    Great for documents, but...

This is great for wireless document printing but the photo quality is lacking. I get better photos from my laser printer. The color levels etc are never balanced. It doesn’t matter what program I use to adjust the photos. I’m disappointed.

Never really tried it. Had to return it after merely opening the box. It's big. I needed something small to print kids' homework. Yes, I read the measurements but when I took it out of the box, it felt as big as a microwave!

I received this printer without start up cartridges. I purchased cartridges, but it won't allow me to start it up without the start up cartridges. I'd like to know how to purchase start up cartridges so I can use this printer

It works great, but was very tough to connect wirelessly. It said everything was connected with the wi-fi, but the printer didn’t recognize its own model. I used the cable, but after a couple weeks, it finally paired up.

The point of purchasing the product was he ease of wifi connectivity. This is always a hassle and I normally use the USB port. The HP app is frustrating to work. Needs to be a seamless process

Every time I need to print something I need to remove the printer and add it again. Otherwise my laptop can not communicate with the printer. There are things that are fundamentally wrong with the HP Smart app.

This printer could have been better if the scanner was not a problem downloading. I also had problems downloading the printer and called HP who wanted to charge me $299 which was 3x the cost of the printer!!!

It’s annoying because it doesn’t connect to the WiFi easily, and you end up having to manually connect to a computer and then it prints slowly. But the things it actually prints are great.

      Hey there,

I'm so sorry to hear that you had to return the printer after encountering these issues with printing in color. This is not at all the reliable experience we intended on providing, I can fully understand how disappointing this must be.

I do want to clarify that the printer is compatible with the following Mac OS versions: Yosemite, El Capitan, and Sierra. With that said, I sincerely apologize that the printer wasn't yielding prints in color as it should have been.

Despite these complications, I do hope that in the future you'll allow us another opportunity to stand by the quality that we pride ourselves on. We'd love a chance to make things right.

This printer probably works well. However if you have a mesh wifi system it will not connect. Unfortunately I had to return due to the connection issue.

Horrible printer that HP would never replace

I see that many others have reviewed and really liked this printer. I am not one of those people. We purchased this printer because of all these great reviews and we were looking for something affordable and reliable. We enrolled in Instant Ink because that sounded great, too. But the printer was never able to register in Instant Ink. I was signed up and HP could see the printer that was registered with it, but the printer never accepted Instant Ink and stopped working after a few pages. I spent literally hours on the phone with HP; at one point, they took remote control of my computer and printer and couldn't do anything. But they refused to send me a new computer. Eventually, we purchased the regular ink. And still, the printing was smeared at times and at random times it would just stop working. Clearly, we got a lemon. But also, HP kept trying to give me a workaround. I appreciate all the work their customer service did to try to fix the machine, but the problem WAS the machine and they wouldn't do anything about that. I'm not a tech dummy; I know my way around hardware. This is clearly a printer that doesn't work and, judging from the other reviews, it's just my bad luck. But HP sucks for not replacing it and I can only review the hardware I have in front of me, which at this time is basically a $100 paperweight.

    Black cartridge resists cleaning

I'm using the original cartridge supplied with the printer. After running Level 2 cleaning routines three times, I still get an almost blank or page after sending an all-black line drawing to the printer.

Good printer when it works. Most of the time it doesn't connect with the router, so I have to turn off the printer and the router, and fingers crossed, it will reconnect next time. Not Reliable! I would not buy it again.

The printer works well with WiFi, but is slow and the scanner is not very user friendly to set up. Also produces out of line scans if not positioned in a certain way, depending on your documents orientation.

I had an HP photo smart printer and loved it then out of the blue it kept saying "your printer is off line" I have Total Tech Support so I contacted a Geek and he said it was some kind of card that went bad in my printer and I needed a new one (photo smart one was only a year old) SO I bought this new one and now its doing the same thing!!! I have had a Geek remotely fix this issue 4 yes 4 times now and now with the virus I cant get through the live chat, I've spent several hours on hold then a message pops up saying try later. My friend told me that she heard it was an HP issue that several people she knows are dealing with. I cant work from home without a printer....I am so frustrated with this.

    A Very "Connected" Printer

In the simplest terms, Printers Print. That is, most any modern printer will put an image and text on a piece of paper in fine detail and good colors. The things that set printers apart these days are features beyond decent printing. For example, the HP Envy 5055 excels in connecting to all of the PCs, tablets and smart phones within range of its Bluetooth or your Wi-Fi Modem's signal. When the free HP App is installed on your device, the software immediately seeks out the printer. Once the connection has been established the first time, your PC, cell phone, tablet, etc. will show up on the printer's LCD panel as an addressable device. When a picture or document is scanned on the printer, a press on the HP Envy 5055's screen will sent it to the phone or tablet you choose. Similarly, if the device has a program that can print, then that document or picture can be sent wirelessly to the printer even when the printer is in Sleep Mode. One of the biggest frustrations with Ink Jet printers for me at least is the cost of ink and the extra "engineering" manufacturers add (apparently at least) to use up colored ink as fast as possible by using colored ink even for black lettering. They also put a lot of effort into preventing owners from replacing the ink in the cartridges. The Envy 5055 is one of the newer HP models that offers HP's "Instant Ink" program. It manages to bring the printer into the "Subscription" model that the computer industry loves so much, but it actually has advantages for the user as well. If the user opts into the program, they can select from 4 tiers of use, from "Light" (15 pages per month) to "Frequent" (300 pages per month). Users of the program get special ink cartridges shipped to them (free shipping). When the printer detects that the ink is running low, HP will ship replacement cartridges. The cost to the user goes strictly by number of pages printed not color vs black. No more switching to "grey scale" to save on color cartridges. Of course the higher tiers with higher number of pages per month cost more, but the lowest tier (15 pages per month) is FREE. That's one page every other day. With casual home use I think I can do that. Pros: - Compact, solid, attractive design. - Simple guided setup. - Good photo and print quality. - Excellent optional automatic Ink delivery available. - Connects to wired or wireless networks. - Excellent Technical Support Cons: - Only three colors of ink means less range of colors and tones if printing pictures. However, there is a "Photo" version of this printer available which has more than just three primary color inks.
