    Too Hot

An i3 is plenty fast for my usage. When new the first problems were not so bad. The Bang & Olufsen sound system was junk. Why any company would put their name on these speakers is crazy. That mostly doesn't matter to me because I use either headphones or an external speaker. Still, the sound wasn't great nor was it loud. Secondly, the screen is not bright at all. It is crisp with excellent colors. It just isn't bright enough. The reason I kept is was that it is always used indoors without bright light from windows to interfere with the screen. I love Chrome OS. This is my second Chromebook. My first one was cheap and I loved it for six years. The touch screen was really poor but the computer was very fast relatively speaking. This time I upgraded for a better screen and faster chip. I loved it. It was great for the first three months. Then it began throttling itself and overheating. It wasn't being used any differently from day one. The SSD has plenty of free space. So that isn't the problem. Still the thing gets hot. It takes a few hours of running before the overheating begins. It shouldn't happen at all. The room it is in has air purification happening all of the time. There is no dust buildup in this room and it is always kept on a laptop holder which gives plenty of air space beneath the machine for clear ventilation. I intend to contact HP and start some kind of claim. I have no idea how it will turn out. In 2013 HP gave me great support and easily accepted a returned faulty desktop tower. They replaced it quickly. I've read the one star reviews today and my expectations aren't so good.

Great screen color and brightness. Shiny glass screen is a bit of a glare problem. On screen keyboard not easy to program for repeat key entry but not sure that I'll use it that much anyway. The white ceramic coating shows every touch -- let's see what this looks like in a year. Processor is very fast. Battery life of 14 hours is suspect but I think battery life is like MPG's in cars -- you never get what they say you will. LOL Touchscreen is good, track pad is very smooth and accurate and large. Backlit keyboard is nice. I like typing on it.

I was looking for a replacement for my 2013 Chromebook Pixel CB001 LTE (which had reached end of life support). I wanted to avoid any Celeron Processor equipped models, as my Pixel had a Core i5 and had very nice overall performance (other than it atrocious battery life).I initially purchased an Asus Chromebook Flip C302A Core m5 and was a bit disappointed with both the performance and battery life (thought it offers premium design). Underwhelmed by the Flip (primarily the Octane Benchmark aspect of it's performance), I started looking around again. Our local Best Buy has a nice selection of Chromebooks (from the PIxelbook down to the lowliest Samsung). I basically went to the store display and ran Octane on all of the non-Celeron equipped models (other than the Pixelbook, which was unavailable as a display unit). Going around the table, they had a similar 2-in-1 Dell unit (Core i3) but it would not hit the 32,000 mark that this HP could. This HP Core i3 beat them all out - it consistently hitting the 32,000+ mark on Octane (my purchased unit has reached 33k+ in guest mode). In comparison, the Core m5 Flip could only hit 24,000 consistently (which I know isn't too shabby, but I wanted premium performance). That, along with the online reviews that praised the HP battery life, pushed me over the edge and I purchased. The $499 sale was an amazing price for this unit. I couldn't be happier. I think the 14" screen size is a sweet spot for touchscreen Chromebooks. 1080p is fine for my use as well. This and the Flip were my first Chromebooks that I purchased that supports Android Apps. That was NOT a selling point for me (and after owning, still wouldn't be). I think right now that this Android/Chrome OS dual setup is very similar to what Microsoft tried to do with Windows 8/10 with the Microsoft Store Apps vs. Traditional Windows Programs. It feels so disjointed to me. If you like that aspect, from the best that I can tell, the HP handles the Play Store/Android App function quite well. Does the premium performance come with premium build quality and design? I would say not exactly. I think it would have fared better if HP would have went with with an all-aluminum design, but the build is sturdy, back-lit keyboard and track-pad are both terrific, and port layout and B&O Audio are very good. All in all - I am in Chromebook heaven!

I had an older Acer Chromebook that was loading web pages pretty slow, so I've been looking for an upgrade. This is the one to get. It has a premium feel, loads web pages super fast, and the screen is gorgeous. I am completely sold on chrome books. No more opening up a laptop, and waiting for updates, virus scans, and all the other crap that comes with windows.

    Runs hot with SD Card

Is HP listening? I've had this for a week or two. Picked up at the local Best Buy store while on sale. It is my first Chromebook and overall I like it. I like having access to Linux and have installed LibreOffice so I can easily work off line. I added a Samsung Evo Select 128 GB micro SD card. It seemed to work fine for an hour or so and then I felt my lap getting hot. It wasn't long before the X360 locked up. I finally got it shut down and let it cool off for a couple of hours. I then hired it up again and it got hot again and froze again. I finally realized that the only change from previous days was the SD card so I've removed the card and the Chromebook is working fine. I'm hoping that HP and/or Best Buy is listening and can offer some advise. Should I use a different SD card? Which one? Why did this thing get so hot? I do need the extra storage for working off line. Looking forward to some feedback. Thanks for reading.

Gets it all done for less. This was a great option for all four high school years. I will take it to college for the next two years until it no longer updates past June 2025.

Opted to return defective rather than exchange

After handling this device briefly in the store and reading the glowing reviews on Chrome Unboxed, I decided to buy one when it went on sale for $350. After unboxing and setup, I realized that my unit had either a defective lid or perhaps a problem in the hinges -- when the screen was rotated back to presentation mode or further, the touch input would either cut out entirely or there would be phantom touches registering (mainly right-clicks). Worse, the browser page would oscillate up and down slightly, as if your finger were on the screen, rapidly moving up and down. My initial thought was to exchange the unit, but then I noticed that the screen would sag backwards on its own ever so slightly when open more than 90 degrees. Perhaps this play in the hinges was part of the defect, but it didn't inspire confidence in the design. I also found that 14 inches is bigger than I really want for a tablet, and 3.7 pounds is heavier than it seemed to feel in the store. In fairness, this is a blazingly fast Chromebook, and I may have just had a rare lemon. But when the Best Buy agent told me that she had seen a couple of these come back with screen and hinge complaints, it confirmed my decision to return it for a refund.

    Best mid-range chromebook

This chromebook hits the sweet spot of cost to features. The must have features for me are the core i3, 64gb of memory, 8gb of ram, expandable storage (micro sd), a beautiful IPS touch display, and a USB-A port. There is a reason this chromebook has been reviewed 1500 plus times. This chromebook easily beats the base model pixelbook go which is 20 dollars more expensive. That mainly comes down to the pixelbook go having a core m3, and the hp having a core i3. The i3 is a much better processor and can easily complete all chromebook task, also handles emulation very well. This is a solid laptop, it feels very premium. The bottom is plastic, but it is hard to tell. The deck and lid are both brushed aluminum and feel solid. Little to no deck flex or screen wobble, which is impressive considering how insanely this this laptop is. The hinges are some of the best I've seen on any 2 in 1. The only issue I have had so far is with a pair of cheap bluetooth earpuds causing stuttering with video playback. I have seen others having this issue with hp laptops. Hopefully it is a software issue that can be fixed with an update. It does have some weight, but not in a bad way. It feels substantial and quality built. Audiophiles will appreciate the slappin' Bang and Olufsen tuned speakers. i would suggest this laptop over anything available in the mid range segment. It is feature packed and powerful with no major flaws.
