I am sorry that the cartridges didn’t work when they weren't in use for long. However, I hope to help you figure out how to solve that.
It is a good idea to shut the printer down when it isn't going to be used for a long while. That can save ink and electricity. However, it is very important to always use the power button on the printer itself to turn it off. That gives it time to ‘park’ the printhead so that the tiny inkjet nozzles are protected from excessive drying

Posted .Hi techgeek, thank you for your feedback, sorry to hear you are unhappy with the Page yield of your HP 950XL High Yield Black Ink Cartridge. Historically printer manufacturers used their own methods for estimating page yield. However, this made it difficult to compare different products. Nowadays, the published page yield is based on the Industry Standard for measuring yields (refer to International Standards Organization ISO 24711). The actual yield varies considerably based on the content of the printed pages, the frequency of printing, the ink used in set-up etc. You may find that you will get more pages when printing in Fastdraftmode. XL size cartridges offer up to 50% lower cost per page compared with standard size cartridges. Our recommendation would be that you leave your printer powered on in normal usage conditions, only power it down if you will not use it for an extended period of time (ie: longer than one month).
