Works well but should it do more?

Works well but should it do more? Overall, it’s a compact nicely styled “entry” level “all in one” model competitively priced. But I am left with the feeling that it should do/be more. If you can get by with one paper tray and manual 2 sided copying it should do nicely though. I give it a “soft” 4 stars. In the box are; Instructions (basic) Power cord about 4 feet. It has no cumbersome brick, but is not low profile where it plugs into printer (not 90 degree). 4 toner cartridges (black, cyan, magenta and yellow Wireless (b/g/n/), ethernet and usb connections. Has USB and Ethernet for direct connections, but does NOT include a cable for either. Phone in/out jacks for fax – which I did not test/use. For more exact specs visit https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06291599#AbT12 Total dimensions 18.11” width, 9.17” height (closed) 18 inches open, 20.13” depth and weight of about 18 lbs. Fairly compact for an all in 1. Usage; Was easily unpacked as not a lot of tape, etc. to go thru. Easy to follow step by step instructions and was unpacked with ink installed within 10 minutes. Easy access to print cartridges. I downloaded the HP smart and doctor software to my desktop before setting up wifi. Just followed the steps to add to my wifi and was ready to go. Smart software found the printer and was ready to go in minutes. Since printer is connected using wifi I was worried if my desktop would “find” the printer as it is connected to my home network using ethernet cable – but it works fine. You can access product info by selecting help within HP smart software. It also has built in help info using the touchscreen on the printer. Has a decent size color touchscreen (2 inch by 1.5 inch) that can be tilted for easier viewing. You can do a lot of adjustments using the touchscreen and it is pretty intuitive. Tray has stated 225 paper sheet capacity and 10 for envelops. Every time I opened the tray, I received an alert stating what paper was loaded and whether I wanted to change it. I found this a nice feature to make sure you have printer set to correct paper source. Also, I tried to print the printer statistics while I had 5 x 7 paper loaded and printer gave me an error message that the paper was not correct and would not print. This is nice so you don’t waste expensive photo paper accidentally. I found the duplex printing to be fairly fast whether using greyscale or color, but printing would pause occasionally indicating it was waiting for paper to dry. 2-sided copying can be done but not using the automatic feeder. You must manually put page on the scanner tray – then press copy. It will scan and print that page – you then must manually turn the document over to other side on the scanner tray and hit copy again. It will then print 2nd side of the page. The touchscreen gives you prompts and allows you to select color/black, draft/normal, etc. The final print quality very closely matched the original but it is a manual process. I contacted HP support and they verified this as I didn’t want to state process incorrectly. Scanning worked well producing pretty accurate replication. Also has adjustments for resolution, size, etc. Speed is dependent somewhat on the resolution you select. In all cases I found the text and pictures printed to be crisp and clear with no smudging even if using lowest resolution and ink saving option(s). Using 5 x 7 HP photo paper and maximum resolution I was VERY happy with the pictures printed. Also, printer is fairly quiet and quickly wakes from sleep mode when sent something to print. Software; For computer; HP Smart. Gives you access to settings, help, etc. This latest version is its best so far HP Print Doctor. Helps and walks you thru fixing printer problems such as offline, no printer shown, etc. I used this to get rid of a document I cancelled but was still showing up in the printer queue. For phone (android in my case); HP Smart. Works well with many print options as well as sources (your phone, google, etc.). You are supposed to be able to use Google, Alexa and Apple Beacon. I did not try any of these, so can’t speak to them. 1-year warranty. Quibbles; No USB input port to print directly from flash drive. Only 1 paper tray. Manual 2-sided copying. Print output tray sticks out a tad. I had become increasing frustrated with ink jet printers over the last few years due to what I considered to be terrible build quality, bad software as well as the cost of the ink. It seemed I was constantly having to re-install the software as the printer would not activate after going “off line”. Or I was wasting a lot of time, ink and paper, needing to constantly “clean” the heads - as they had dried since my last printing. Hopefully this won’t be the case with this printer with its Officejet (thermal inkjet) technology as it is supposed to help mitigate the need for constantly cleaning dried ink heads. Only time will tell if this new HP will not suffer from these maladies, as well. I will give updates.

Easy to set up and simple to use. Came with 6 months hp cartridge supply option which made the purchase totally worth it. Printing speed is fast and I like that you can scan from your phone easily. A must have for professionals who need print outs while working from home as well as for day to day needs.

Replaced an older HP 6520 series that worked well for years but had been giving me trouble at the end, This printer was easy to set up and connect to my network, and have had no trouble printing from a PC or wireless tablets or phones. Also easy to scan/email documents to PC.

This printer works very well but you must download the HP app prior to installing. This is not a simple plug and play device. Once you have the HP app installed, set up and usability is easy.

Purchased this printer as a replacement to another brand. I have 2 grand kids doing remote schooling and needed a reliable printer. Prints great and love the touch screen display of the functions. I like the HP ink program too. You'll never run out of ink and it's cheaper than buying cartridges. It also gets shipped directly to your house.

EASY to set up, and to use. Now I can print directly from my iphone and from my laptop, regardless which room I am in the house. I love it! I even had a HP All-in-one for my notary work, and that worked for over 10 years. Hence my new HP printer again. Even my husband was impressed at how effortless it was to set up and use.

I' struggling to finish the set up of the printer. Creating a PDF and sending to email is easy, getting the printer to send a PDF directly to the laptop is a mission, and I have not been able to get this going yet. Printing quality is very good
