    Unacceptable HP customer/tech support

Purchased 3 mos ago for our daughter's (critical) use in grad school and, unfortunately, after BB return period she's had recurring issues with computer being stuck in sleep or hibernate mode. Had to take to BB a couple weeks ago, as the computer would not charge nor wake up at all. Thankfully, after some effort, BB agent was able to get it up and running. Since then, have tried to manually put in sleep mode to avoid a 20+ minute delay in waking up, but still have issues. Called HP customer support last week and they provided a direct number for Tech Support, suggesting TS might be able to diagnose problem over phone w/ computer in-hand. Just spent over an hour on Tech Supp. hold (no indication of wait time, number of people ahead, nor an option for a call-back). Then, auto hold message changed to "we are unable to take your call, please call back, good-bye." Guess they don't expect people to actually wait on hold for an hour... UNACCEPTABLE. We have purchased 3 HPs over the past couple of years. This will be the last one.

This laptop has given me nothing but issues since I got it. I received it in the mail on Sept. 11th and now Oct. 13th I've had enough of it! It is always freezing and having the screen turn blue or black on me as well as other things. Worst PC I've ever had and I no longer have trust in best buy because it was recommended by a sales associate to perform at the level of a normal laptop but this one falls well short after only having it for 1 month. Unable to perform school work on this laptop, and am now forced to buy another one. Hopefully still from Best buy if I'm allowed to return this one.

Overall, I am happy with the purchase. Big touch screen, I also used it as a second wireless monitor during COVID lock down. I always keep the laptop plugged in, and 2 year later, the battery is next to dead. Performance is still good for 4k HDR movies

I bought this laptop July 17, 2019 and only used it for The Sims 4. I have Every pack and it’s been very good. I use a lot of CC and Mods and it’s been great. It’s recently been getting hot and slowing down. It’s a great computer for the price! Especially if you play The Sims!

    Nice premium laptop

So ill try to be as rational as possible for this review. Firstly the color, it's not as black as it seems, it's more grey and in some instances looks brownish (depending on your lighting I suppose) i wish it were hardcore black but I still like it. Still nice, feels nice and the build looks pretty decent and more premium. It's just been 2 weeks so can't talk in terms of longevity. First thing i did was swap the parts that I could and install windows 10 with an ISO from Microsoft direct. Now about the upgrades, HP seems keen to hide info probably to sell the highest specs or maybe make a bank later when you go back to them for upgrades. But the m.2 and the RAM can easily be upgraded, few screws and the ram shield. I ended up with the 3700u with the 8gb ram and 256 m.2 (2280 size) 15M-DS0012DX model to be precise. Considering maxing out was the same cost of buying after market parts; in fact it would be cheaper if you were to say sell the original parts. So I ended up with a 2x8gb PNY sticks (16 total, I've been told by oner user the system can handle 64gb (he confirmed this by actually jamming gb in) although the manufacturer recommed 32 - same mentioned on the curicial site but oddly only option you get from the HP site max is 16) and the samsung 500gb 970 evo plus 970. Using Samsung magician; Sequential Read: 3374, write 2591, random (iops): read 172,363, write 76,171. It came with a SKhynix 256GB HFM256GDJTNG and 2x4gb SK hynix 2666 speed ram sticks (Probably getting rid of old stock because the laptop only supports 2400 max). Not sure if all laptops would come with the same innards. Only time I heard the fans were pretty much while playing unreal tournament (nothing else i did was heavy yet) else doing chrome and movies etc it was rather quiet with a max 2-3 second fan and back to normal. The game ran pretty smooth, i think I played for an hour and no issues, no feel of throttling but then the game isn't demanding I guess , it's the only game I play so it's nice i have a portable option for it. I had 12 chrome tabs, the game on and the laptop was less thatn 50% CPU usage and ram usage less than 8GB. Also some configs include the HP tilt pen, so keep an eye for that if you don't need it, it seems they will charge you another 50 usd or so on it. One thing I hated but it seems with all new laptops, there's no proper standby sleep mode, it goes into this modern sleep mode which just eats batter unlike the true s3 mode. The moden standby keeps network connection alive and although low power, not enough . I hope we get it in some update because it's rather stupid not to have such a old option. Keybord backlight would be needed often it seems as the print on the keys and keyboard color makes it difficult to see under certain light. I liked how they conceal the screws under the rubber grip strip under the laptop. Using it to read books etc as tablet is not really ideal because it's heavy to treat it like a book, but if you don't care about your posture and doing a couch lay, it's pretty neat with portrait mode browsing against your stomach and your lap I suppose.. Light color bleeding on the screen, something most devices have, so no biggie I think. Beautiful design and feels really nice, everyone who saw it in person loved it. The bang and olufsen is just a smart marketing ploy, speakers are really good but they are basically ""custom-tuned in collaboration with bang and olufsen"", so yeah marketing. Played some mudvayne heavy stuff and did not get that annoying distortion but I think it could be better; it has some special settings for the speakers in the software. Power and sleep settings seems limited, i don't see a lot of the options I have on Intel laptops and windows pro, so I don't know if its because of that or maybe in some update we would see some extra stuff. Night light doesn't work at the moment, maybe because of the latest Windows update, seen some people with the 2500u and 3500u saying the same, you can configure it through the Radeon settings though. Fingerprint works great. Tapping the screen does make the screen shake a little, I think it's normal and doesn't bother me; but then I don't use the touchscreen exclusive but in more of a combination at times. Keybaord feels pretty nice, took me a few seconds to get used to it, just because it has a number-pad, you would basically not be in the center but that's what you get for wanting a number-pad. Touchpad is nice, gesture supports are sweet and configurable, helps work faster; can be found under touchpad settings. Battery is also easily removable if you would prefer it to be a connected device always, disconnecting the battery could prolong it's life I suppose.

Great Laptop but not Optimal for Gaming

I bought this about a month ago and I love it. It's a huge upgrade for a 2013 i3 HP. This packs a serious punch with a 2nd Gen Ryzen 7 and 8 GB of DDR4 2400 RAM. The graphics in the device are not up to par for any "Hefty" game. I play Forza Horizon 4 on here and the device just can't really handle anything other than the lowest settings with 30fps. 60fps just maxes out the GPU leaving at around 40-50 frames. The screen also starts to faintly flicker, which is most likely do to the GPU running at around 70 C. It'll run lighter games like Minecraft with near max settings at 60fps though, which is a plus if you're into it. Standard work loads are great though because the CPU has either 6-8 cores, I don't really know, but will give you speed when needed. Only con is that it has a sort of film on 3/4 of the screen. You can't see it unless you clean the screen with a water-based cleaner or a bright flashlight. You can feel it using a microfiber cloth too, because it slows movement and prevents your finger from really gliding across it. I would recommed it though if you're looking for a powerful work/school computer and for light gaming sessions.

    Nice, but returning

I'm an average laptop user. Purchased this laptop over the weekend when my old HP fell and shattered the glass screen. Maybe I got a dud or else you really do need to do like other reviewers have done and immediately make some upgrades to the out of the box PC to really have it perform less 'buggy'. I've tried all types of settings with the touchpad and it still is really not smooth. I especially find this troublesome in Chrome. Not so much in Edge. I'm not a fan of my mouse being a bit jerky when scrolling both vertical and horizonal on screen. I can also be working online and not even doing much (remember average user) and it's like the laptop can't keep up with me and the screen will go black and then refresh out of the blue. The keyboard has developed a life of its own at times with the way it wants to type/space. These are settings I haven't touched, so not sure what is going on with it. It's an overall nice sturdy laptop from look/feel although it doesn't have a lip to open from the front so you have to find a spot on the corner to open. The keyboard is nice and so is the screen. Sound is also better than my last HP. It boots up uber fast which is nice. The idiosyncrasies I've been dealing with are enough though for me to not want to keep it.

WOULD be a great laptop but...

I really had my hopes up when I bought this computer. I bought it for school and I loved all the features it came with (like the ability to switch to tablet mode, windows ink compatibility, etc). If the computer worked as it should, I would give it five stars. However... This is the most glitchy computer I have ever owned! It can and will overheat, my apps crash all the time, every internet browser I have tried will also crash or cause my screen to go completely black for a second and then come back on. The adapter on the charger gets furiously hot at the most random times. Overall, it's just a really glitchy computer and I am so disappointed that I spent this much money on a computer that is always up to something strange. I always update when it prompts me to and take excellent care of the computer itself. I have contacted BestBuy and they will not help me fix these issues either. I will not be buying my next device from BestBuy, period. TLDR; would be a good laptop if it wasn't so glitchy!
