    A Very "Connected" Printer

In the simplest terms, Printers Print. That is, most any modern printer will put an image and text on a piece of paper in fine detail and good colors. The things that set printers apart these days are features beyond decent printing. For example, the HP Envy 5055 excels in connecting to all of the PCs, tablets and smart phones within range of its Bluetooth or your Wi-Fi Modem's signal. When the free HP App is installed on your device, the software immediately seeks out the printer. Once the connection has been established the first time, your PC, cell phone, tablet, etc. will show up on the printer's LCD panel as an addressable device. When a picture or document is scanned on the printer, a press on the HP Envy 5055's screen will sent it to the phone or tablet you choose. Similarly, if the device has a program that can print, then that document or picture can be sent wirelessly to the printer even when the printer is in Sleep Mode. One of the biggest frustrations with Ink Jet printers for me at least is the cost of ink and the extra "engineering" manufacturers add (apparently at least) to use up colored ink as fast as possible by using colored ink even for black lettering. They also put a lot of effort into preventing owners from replacing the ink in the cartridges. The Envy 5055 is one of the newer HP models that offers HP's "Instant Ink" program. It manages to bring the printer into the "Subscription" model that the computer industry loves so much, but it actually has advantages for the user as well. If the user opts into the program, they can select from 4 tiers of use, from "Light" (15 pages per month) to "Frequent" (300 pages per month). Users of the program get special ink cartridges shipped to them (free shipping). When the printer detects that the ink is running low, HP will ship replacement cartridges. The cost to the user goes strictly by number of pages printed not color vs black. No more switching to "grey scale" to save on color cartridges. Of course the higher tiers with higher number of pages per month cost more, but the lowest tier (15 pages per month) is FREE. That's one page every other day. With casual home use I think I can do that. Pros: - Compact, solid, attractive design. - Simple guided setup. - Good photo and print quality. - Excellent optional automatic Ink delivery available. - Connects to wired or wireless networks. - Excellent Technical Support Cons: - Only three colors of ink means less range of colors and tones if printing pictures. However, there is a "Photo" version of this printer available which has more than just three primary color inks.

The only instructions for hook up is a pamphlet telling u to go to a HP website. I go there and asked my home phone , receive call right away asking for control of my laptop which I agree. After a few moments i'm told I had a major virus and it would cost $500 to fix problem and connect printer , I figured he has complete control over my system and has access to all my info. I told him it was to much , he came down to $200. I feel I was taken hostage and had to agree . He did connect me but shortly after I was receiving telemarketers calling every half HR for the next 2 days , I think they sold my # .

      Hi there,

I'm terribly sorry to hear about the troubles you've had with your printer! Even more so, it's awful to hear about the experience you had when reaching out to support. Unfortunately, support feedback of this nature is often linked to fraudulent companies or individuals.

There is no charge for standard support during your 1-year warranty period. Just in case, you can double check the warranty status of your printer here: support.hp.com/checkwarranty

With that said, these are the genuine resources you'll need for setting up your printer:
      - Getting Started Guide: hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05644461.pdf
      - User Guide: hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05643392.pdf
      - Reference Guide: hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05644456.pdf

If you need any help during the setup process, I hope you'll reach out to us at +1 800-474-6836 so we can guide you through the proper troubleshooting. To expedite the process, I recommend gathering the following information before the call:
      - Model number
      - Serial number
      - Your location
      - Case number (from any prior contact with authentic HP support)

      I hope this helps!

I use this to print off my tax documents, and infrequently use the rest of the year. Stopped working, prints blank pages. Same thing happened to the previous HP I bought the year before. Buying new ink cartridges cost nearly as much as a new printer, and not sure if the issue is the printer or the cartridges. Tried HP resources and cleaned heads, but no fixes worked. I do not recommend. I am trying another brand this year. Meh.

It was great, but just in a few weeks it stopped working. Geek Squad helped me with a cord because it was past the 2 weeks for a return. Will be looking for another, better quality printer soon.

Wish There was a manual that came with it. I'm getting my feet wet with technology equipment, and find it quite frustrating because of my lack of experience with various machines.

This printer if fine, if you need something for occasional use. However, it stopped working after about a year. I used the extended warranty to get something simpler.

This printer has been good for the low volume of printing that I do at home. If I need to do larger volume printing I would have chose a different printer as the print cartridge volume is low.

This printer does exactly what it says. It is an inexpensive option for getting an all-in-one use printer. I use it as a personal printer at my office desk. It is a bit loud, but not disruptive.

When there’s no WiFi signal then can’t be print, I think its better to come with a wire that can connect with my computer then we could print out without WiFi. Other than that it’s good.

I have personally own / owned several HP printers and when I was took on this one to test out, I was pleasantly surprised. The other Envy I currently have, which is practically the predecessor to the 5055 was a great all-in-one. Therefore, I expected the same if not better from this one. I opened the box and ran the setup using the friendly HP app on my android device. Within just a couple of minutes, I was printing via WI-FI, Bluetooth, and able to email directly from the unit. I printed pictures of my family and I from Fiesta Texas last summer since the background setting was very southwestern and vibrant with color. I did several from each Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Each printed fast but with a slight noticeable nob to the Bluetooth, which I have found to be a consistent action. Each printed page and picture comes out very well with crisp clean colors that are true to life (or camera settings :^). Though the quality of each is where you will find my four star rating. Colors are bright and true yes, but the pixelation is real and discernible. I am not saying they are bad; they are just not print shop quality. Worth hanging on the fridge but maybe not over the fireplace. The number one thing I do like about this printer is that HP has finally figured out that people have normal sized finger. Every other model I have with touch screen capability drives me crazy when it comes to anything I manually have to do using the unresponsive touch pads. I have normal size man hands and feel like the other models were not meant for me. Because no matter where I touched on the screen it would either not register at all or would respond as if I touched another close area. I have found the 5055 to have a larger sensory area; closer resembling a smart phone's touch area without changing the size of the display. The printer’s size feels very desk friendly and the sleek lines and curves look great. The scanner does not have a feeder but you can manually scan several pages into a nice low KB/MB (if just text pages - photos and pictures are higher at times) PDF. The ink consumption feels normal but overall would depend on your particular usage rate. I would envision the Envy 5055 for a consumer who just wants a very nice printer to use every so often (maybe just weekly or monthly'ish) with excellent reliability. In conclusion, I really like the Envy series and this one has some of the best parts and is a standout!

I bought this to replace my other HP printer that I took to my classroom. It is basic and serves the purpose. It does print slowly so I would not recommend for heavy printing.

It does what it is suppose to do, but not nearly as well as my Canon printer(s). Bought it on sale to have a backup printer. Unfortunately, that’s all it is good for.
