Customers consistently note the ENVY 2-in-1 13.3" Touch-Screen Laptop's touch screen, portability, price, and user-friendly nature. Many appreciate its compact size, making it ideal for school and travel. However, some users express dissatisfaction with Windows 8.1, the speakers' volume, battery life, and occasional performance issues such as slow processing and touchscreen responsiveness.

Like product, if only the keyboard worked!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Keyboard apparently never charged. Back to HP within 30 days. I like product design and functionality, now if the keyboard can work too. Disappointed that a new HP would be substandard. Will wait and see what happens after HP works on it.

Overall good but could be better
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: -Gorgeous screen -Super Quiet -Lighter than initially thought -M Processor isn't horrible -SSD and amount of Ram -Good sound once you follow my advice -No bluetooth problems for me at least other than my bluetooth headphones which the Surface Pro 3 didn't work with either. Cons: -Brown keyboard. What were you thinking HP? -No fault of HP but Photoshop and some other Adobe apps, Nightingale Music Player and a few other apps have a hard time with the high res screen. -Bloatware -Keyboard keys are subject to bounce (two of the same char) -Beats audio is horrible and unstable (you can disable it) -Battery life so far is Eh! -Power cord is overly thick and inflexible Let's get my cons out of the way... I don't like the brown keyboard. It's downright ugly. It also likes to bounce and produce two characters for one keypress if you're not careful. It is loaded with junkware that you can easily get rid of though. The power cord going to the unit is ridiculously thick! This thing could carry 100amps through it?! Until you learn to adjust your typing a little, many times 2 of the same letter will be entered when the keys bounce. The absolute worst thing about this is the Beats audio, It fluctuates in level and distorts the sound. If you're going to be using headphones most of the time, you'll like it most of the time. However, out of the speakers the sound levels often are erratic and low. Even if you un-tick the Beats from the control panel, it's still there. Here's what you do... ------------------------------------------------------------- Control panel->Device Manager->Sound, video and game controllers. Find - High Definition Audio Device Right click and select Update driver software->Browse->Let me pick from a list Choose "High Definition Audio Device" close control panel and reboot. WARNING: This is a trial app. If you like it, it will cost you $20 Go to http://www.letasoft.com/sound-booster-download Download, install and run this app. There will be a new icon in the system tray that looks like a little speaker. Right click->Options->Start on Windows Startup Now click the icon again and boost the sound to your liking, Sometimes it takes a moment for the setting to kick in. When using headphones or working on serious audio you can disable it. It will not boost music as much as videos but it does make a difference and you will hear it the first video you play. ------------------------------------------------------------- The screen on this, as reported by Lisa on her Mobile Tech Youtube review is gorgeous. It has great viewing angles and the colors are spot on for the most part. It boots very quick, the ram is sufficiently fast and the WiFi connection is pretty good. As I mentioned, Photoshop and the other Adobe apps work fine but you'll notice the menu fonts and icons are teeny. This is no fault of HP! It's the legacy code Adobe as buried inside PS, Dreamweaver and a couple others. I use Nightingale for my music because I like lyric scrolling for parties. It too has a issue with hi DPI screens. There are work arounds for both issues but are too involved to post here. Overall, as time goes on I'm liking this more. It grows on you. The 13.3 is better than the Surface Pro 3's 12 inch screen for older eyes and more detailed work.

Great alternative to Microsoft Surface Pro 3
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I own this computer. For me, it's ideal. I went to Best Buy intending to purchase the Surface Pro 3 i5 256GB SSD/8GB RAM, albeit really unhappy about having to pay $1299 for the computer, plus another $129 for the keyboard cover. Instead, I discovered this HP Envy on sale, did some research online in the store, and purchased it for several hundred dollars below the $1099 retail, with the keyboard cover included. It's an excellent unit, in my opinion. The keyboard is far superior to the Surface Pro 3 keyboard. The 5th Gen Intel Core M processor hasn't disappointed me either. The full HD screen is bright and sharp, and the front facing speakers are very good, as well. Finally, the kickstand is every bit as good as the Surface Pro 3, but with a cleaner design. The value this unit offers compared to the MS Surface Pro 3, especially if you can catch it on sale, is tremendous.

Compelling alternative to the Surface Pro 3
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased this computer as an alternative to the Surface Pro 3 (i5 with 256gb SSD Model #PS2-00001). I enjoyed using the Surface Pro 3 but the price ( $1299.99+ $130 for the Type keyboard/cover +Tax= $1560) was too high. I saw this HP - Envy 2-in-1 (Model #13-j002dx) when it was first introduced at Best Buy toward the end of November 2014 for $1,099.99. Even at that price it seemed like a better deal than the Surface Pro 3 because the HP Envy 2-in-1 has very similar but slightly better specs including a 13.3 inch 1920x1080 screen, a 256gb SSD, a 5th Generation Intel M-5Y70 processor (This is the next gen Intel i5 dual core equivalent that offers 1.1 GHZ of processing power in power save mode but can go as fast as 2.6 GHZ with turbo boosting and 4mb cache), Intel HD 5300 graphics, Wireless AC Wifi, 2 USB 3.0 ports and a full size HDMI port and an SD card slot not to mention it comes with a Surface-like, backlit, bluetooth, magnetic, keyboard that charges the tablet, which is included for FREE. It also has 2 forward facing Beats branded speakers built into the bezel, which is a nice to have feature. Unlike the Surface Pro 3 there is no included stylus however an HP Active Stylus can be purchased at Best Buy for the meager price of $59.99 (SKU #1169103) - as of the day of this review it can be purchased at HP.com at a sale price of $44.99. The lack of an included stylus is not a deal breaker for me because I never really use the stylus very much anyway. The compelling part of the story is that I recently found this computer on sale at Best Buy for $899.99 (a $200 savings over the original price! A $600 savings over the Surface Pro 3 that I had before!). In terms of performance this has been a good unit so far. I have heard that some of the new Lenovo Yoga Pro 3s have used this new Intel Broadwell chipset and it has resulted in slower performance when the processor is throttling when compared to Intel's Haswell chips in the Yoga Pro 2 models. However I do not plan to do any gaming on this unit and I won't need to perform photo or video editing so I am assuming that it may not affect me (if it does I will revisit this review and post comments for anyone else's benefit in the future). It is fast thanks to the SSD drive and the 8 GB of onboard memory. The Bluetooth keyboard is cool because you can use it detached from the tablet up to 30 feet away. The keyboard also charges the tablet. This would not be very good review if I did not tell you what I do not like about the HP - Envy 2-in-1... 1.) The weight. At 4.1 lbs this is a little heavier than other ultrabook laptops I have had. This is the weight after you include the keyboard and tablet together. Definitely not as thin or svelte as the Surface Pro 3. 2.) The Keyboard. The keyboard is functional but it is in no wise the most comfortable or best typing experience I have had before. Unfortunately this is an area that all of the ultrabooks/2-in-1 convertibles suffer from, including (perhaps even especially) the Surface line. 3.) The HD screen resolution. At 1080p most computers have to render text so small that it can make things on screen difficult to see. For this reason I strongly considered the 15.6 inch version of the HP - Envy 2-in-1. The main compromise being that it does not have the straight SSD drive but rather a 516GB hybrid. Screen size and SSD notwithstanding from what I can tell the two computers are otherwise identical in every way. 4.) Comfort while sitting on your lap. While this design has benefited from several iterations of Microsoft Surface 's mistakes,,,like the Surface Pro 3 it does not always sit well on your lap, like a traditional laptop would. 5.) The speakers. The speakers are louder than most and benefit from being front mounted and branded by Dr Dre. Nevertheless, I would take a good external speaker or set of speakers anyday over using just the built in speakers. I hope this review has been helpful to anyone else out there looking for a new laptop replacement. I will be sure to add to any updates to the comments section on this post if the need arises.

Awesome combo
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the price, this was clearly a better value than the Surface Pro 3. I was concerned about the size, but all together, it is a much more compact package than the laptop that it is replacing. It is snappy and fast, as long as you do not have it in power saver mode. It is really sluggish in that mode, which I assume is reason for the negative reviews on that issue. The screen is awesome. I was concerned at first that the size would not be lap or hand holding friendly, but after about 3 days I was hooked and have not touched my 10.1 tablet since. It is lap friendly in tablet only mode and lap friendly enough with keyboard attached. A little disappointed to see it marked down $100 bucks at $799 less than 30 days after I purchased it, but it is what it is. Will have to see how the keyboard holds up over time, but for now, it works and the magnet snap is good to go. I was seriously considering purchasing at $1099, but really glad that I waited and got it for $200 cheaper. Would have purchased on the spot at $799.

A solid product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this tablet but it isn't perfect. However, there isn't a perfect tablet out there. The processor is good for what I do: browse the internet, email, writing, a few games, etc. It handles them all very well and being silent is a plus as well. The back has only gotten warm, never hot. I love the screen size, 13.3", and the kickstand that can accommodate just about any angle you might want. The screen is 1080p which I also appreciate and the keyboard is Bluetooth so it doesn't have to be physically connected to work and that too is really nice. Having a decent processor, 8 gb memory and 256 gb hd is really nice. I also love having forward facing speakers! I can actually hear them and they really sound good even though I really could care less that they are beat's speaker! What I would change: reduce the bezel and the forward facing speakers to make the foot print smaller without reducing the 13.3" screen. This is the biggest change that I would make. Make the magnets stronger like it's competitor! That to me this is the biggest problem with this tablet. With the curved back shape of the tablet I think they could have put a bigger battery in it which also would have been really nice as I get about 6hrs on a single charge. Even with it's flaws I would definitely recommend this HP to anyone who doesn't need a lot of horse power for intensive computing and dollar for dollar it really is hard to beat this tablet! If you want more information watch the reviews of it on youtube. I watched them before purchasing and after using this for several months I think they, especially mobiletech reviews, are pretty much spot on.

Excellent PC with some flaws
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First of all I'd like to warn you about reviews posted that state things like 'updates broke my Envy' or 'Lost connectivity' because generally speaking these would indicate driver or software issues. My first week with the Envy X2 was disappointing because of this. I ran every update possible including the HP Support utility driver update and that was a big mistake. After factory resetting the device and installing a couple of key driver updates I've been back in action for 3 weeks and LOVE this PC! Specifically, do not update the Bluetooth drivers offered by the HP support utility. Just let Windows handle that and thing will work fine. The touch screen is responsive, the keyboard has a nice touch type feel and I can use the touch pad or stylus (optional) to operate the machine. This is probably not a tablet replacement due to the size and weight but I've often wondered if I could do without my iPad...nah no way. Love my iPad too. It's fast and has great graphics as well. Super impressed overall but use caution when updating and you should be fine.

Lacks Refinement
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this because at it's sale price it was significantly less expensive than the Surface Pro 3. Overall if you've never used a Surface Pro 3 but you're looking for this form factor this might be the laptop for you. There are a few things though that are nagging problems with this laptop that means it probably going to have to go back. Pros- Larger screen than the SP3 means there is more screen space to get work done, but at 1080p it's lower resolution that other premium devices. Large speakers sound pretty good for the form factor and are definitely better than most tablets Leather keyboard cover looks really nice and provides a passable typing experience. Cons- Unit is heavy- don't count on using it in tablet mode very often because this thing is not very light The magnet connection that holds the keyboard cover to the tablet isn't strong enough to keep the keyboard on the device if you lift the tablet without supporting the keyboard. Battery life needs to be much better. With the Intel Core M processor this unit should be pushing 10 hours of battery life, but I've been getting about 5.5-6 hours doing normal productivity. Because of the large speakers and bezel on either side of the screen this unit is large. It has about the same footprint as a 15in laptop and frankly looks ridiculous if being used in tablet mode.

Great versatility
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.needed a laptop that was portable enough and would travel on a plane without the guy in the seat ahead of me knocking into my lap! additionally love the speed with the SSHD, only wish I had was expandability of memory with additional micro SD slot. otherwise, couldn't be happier! Great job HP!

Nice laptop with 13' screen and great features
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought about two months ago and so far I've been pleased. I've owned HP's before and they are reliable and great computers for the money. I feel this Envy 2-in-1 is a better value than the Microsoft Surface. Love the concise footprint with the thin leather keyboard and 13.3" HD screen. The Intel M Core processor is not as fast as the I7 but it runs cooler and w/o a fan is more quiet. That said, it's plenty fast for my purposes. Having the SSD versus the traditional hard drive has also been a nice feature as boot time is really quick. My only disappointment is the native Beats Audio external speakers are not very loud but when using earphones they are great. I am also getting used to Windows 8 but am awaiting for the new Windows 10 OS so I can upgrade.

It's not for me, but it may be for you
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have taken some time to use this 2-1 and I've come to the conclusion that it is not for me. I very much wish that I liked this but I've found too many small details that I don't find preferential. I've found that the touchpad is not the best. It has its moments when it feels like everything it should be. However, I have experienced the touchpad perform inconsistently too many times. It can be too sensitive while typing when my thumbs are hovering too close (without touching it#. Sometimes when I place too much pressure on the pad while navigating, the cursor can slow down and be much less sensitive. It feels very sluggish as this occurs. The keyboard has a little flex in it and when not supported by a hard surface such as a table or desk, it can flex a little when I type and cause the keys to miss strokes. It makes it quite difficult to type sometimes. Otherwise, the keyboard feels good texturally and responds well. I understand that you may want to use this as a laptop because it includes a quickly and easily detachable keyboard. Please understand that this may prove rather difficult unless you keep your legs close together. The tablet portion is not self supported and does not stand on its own. It uses a high-quality metal stand which folds out of the back of the unit. When not in use, it folds perfectly flush with the back of the tablet. The stand is not the complete width of the tablet and is only approximately 9" long and is centered. The lack of a full-width stand makes it difficult to support without keeping your knees close together. The screen is described as 1920 x 1080. The screen looks fine, however I have yet to be impressed by anything on this screen - including 1080p video and high-res photos. I also had two bad pixels right out of the box. I'm the type of person, while understandably picky, cannot overlook the dead pixels once I know they are there. They are always nagging at me. This is obviously a defect but still influences my decision - remember, I'm picky. Enough of the low points, I'll give you the high points. The specs are great. I would have liked a larger SSD, but I can't gripe too much about a price tag of $849. The backlit keyboard is outstanding and can be turned on/off at will when your lighting situation changes. The two USB ports are a great feature. Beats Audio sounds clear. I use high-end headphones and they sound excellent when connected to this tablet. The HDMI output is also a nice touch. The new Core M-5Y70 mobile processor was initially meant to be used in business computers to give the zippy performance and battery life needed in the corporate world. This is, by no means, strictly a business computer. This would make an outstanding personal device and it definitely gave me great performance. All of the good and bad considered, I'm going to return this for a different 2-1. Again, other than the defective pixels, there was nothing wrong with the computer. I just did not find all of the "bad" areas preferential. I located this on and end display in the store and it was easily accessible. You may find that this is more your style. I would at least recommend this computer for you to try.
