good luck with the set up

I CANNOT get this printer to go through the full set up. I got the printer to connect to my wifi but when I try completing the set up using the HP Smart app it constantly gives me an error message at the "configuring printer" set. Or the one time it DIDN'T give me that error it sat on that step for over 2 hours so I ended up closing it. I understand wanting to make things more techy or whatever but I feel like this WHOLE problem could be avoided if you actually provided a set up CD with the printer instead of going through an app. Also recommending set up using a special USB when the wifi portion doesn't work is not cool especially if you don't provide said USB. I spent close to a whole day trying to get this set up, I've searched for every trouble shooting I can find and nothing has worked. I'm going to end up returning this and going back to a canon because at least I know they work.
