thermostats but this Honeywell thermostat has changed my mind and made me a believer! It is very easy to install once you determine compatibility of your current system and the model or type of AC unit you have. Just a couple of screw mounting changes, wire labeling which are included, and presto, you are ready for the install. Just make sure you know whether you have a conventional forced air unit or one with a heater pump. I made the mistake of thinking I had a forced air system and the thermostat would activate the system but would nit cool. Come to find out that i had a heat pump system and needed to input that during the setup. Once all was correct and setup the thermostat did its job. It has a very nice display with a touchscreen menu that is very simple to use and understand. It displays the current temp inside outside of the house, to include the humidty inside. You are able to control the settings from the thermostat itself, a smart phone or tablet via the Honeywell Homw app which is great, and also via Alexa or Google Home which is awesome. It includes a smart room sensor which is basically an extension of the thermostat home base. You mount the sensor in any desired room about 5 ft high away from windows and vents with the included doublesided tape or screw mount. I used 3M tape that I had because the tape provided was not strong enough. Once placed in a seperate room, a simple push of a button and you follow the step by step instructions on the thermostat to connect. Once connected, it immediately provides the temperature of that room and if there is motion in the room. This is a great add-on because the sensor paired with the thermostat will help keep the entire house at a comfortable temp. It can be set to make the house an average temperature of the sensor and thermostat reading or can be set to cool or heat to the room sensor. Since I've installed this thermostat, my house feels more comfortable at a higher temp than i usually kept it at with the older thermostat. There is less changing of the temp to cool or heat indiviadual parts of the house that are occupied and my system seems to be working less. I have yet to receive a utility bill to judge the difference in usuage but I'm sure it will help lower my utllity bill.

HIGHLY Recommended Thermostat, OVERPRICED Upgrades
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.INITIAL THOUGHTS: Honeywell (technically Resideo, which is owned by Honeywell) has done an excellent job with the packaging – simple design, easy to open, and no plastic (other than the shrink-wrap surrounding the box, and a small protective cover over the touch-screen display). I’m really pleased with the environmentally-friendly packaging. Included in the packaging is the thermostat, the room sensor (along with cheap batteries, which I’d highly suggest replacing with quality batteries, such as Duracell), a C-wire adapter (this is an optional installation, for those who might need it, with instructions included), as well as simple-to-follow instructions INSTALLATION: Installation is fairly simple, as long as you know what you’re doing, or are good at following detailed instructions. If you fall into these two categories, self-installing should be simple enough, and take less than an hour (including removal of the old thermostat)…but, if either of these two doesn’t fit you, save yourself some trouble, and hire a professional. I’m NOT saying this because I want you to spend money, but because I want to save you money – if you try installing yourself, screw up, and then have to hire a professional, their job will take longer (undoing the “problem(s)” you caused, thus costing you more money). Instructions are broken into three primary sections: 1) Removing old thermostat (page 4), 2) Installing new thermostat (page 10), and 3) Setup & programming (I’ll cover this problem shortly). Other than the “problem”, everything should go smoothly. SETUP: Technically, setting up the T9 isn’t all that difficult…once you have the information needed to actually set it up…and, that’s where the problems start. Unlike competing products, which include setup information in the manual, Honeywell/Resideo has completely failed to include an y of this information. Yes, there is a tiny icon, along with almost microscopic print, informing you of the required app (called “Honeywell Home”), and it does inform purchasers that it’s available through the Apple App Store, and Google Play, but that’s it. Inside the manual, it’s even less helpful, as there is no information regarding setup procedures – no QR codes for downloading/installing the app, no mention of needing an app, absolutely nothing whatsoever related to anything having to do with setting up the unit. At this point, I will tell you that the app you will need is “Honeywell Home” (the box does mention this (back, lower-left corner), but the print is small enough that some might find it difficult to read). On the plus side, if you go to the support website (www.honeywellhome.com/support), you will find useful information. Unfortunately, compared to their other products, the information to the T9 is very limited (at least as of my typing this review). In time, I expect they will add additional T9-specific information, but, for right now, it’s sorely lacking. That being said, once you have the T9 installed, and the unit properly setup & configured to your liking, you will love it. The packaging includes only one sensor…but it’s capable of handling as many as 20 sensors. In addition to sensing temperature, they also measure humidity, and have built-in motion detectors, so that the thermostat knows which rooms are occupied (assuming you have at least one sensor in each room). Between the smart sensors, and the app, you have more programming options that I can explain in this short review. Another HUGE “plus” is being able to install multiple sensors in the same room…say, one closer to the floor, and another closer to the ceiling…which helps the thermostat to more accurately “see” a rooms true temperature (other thermostats only measure the temperature at the thermostat, itself). CONCLUSION: Honeywell is a well-known (no pun intended) name in the HVAC thermostat market, and they’ve been around for quite a long time (1906, if you must ask). While they’re a latecomer to the smart thermostat market, and even though the manual is missing extremely important information, this does not detract from the quality of the product, nor its usability (again, once properly set up & configured/programmed). As great as competing products are (including the Nest), I would probably recommend the Honeywell T9 over almost any competitor. The smart sensors are another reason why the T9 (as well as the professionally-installed T10) stands out above competitors’ products. However, now comes the “bad” news – the cost. While the T9 is priced within the same price range as its competitors ($200), the sensors are where Honeywell gets you - $80 for each package of two additional sensors. If you have five rooms that you want to install sensors in, going with my “high-low” example, you’d need 5 packages, costing you an additional $400, thus, your total cash outlay would become $600. While the product, itself, deserves a 5-star rating, I am forced to “downgrade” that to 3.5 stars (which I’ve “upgraded” to a 4-star rating, only because I can’t rate in half-star ratings) – a 0.5-star deduction for the poorly written manual, and a 1-star deduction for the overpriced sensors. That being said, I’d still recommend the Honeywell T9…at least, for those who can afford it and/or are willing to pay the outrageously-priced cost of additional sensors. On the other hand, if this is out of your price-range, there are several other highly-qualified, and highly-recommended, products. Disclaimer: This product was provided free, or at reduced cost, for the purpose of reviewing the product. Nevertheless, the above review, be it positive, negative, or anywhere in-between, is a 100% honest review, and the price paid played absolutely no part in my review.
