Excellent Laser Printer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review is for a HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdw. It is Black-and-White only. I started out with inkjet printers and found out later on the problems with owning them. You get dried up lines and cartridges when you let them sit unused. So a laser printer is the best you can get. Setup for this printer was easy. After plugging it in, I selected the language, country/region and time on the control panel. Next it gives you 3 options to connect your printer: Wi-Fi, Ethernet or USB. Wi-Fi was easiest for me and it provided a little screen keypad to enter all my network info. My Wi-Fi name is hidden but printer was still able to be setup. After it scans for available networks it also allows you to enter one manually. Once I entered it all in, it had no problems connecting without any errors. I then downloaded the HP Smart app for my phone and PC. I logged into it with an account I already have and then told it to search for printers. Once it found my printer, I selected it and it installed everything it needs to use the printer. Can't get any easier. It will print and scan two sided. I was very impressed with the speed of this printer too. I use laser printers at work and this one is even faster. Like really fast. The two sided print jobs are just one pass through. Printed pages are crisp, clean and perfect. You can scan documents with ease in the HP Smart app. I was very impressed with the scan quality also. At first it only showed me a preview and I thought oh no this doesn't look good. But when you save the scan then you can view it in full quality. They can be saved as either PDF or jpg. Now I can finally scan everything with ease and not keep a paper copy. There is also a fax option that I love too when you need to deal with banks, lawyers and insurance companies. You can take a picture of anything with your phone or scan a picture with the printer and then fax it without the need of a landline or fax machine. You cannot receive a fax through this service. To start using this it is free for a trial and then there is a monthly charge so I do not know the cost yet. You can still use this printer as a fax machine if you do have a landline. Wi-Fi direct printing is also available for any visitors you may have coming over. All they have to do is connect to the Wi-Fi direct name of the printer. I wish that HP would offer their printers in an all black version.

Wonderful machine when you can get it to work
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was one of the most irritating products to get to use. Installation of a printer should not take a week. This one fought tooth and nail to get installed following the directions (very specious) by the booklet. In the end, it took my intuition to get this printer to actually do anything other than to turn on. This printer has the capability to apparently read minds and networks and to "direct connect" to a wireless network. Little did I know this very quality was the cause of the printer not being able to do anything from the computer even though it was "recognized" by the computer. The instructions that came with this printer were not helpful in the least. It took me actually working on the very tiny screen on the printer pushing everything I could see that there was the ability to manually put in the wireless networking information even though the direct connect appeared to have the very same information that I was adding after direct connect failed. I then discovered how to turn off direct connect and suddenly the printer did things from the computer! I tried half a dozen times to work through the installation prior to this only get get an error message that the printer would not connect wirelessly (after over 5 minutes each time of waiting for the network device to install). Once I disabled the direct connect, the printer immediately worked! It is hard to give this printer five stars even as well as it might do its job when installation is obtuse and poorly documented. I've installed scores of printers in my 40 years of working on computers and this was by far the worst ever experience. I hope I can save people from the headache I had with this thing. I've installed cheaper all in one printers that were a breeze. This was a tornado in comparison.

Great MFP for a small office/home office.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first laser printer. I’ve always had inkjet printers, and had been conditioned to wait for ink to dry, the long printing time, and the dried out print head after a few days of nothing to print. Getting this laser printer has been eye opening! First, it’s HEAVY! At 30lbs, it’s a chonky boy! It’s not the flimsy throw away printer that you see on the back to school sales. Setup was the easiest I’ve ever had with a peripheral. I unboxed it, removed tape, plugged in, put my wifi password and the printer did everything else. All my devices recognized the printer on my network instantly. Scanning is crystal clear. Every detail meticulously captured (so make sure no dog hair gets on the screen!). Printing is where this bad boy shines. You have all the options of your local printshop in one tiny footprint. Easy double-sided printing, resizing, and more. Printing color graphics in greyscale is no issue either, for the printer converts the image perfectly so you still get a great image instead of a large black smudge. This is the first time I’ve been genuinely impressed with an office appliance to this level. The paper tray is roomy, so you’ll have plenty of room if you need to feed invoices or print payroll, but it’s also simple enough that kids can print their book reports and science project sheets and not worry. Really my only “concern” is for the small touch screen, being that I have very fat sausages for fingers, and the touch screen is the size of old flip phone screens. You gotta be careful. Other than that, this printer is top shelf quality!

Very reliable printer for moderate workflow.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdw is certainly not groundbreaking in its form, but it highly commendable in its functionality. From the moment you open the box, you're met with a the standard HP Laser printer design but with a more user centric interface that's both intuitive and sleek. The feature that undoubtedly takes the cake? Its direct Wi-Fi printing capability. It does help that I am on a 5G network with 1Gbps. The ease and speed of this function cannot be overstated. To my surprise, there was never a need to run a tedious PC connections; a simple wireless command, and my documents were printing in no time. Importantly, it should be noted this printer focuses on Black & White outputs, ensuring crisp clarity each time. Its performance is commendable. It’s swift and efficient, ideal for those under time constraints. That being said, if your print needs are sporadic - be it research papers, annual tax filings, or sprucing up your resume - this powerhouse might feel a tad excessive. Yet, for professionals managing a bustling home office, frequently navigating stacks of job jackets and an array of paperwork, it emerges as a top contender. While it's potentially over-equipped for the casual printer user, those grappling with substantial printing demands will find the 4101fdw to be a reliable ally. For those in search of a printer that combines reliability with a modern twist, this model stands out. As far Black & White printers go.... 5/5

Perfect for home and school needs
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I often work from home and need to print, and I have 4 school aged children and we are always printing assignments or papers for school. This all in one printer truly meets our personal needs. We use it for Scanning and Printing all the time. It is super easy to set up, and with wireless printing and scanning form the same network this is super easy for even my young kids to use. After you unbox the unit, place it where you want it to be and plug it in. When ou power it on, you will be guided through the setup on the screen. I have to be honest here, I was nervous how touch entry would be on the screen. BUt I was extremely happy with how accurate and responsive it was to my touch. I was worried I would press the wrong button or it would pick up my touch in the wrong place but it worked flawlelessly. I am not sure who faxes these days so we have not had a need for that specific feature but I appreciate it is there should I ever find I need it. But printing and scanning and making copies we actually use all three pretty regularly. The ink does come pre loaded into the printer. That i since, I get nervous changing them and was happy they were already installed. You can print single or double sided documents and they wont smear. So far this is a fantastic printer for our needs. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Incredibly Easy to Setup / Fast Scan + Print
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've owned a few HP printers in my life. This is the easiest, fastest, and best experience I have ever had with setting up a HP printer. The full color touch screen let me connecting to the WiFi network in seconds, the MFP 4101fdw was auto discovered by both Windows and MacOS devices, and everyone was printing. And this is when I run a mesh WiFi6 network that other printers have given me a headache - but not this HP! There was no need for software installs, mobile apps, or creating and signing into a HP account. On that basis alone I would recommend the MFP 4101fdw, because if you want a printer that just works and doesn't require an IT department to get it setup this is THE printer to get. In terms of other features, the print quality is superb but what really stood out to me was the speed and quality of the scanner. I had a lot of paperwork to scan and that auto sheet feeder and fast scanner made getting organized a joy. In terms of size, the HP MFP 4101fdw is relatively compact. We have ours on a bookshelf in the office. It is relatively quiet - as in, it's silent when not in use and it sounds like a laser printer when it prints. I will note that HP does have software you can download for the printer on the HP website but I haven't needed them. Tip: I do want to point out is my MFP 4101fdw did come with a USB cable in the box - I didn't need it, but FYI, in case you need it, it's there. But I have to say (again) it was easy and a delight to get onto WiFi.

HP - LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdw Printer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdw Wireless printer is a one stop shop when it comes to all your printing and scanning needs. Out of the box, the printer comes ready to go. Included in the box is the typical HP Instructions, power cord and HP was kind enough to include a USB cable. Nice touch indeed. Once the printer is out of the box, you will definitely notice its got some heft to it. Setting up the printer is a pretty straightforward process. Power on the printer and it will walk you through the configuration steps on the mini lcd screen in front of the printer. The printer has several ways to connect to your devices. Whether you choose to connect wirelessly, hardwire with a network cable or use the included USB cable, its entirely up to you. One caveat that was found during setup is trying to get the printer installed on Windows 11. Make sure to install the Universal drivers and not the full software suite. After several attempts to get the full software suite installed failed, the simple solution was to install the universal drivers to print. The print quality of the HP LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdw is on par with most of the business copiers out there. Its like having that Toshiba Studio Copier at home with less of a footprint.

Great printer!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This printer was so easy to set up! It had instructions on how to easily get it out of the box then remove a few pieces of tape, add paper and turn it on. I ran through the initial setup fairly quickly, set up its Wi-Fi connection and then, voila! It was ready to go! The only other thing I did (because I despise WSD connections) is to set the IP as static as I have done on every HP Printer I've owned over the years. This is so that it doesn't keep failing to print or on a computer, I will have them disappear from the printer list on connected computers, if I don't do this. I also change the port from WSD from that automatic connection to the IP address I set to static. I never have connection issues when printing after these steps. The first print was so fast, I thought it had failed. I pulled out the paper and flipped it over and there was a crisp and clean network configuration page! I then grabbed my husband's phone which is notorious for not finding and being able to print to our other wireless printers. I pulled up a file and printed it with no issues and the image in it was gorgeous! I'm very happy to have this printer. It's fast and does great B&W prints. This is a great printer with easy setup!

Full featured black and white printer...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wow, great quality and all of the features you would want or need from a printer besides maybe color. The setup is extremely easy and works with other newer HP printer software easily. You can print to the printer using the network through a cabled connection, a wireless connection, or bluetooth from your PC or your phone. The built in screen is easy to use and is very familiar if you have a newer full function HP printer. I love the quality of this printer and the fact it does so much and you can load paper for printing from or to in so many different ways. I don't have a home phone line to text faxes from these days but can use the rest of the features. It was such a high quality print. I will say that the cartridges for such a pretty print don't come cheap but you may be able to find a deal or if you need this quality then dare I say the cost is worth the cost of the ink. I would say that if your print outs need to make an impression and you don't need color then you can't go wrong with this printer. It is a little heavy for a printer but that is a testiment to the product and what is in it. I would highly recommend this printer to home and small or medium businesses.

HP Laser Jet That Does It All For Home and Work
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Whether you are looking at back-to-school needs or have a small business, you may be looking for a new laser printer to help you increase your productivity. With the LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdw Laser Printer from HP, you have a very powerful printer at your disposal. Setting this printer up is quite easy. You get it out of the box, plug it in, and you are ready to go. It is a little harder than that but not much. There is some packing tape to remove once you pull it out of the box. A nice feature though is that you don’t have to put the laser cartridge into the printer. The cartridge is preloaded and ready to go. You do have three options to connect to your computer or network. First you can connect via Wi-Fi. You will have to input the Wi-Fi password into the system (the input display screen is not big, and the letters are small). Another option to connect is directly though an Ethernet connection (Ethernet cable not included). The last option is directly to your computer through a USB connection, but the connection cable is included. Either way you choose does not affect performance. It is just a matter of which method you prefer. If you go with Wi-Fi, the printer can even correct problems before you notice them. The printer will look for the best connection and switch to keep you productive. The computer setup is just as easy. Whether with a Mac or a Windows PC, just go to the add printer section. The printer should be recognized. Once you say to add the printer, the software will download, and you should be ready. This printer also works with mobile devices. You can print directly from an iPhone. Once you select the document to print, the printer should be available. No extra downloads are required to print this way. The printer even comes preconfigured to settings to make things easier. To use all the features properly with your computer, you will need to sign into the HP Smart tool. If you have an HP printer, you probably have this app already. You still need to set up the printer here. Otherwise, you will have to create an account and sign into it. I am not a big fan of this, but it just comes with the territory so to speak. You will need it though for scanning and other features. Now that I have gotten through all of that, I will talk about performance. This printer must be the fastest laser jet printer I have ever used. With most printers, it seems when you hit print, the printer must think about what it is doing. It must wake up, you hear its gears make some sounds, and then it prints. This is not the case here. You hit print and before you get to the printer, the job is done. The printer prints at 42 pages per minute so even large documents are done quickly. While this printer would certainly work for a college student, this would work great in a business environment. The duty cycle for this printer is 80,000 pages. This means that you could print 80,000 pages per month without the printer failing. Also, you can set up the printer to work from any computer. I have mine set up to work with 10 computers in my house, and it works just as well with any of them. The print quality is great. It can print at a resolution up to 1200 x 1200 although that is not needed on most documents. This is only a black and white printer, but for most jobs, that will be fine. The scanner is very easy to use. You have the choice to scan directly from the glass or you can use a document feeder. The document feeder can handle 50 pages or more and will do double sided scanning. There aren’t many jobs that this scanner will not be able to handle. You can fax with this all-in-one as well. It does even have the ability to hook up to a standard phone line if you still have one, that is. In conclusion, I highly recommend the HP – Laser Jet Pro MFP 4101fdw Wireless Bland and White All-in-One Laser Printer. The printer is the fastest laser jet printer I have used. No job is too big or too small for it. The ease of setup, great quality printing, smooth scanning, and the ability to use with all my computers make it ideal for home or office.

Fast, High Quality Laser with Duplex Scanning
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The LaserJet Pro MFP 4101fdw is a fast laser printer with excellent print quality and some helpful features! Design The design is a pretty standard design for a laser MFP but I do want to point of a few things that I really liked. Tray 1 is a fold down tray that can take a stack of paper (up to 100 sheets). You can size the width in case you want to use it for 4x6 paper, an envelope, or something else. It's very easy to work with and seemed to function very well, not grabbing two pages at a time or having any other issues. Tray 2 (up to 250 sheets) is a pretty standard, slide-out, bottom tray, that you would expect to see on this type of laser printer. I was very glad to see that some of the internal components on this are metal, instead of it being all plastic on the inside as it seems is more common. I love the fact that the front of tray 2 has a mechanical indicator that shows you how much paper is left in it! The printer doesn't even need to be turned on and you can get an idea of how much paper it has. I wish all printers had that! I used the printer on WiFi but it does have an ethernet port and a USB port as well. Oh, and it faxes too! Setup Unboxing and setting up the printer is simple. It was easy to lay the box on its side and slide the printer out. I setup the printer to use in Windows 11, on a Chromebook, and on my phone. For Windows, I like to setup networked printers with a static IP address. I was able to download the "Basic Driver" or "Driver Only" v4 version of the printer driver from the HP driver download page for the 4101fdw as well as the "Universal Scan Driver", Full Featured driver for scanning. Using those I was able to setup the printer exactly how I wanted. I also setup printing from the Chromebook and it was very easy. I didn't download any drivers but went into the printer setup on the Chromebook, it found the printer, and it just worked. My experience on my Android 12 phone was similar. I already had the HP Print Service and HP Smart apps installed on my phone and I was able to add the 4101 very easily. Print Quality I figured all lasers have excellent print quality. I looked closely at some text and graphics and it looked great. But I did notice something that surprised me, in a good way. In my testing, I printing 13 pages of text, duplexed, and with 4 pages to 1 - so each page was printing in 1/4 of a 8.5x11 page. I did the exact same printout with, as far as I could see identical settings, on this printer and a second laser printer. Somehow, that small text on the 4101, had darker text, with the top of the text, every line on every page, more bold and fully formed than the same text on the other laser. So this basically pointed out to me how sharp and dark the text is on the 4101 and how evenly printed the text is, even at a small scale. Print Speed The 4101 is one of the faster, if not the fastest, small scale laser that I've used. It really pumps out pages fast. It seemed so fast, I had to check the info on it and see what they claim. Apparently it does up to 42 pages per minute! I wasn't printing any draft or low quality jobs so I probably didn't even see that - and I went through a lot of paper testing already, but that confirmed to me that this thing is fast! Scanning First of all, I was very happily surprised to find out it supports duplex scanning! So you can put a stack of double sided pages in the feeder on top, up to 50 sheets, and it will scan both sides, if you want, in one pass. In case you were wondering, even though it's a black and white printer, it does scan color. The scan quality was excellent from what I could tell. Keep in mind different scan applications offer different quality. I downloaded the HP Scan and Capture app from the Microsoft Store (free but only works with an HP Scanner) from HPs web site and that allows scanning at up to 1200 dpi. Some other scan apps I used only went up to 300dpi. So if you are limited to 300dpi, it's not the 4101 limiting you. Use a different app. Summary This is a fast printer with great print quality! In a world where printers seem to be built cheaper and cheaper it seems to have better build quality too! If you're looking for a feature rich, black and white, laser MFP, you should consider the 4101!

A Good Combination of Laser and Office Jet
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HP-LaserJet Pro MFP 4101 fdw all-in-one wireless printer is a real winner. Right out of the box, this compact laser jet printer offers its user the characteristics of true laser jet printing, necessary and required in a busy and productive office for fast printing times plus high quantity production, but also the characteristics of an all in one office jet machine that has an automatic doc feeder so the user can also easily scan and copy documents, plus fax, too. The contents inside the box are the printer, the toner cartridge, already loaded in its compartment, a USB cable, power cord, and a getting set up guide, a warranty guide, etc. This machine is about 30 pounds and has a compact design so as to be low profile- about 16" wide, 12" deep, and 12" tall, thereby taking up less real estate on a desk or other cluttered work surface. I am a CPA by trade and my tax preparation software necessitates a laser jet printer that is quick and efficient. Many returns are easily over a hundred pages and I simultaneously run several printers so that I can be printing continuously for more efficient production. I have relied on HP LaserJet printers for well over 20 years in my business, and I can tell you that when a printer goes down it is a nightmare. I am amazed at how substantially the cost and the size of these current LaserJet and all-in-one LaserJet printers have gone down over the years. Now, with this model we have an option of an all-in-one. You are first instructed to use the large, clear plastic bag that the machine is wrapped in to literally drag the printer out of its box. The user is then instructed to remove all the pieces of orange, plastic tape that the manufacturer has placed in key areas to secure those potentially movable parts that might open and be damaged during shipping, such as the paper tray, the flat top, and other areas. I then went thru the few set up requests on the LCD screen on the machine such as language, Wi-Fi password, etc., that part literally done in minutes and the Wi-Fi connect was seamless. By the way, since I am using this in my office on a desktop, I went to HP’s website to download the appropriate software and drivers for this machine that then allows you to scan and fax, printing was already happening by what I did on the LCD screen. It took a little time to get it figured out, but I was successful in scanning using the software on the computer to direct the process, as well as, getting the scanning process to work from being initiated from the LCD screen-that was a little harder to get going. There is a toll free number to call HP for customer service in the USA/Canada. . Overall, what I really like is the 42 ppm speed, the readable size of the LCD touchscreen on the machine, the amount of pages allowed in the paper tray, and the good amount of pages that can be placed in the auto document feeder for scanning or copying functions or faxing. This specific printing machine has been linked to my HP smartphone app that allows wide latitude for functionality. I think this machine is well worth the price.

Large 150 page output tray is also great since we are gone over the weekends but might receive 100+ pages worth of faxes over the course of a Saturday and Sunday. Also has a massive 50 sheet automatic document feeders (ADF) for scanning and copying multiple page documents. Security Features: PIN/pull option authenticates print jobs to only when you're present. Easily set configuration policies and validate settings universally with the included HP Security Manager. This is a wonderful and often overlooked feature to help protect sensitive data and prevent unauthorized access. User-Friendly Interface: LaserJet Pro printers all utilize the HP smart app with a super intuitive control panel and easy-to-use interface. Makes setting up, mobile printing, and managing print jobs a breeze. Mobile Printing: With the HP Smart app this unit supports mobile printing options like printing/scanning directly from smartphones and tablets. Again, streamlining work and increasing efficiency all around. Toner Efficiency: Laser printers are known for their efficient use of toner, which can lead to lower long-term operating costs compared to inkjet printers. This unit comes with an original HP toner cartridge rated for a 2,900 page duty cycle. I’ve not yet been through that many to test but I’m well over 1,000 pages and still going strong. Overall I would highly recommend this AIO to anyone with a very busy household or small office. It's ease of use, functionality and speed are all great assets that my team appreciates everyday.

I'm no longer jealous of my wife's work printer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My wife and me both work from home full time. Last year two giant boxes show up on the front door and it turns out her company has sent her an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw all-in-one and what appears to be a decade worth of toner cartridges for the thing for her to use along with several reams of paper. She’s an auditor and she prints and scans a TON of documents each week. I’m not allowed to use the printer because it’s a company resource, not a family resource to share, but over the last year the thing is absolutely rock solid and just plain works. We had a few technical snafus associated with how I do VLANs and getting the printer connected to her work computer but those were quickly sorted with her IT department and all is well. Anyway my point here is that I’ve always wanted one of these things for my own printing purposes but I’ve never needed the color printing. So along comes the MFP 4101fdw and for all practical purposes it’s the exact same printer without color. Score! If you’re committing to this type of printer you don’t care much about saving desk space you just want a workhorse that will print quick sharp looking black and white documents without much fuss and HP has you covered there. All the basic functions of a printer/scanner just function so beyond a nice quick print quality I have nothing to add beyond taking a look at the spec sheet and saying that yeah, this all looks great. Where I do have to caution you though if you are considering this printer are a few technical points. First, this printer supports Wireless or Wired printing but not both at the same time. This is not a new thing, HP printers have been like this for a long time but I was hoping that they would have resolved this by now. I had hoped to dual-home this thing to allow me to print from two different VLANS, one wired and one wireless but the printer is not capable of doing this using the built-in wireless or wired adapters. The printer does support AirPrint so it will allow me to solve this problem using AirPrint so it’s not the end of the world for my use case but something to be aware of. Second, the continued dependance of HP on their “HP Smart” app as an attempt to simplify the setup and using of their printers continues to disappoint. The HP Printers come with their own web server for administration and the HP Smart app uses an iFrame to render the local web server in the HP Smart App which is dumb, because there’s no back button, there’s no reload, and worse, when the internal web server needs to redirect to another website the process just fails because the iframe can’t handle it. I found myself cursing HP on multiple occasions while trying to get this printer connected to the HP Instant Ink program.
