This is the worst piece of equipment I have ever purchases. There is absolutely no support from HP. After 2 weeks they called me and I was on the phone for over an hour. The printer works when it feels like working. I even called Best Buy but I kept getting switched to a virtual assistant. All in all this is the worst purchase I have ever made and it will be in the garbage soon.

HP Smart program worked on my computer then did not and now will not install. So it worked for about 3 weeks. I had to uninstall and then it will not install at all. I found out that a lot of people have problems with the HP Smart program with Windows 10, The printer gets paper jammed and does not take the paper smoothly. Bad design. It is difficult to get the paper in.

      Hi there.

I’m sorry to hear that the HP Smart App stopped working on your computer and won’t install again, and that the printer has experienced frequent paper jams. It’s no surprise that you’re frustrated by this combination. I would love for you to get the printer working to your satisfaction, so I’ll suggest some resources aimed at making that happen.

First, if you believe the software issue is based on compatibility with your operating system, I recommend you visit a page on our support site that has diagnostic tools for various issues. There you’ll find our Windows 10 Support Center. Visit that page here:
      - support.hp.com/us-en/topic/diagnostics

Next, if you’ve not done so already, I recommend that you follow a guide to installing and using the HP Smart App, especially the FAQ portion, which covers common questions as well as difficulties users have encountered. Choose the link to whichever document matches your operating system:
      - Windows 10: support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04675142
      - Mac OS: support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06188214
      - Android and iOS: support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03561640

If the problem persists – and for advice on clearing and avoiding paper jams – I suggest that you contact us directly at +1 800-474-6836 so we can help you assess the situation and find a solution. (Please note that because of restrictions on personal movement and workplace attendance associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, wait times for agents are longer than normal. Thanks in advance for your understanding.) To expedite the process, I recommend gathering the following information before the call:

      - Your location
      - Case number (from any previous contact with HP support)

      Hi there.

I’m sorry to hear that the printer did not meet your expectations regarding the fax function. I can clearly understand why this would be quite a disappointment, especially considering you need the fax function several times a month and your last printer had fax capability. With that in mind, I’ll offer some resources that I hope will help.

First, this printer does have a fax function, albeit a mobile fax. You can learn how to use that by accessing the user manual on our support site. You can also find video tutorials, how-to documents, troubleshooting guides and software updates here:
      - support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-deskjet-plus-4100-all-in-one-series/29378221/model/29378225

On our site you can get help from a virtual agent, search our extensive knowledge library or check your printer’s warranty status. Get in touch via this link: support.hp.com

THis printer, has difficulty ( 2 hours worth) connecting to Wi-Fi, it does not print, paper loading is a headache, the lasck of touch screen or any instrcutions or instructional mode is glaringly apparent. I lost 7 hours of my life, on hold, given bad information, and honestly kloss of monetary income. I am returning it. Had it been free( its so badly engineered) I would still return it!

Cheap and good for light home printing, for a while. Ink lasts like 20 pages of course. Its been about a year and the thing doesn't work anymore. Black won't print, even with a new cartridge. The App is annoying and the printer itself is loud as hell. I hate HP with all my heart, but at least they are consistent.

      Hi, Ray.

I’m sorry to hear that your experience with your printer is not what you expected. I can’t tell for sure, but it sounds like you’re out of ink and have not yet received your first set of Instant Ink cartridges. That’s certainly a disillusioning combination, so I’ll offer some information I hope will help.

I’m not sure why you’ve not yet received your replacement ink cartridges, so I recommend that you contact our Instant Ink program via virtual or phone agent so we can help you assess and resolve the situation. To reach a phone agent, call 1-855-785-2777. Please note that because of restrictions on personal movement and workplace attendance associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, wait times for agents are longer than normal. Thanks in advance for your understanding. To reach a virtual agent, follow this link:

Opening the HP 4100 All-in-one printer and you'll find 2 ink cartridges (black and tri-color), power cord, and the printer. My unit didn't include a USB cable, so if you want to connect yours to your PC through a USB port, you'll want to have a male USB A to male USB B cable available. After unpacking the unit, removing the plastic protective wrap, tape and cardboard, you have the choice to connect via USB as stated above or by wireless. If you choose wireless, you can go to the HP website and download the software or use the HP Smart app on your iPhone or Android phone. I already have the HP Smart app on my Android and it hasn't failed to make an install easy yet. So I just follow the prompts and tada, easy as before. The instructions tell you to make sure you use the latest version of the app, I always update my Google Play apps so I should be good. So the printer, it's your basic all-in-one printer with all the latest features needed to do daily tasks. The HP Smart app can set up printing, scanning, copying, sharing and even help troubleshoot the printer. Just open the HP Smart app on your Windows 10 machine and you'll see the printer and any other HP printers you have connected that use the app. I have the Smart Tank Plus 550 connected. Below that you'll see options such as getting supplies, scanning, settings, printing and more. The app is well laid out and easy to use. It doesn't offer a landline connection (does anyone use a landline...I do, lol), but it does offer mobile fax from your phone or PC. Other useful items are sleep mode and quiet mode. If the printer is inactive for 5 minutes it goes into sleep mode and if you enable quiet mode (off by default), it will print slower at a better quality with less noise. I'n not sure if this unit has auto-off, I didn't wait 2 hours to see if it powered down, but if it does it is turned on by default and will help save energy. You just use the power switch to turn it back on. HP offers what they call Instant Ink. You pick a plan and they will send you ink. They claim a 50% savings. I for one am tired of every company wanting to set me up with a rotating bill. It feels like those old cassette tape memberships from the 80s-90s. I'll pass, but I can see where it would be useful to someone that has a lot on their plate and wants to forget about having to purchase ink before running out. It all depends on how you look at it and what your needs are. Just throwing that out there so reader's know their options. Lastly it states on the box that it works with Apple Airprint. I'm guessing that's an iPhone thing and I'm a long time Android user, so just FYI. My opinion is like I stated, it's a good inexpensive all-in-on printer. It does what you need it to do and would be great for a home office or a student. I have no problem recommending HP products to my friends. I'm currently using an HP Ryzen 7 desktop with (2) 27f monitors. I've had good luck with their products.

Purchased in July and just opened the box to install. The glass was broken in numerous places! Best Buy will not replace because it has been too long since I purchased the printer. Really? I have never even used it! It was only taken out of the box. Considering the thousands of dollars I have spent at Best Buy over the years, horrible way to treat a long time customer over a $100 printer.

This printer is HORRIBLE. It takes hours to connect. Literally. Once it finally does, it saysb there's no paper when there is. It runs errors that you can't figure out because it won't connectn to the app you HAVE to download. If it finally prints, 4 out of 5 times, it jams. There's no plugins to connect with a usb cord. Hi there.

I’m sorry to hear that your printer has not connected wirelessly like it should. I can easily envision why this would quickly become a major frustration. I can’t tell from your review whether your printer won’t connect on setup or you’ve had it connected before but it won’t reconnect. Regardless, I’ll offer what I hope are some helpful suggestions.

First, I recommend you visit a page on our support site that has diagnostic tools for various tasks and issues, including setup and wireless connectivity issues. Visit that page here:

Connecting WiFi is the hardest part ever! HP needs to work a lot on it.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend

      Hi there.

I’m sorry to hear that your printer has not connected wirelessly like it should. I can’t tell from your review whether the printer has not connected at all or failed to maintain that connection once you’ve made it, but I’ll offer some resources and information I hope will help in either situation.

First, I recommend you visit a page on our support site that has diagnostic tools for various problems, including setup and wireless connectivity issues. Visit that page here:
