I have used "off brands" but the last time I bought them my printer would not accept them. Fortunately the store where I bought them (not Best Buy) took them back and issued a refund. Again, the cartridges work fine so quality is not an issue. It is the price I find too expensive. You can buy a printer relatively inexpensively, but replacing cartridges is the expensive part. Especially color.
