What a mistake!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lots of problems. Have been trying to get all the restrictive, memory-using, and non-privacy "features" off for five days now...had to remove apps for amazon, ebay, booking, google, bing, etc etc etc...hook up Classic Start....I've spent two days just trying to connect the printer, and it's still not hooked up. I picked this model because it has a built-in, not separate, CD drive--I was shocked to find those practically impossible to locate. Are tech designers considering customer needs at all these days? Not everything is apps and streaming. Windows now wants me to sign in separately to do everything. I've had to take off so many "password protected" things ("Sign in with your Microsoft account!") that it's taken hours for that alone.... Have never heard of a laptop where, whenever you try to do something new (download, print, install a program, etc.), it either wants you to download an app from the store or use a password before it will let you. The latest: Cannot get into my bank acct. Says "get app" on my log-in page. Well, I do not want to sign in (again, with a third party) at the corporate store and get an app just to log in to my personal bank acct. Couldn't even get an error msg at the bank site --just goes round and round like it's loading till I give up. Just tried again. Still says get app. You mean, I have to go through a third party to get to my own bank acct? Will not recognize wireless printer. Had to download app, which meant signing into the store again, but there was no software online. (It was there, but said "you cannot use this (software link) with your computer.") Nothing is easy with this laptop, but it's not HP, it's Windows adding extra steps everywhere. Got that app, but printer still would not install all last night. Today I woke up, and the site said it's installed now. But when I try to print, it says no printer connected! Right out of the box, trying to set it up, got message "You have tried to sign in with wrong information too many times. This acct is locked." The security (except for commercial data collection) is ridiculous! For the first couple of days, I could not download programs (such as a CD burner) that I always use..It said "Not taking control messages at this time." Had to research it and finally found the problem online with 10-12 steps to follow -- turns out "trusted installer" was listed as the owner/user, It was not recognizing my right to use my own C drive--one message said "The administrator has not given you permission." Had to change it from "private" to "public" computer to do that. Windows 10 now comes set up so that your heartbeat, speaking patterns, touch, camera, mike, emails, pictures and documents are by default "on" for any site that wants to use them. So if you buy a Windows 10 laptop, be sure you go into the net and find out how to turn all the non-privacy features off. Practically every program and everything a person wants to do on the net is default "password protected" now. Cannot use or do anything new unless you sign in first (preferrably with your "microsoft acct") until you find all those boxes for "password protected" and uncheck them. Problems so far: privacy defaults, printer not recognized, sign-ins, passwords required, apps required, and bank site snafus ... . and the inability to recognize and get into my own hard drive, All Windows problems. Otherwise, it seems to be okay. I did have to check the box by "download with metered connection," although that uses up my bandwidth, because the printer would not work and I was hoping that would help connect it. So far, no dice. The tech giants seem to care more about data collection than a clean, efficient, and fast personal laptop these days. The home user is "protected" like their personal computer is Ft. Knox, but the end result is so user-unfriendly and lag-ridden, that it's all a big pain. May have to return it. (About to give up on printer. Third night and will not connect even with the app, when my old one picked up the wireless printer and started immediately.)
