Instant Ink, Virtual Fax & Budget Friendly

I have an All-in-One Laser printer that I absolutely love by another manufacturer. However, as a long-time user of HP printers, desktops & laptops, I have wanted to try one of their new printers with "instant ink"! Setup The setup of the HP Wireless All-In-One Inkjet 4155e was very easy. I unboxed everything, undid all of the tape holding the pieces in place like any other printer, inserted the ink cartridges, powered on the printer & was breezing through setup with zero problems. App The app is straightforward, easy to use & guided me through the above setup. It has a nice look, layout as well as being responsive with crisp movement on iOS 14 on an iPhone 11 Pro Max. No major problems at all thus far-only a small annoyance when setting up my account & the Instant Ink. Account & Instant Ink As other reviews have mentioned you get 6 free months of Instant Ink but I had to sign up for a plan when creating my account and linking the printer. Also, I had to find the exact model number of this printer (not a 4155e) when linking the printer to my HP account. Nor was it on the label containing the serial number either like HP's website said it was. I had to Google it. Not good HP, not good at all. The next minor issue was the monthly subscription where I chose the $0.99/month option. Why? Because I have my Laser printer that is my main printer. It is lightning fast & just my default after months of use. Printing Printing isn't blazing fast nor is it super slow. This is a lower-priced inkjet printer that delivers good basic printing & so you won't find it doing an insane amount of printed pages per minute, nor will it do photo lab quality photo printing but that isn't what this printer is for. It is for a SOHO setup and so it does fit my family's needs pretty well. Display The display on the printer has an exclamation point on the display which I thought meant there was a problem. Clicking the button led to a setup page being printed with all my printer's information including the network configuration being printed...just like I had printed 3-4 minutes prior. That was annoying. Googling left me with no answers, nor did looking up the manual online for this model of printer. This is where having multiple classes of printers, within the same product line just slightly varied model numbers, can be a hassle for the consumer. Yes, you're saving money on documentation costs but you're frustrating the consumer. This was a letdown for me. Other Perks With our kids returning to school soon I will be faxing a lot of items to the school, to the doctors, etc. and so this printer coming with free virtual fax for a while was definitely something I was looking forward to! I can say it has thus far worked well for me. I have zero complaints thus far! Wireless printing has been a breeze & again, while not nearly as rapid as our laser printer it has 100% done its job effectively. It sits in a room in our home farthest away from the router & yet it has never dropped from the WiFi or given us any problems. Very good sign, especially since another vendor's WiFi item sits directly on top of our other printer, right next to this one, and does have issues staying connected. Kudos to HP on the nice wireless NIC that is included in this printer. Closing In closing I have a few minor complaints about the printer, however, for a budget printer it does a really good job. If they can fix the ambiguity of the manual, fix the burden they place on the consumer to find the correct product number in order to actually activate the extra year of a warranty + the free Instant Ink for 6 months, then it would be a no brainer budget printer. Oh! The only other minor issue I had was that it seemed that I could only fit about 8 sheets of paper in the paper holder for the printer. Very minimal amount for seemingly no reason. I guess unless that is trying to coincide with the $0.99/month plan that they offer which is for 15 printer pages a month. That would make sense but super odd to me. Not a deal breaker, just made me wonder the reasoning behind it.

The HP - DeskJet 4155e Wireless All-In-One Inkjet Printer is, for me, a mixed bag. PROS - A lot of features for the price. - Insta Ink makes it simple to stay supplied for active use - Wifi set-up is simple and fast - Normal Print Quality is Good CONS - Paper is fed via the back rather than bottom - Does not print 2-sided - Copies are 300 dpi max, thus lose detail from originals (Note: This is normal for this price range) - Printer will refuse to print if you attempt to use 3rd-party ink If your usage scenario is for good, basic, single-sided color printing with a no-hassle ink solution - and at a budget-price, then this may work for you. If you're looking for more than that, keep looking.
