Intrusive & Annoying HP Ink Cartridge Monitoring

The printer is ok. But HP's new policy of monitoring the ink cartridges you insert is needlessly intrusive & annoying. Also, the printer wasn't going into sleep mode, so I spent > 1 hour on the phone with HP support. If you're into the convenience of HP monitoring your ink levels & automatically sending new replacement cartridges as part of their subscription ink service, you will enjoy.

No manual or detailed instructions included. Input and output trays extremely hard to pull out and push back in. They appear to be fragile as though they would break easily.

This is absolutely the worst printer I have ever purchased. From the time I set it up, it has been a huge fail. It grabs multiple sheets of paper at a time in the feeder. It jams with printer paper constantly despite “ruffling”. It will not scan an entire document because the feeder pulls in four pages at once no matter how ruffled you make the stack. Most recently it refuses to print because it says my ink cartridge is defective. The exact ink cartridge I purchased directly from HP. I’ve tried taking it out and reseating it, but no, it refuses to print. When I look at it I get an “Office Space” urge to take it out back and beat it with a baseball bat. The failure has been a recurring experience with HP printers, and I’ll never buy another one. I bought an Epson printer for my mother 6 years ago, and it’s still plugging along. She prints a lot because she’s still super locked into having paper in her hands to read and save. I’ve had this HP for 9 months. I should’ve returned it the first month, so my mistake. It’s never worked right, HP customer support is a farce, so I just purchased an Epson today. I might stick this HP out in the rain that’s coming tonight I’m so disgusted with it. Stay far away from this printer if you value a stress free printing product, excellent customer support, and a real warranty! This HP product has none of those things.

While yes, eventually you'll get it to print, it's a total pain to setup. Once upon a time you could just plug a printer in, or, just add it to your wireless network. Even with the HP smart app, it was a royal PITA to get it setup and ready to go. Otherwise, yes, it prints. A bit more pricey than similar printers because supposedly it comes with more ink, that's to be determined.

I had loaded up on ink for my previous printer(office jet pro 6978) which is discontinued by H.P..Stuck with unused ink cartridges.I blame this on H.P. If a product is discontinued there should be some options such as another printer which uses the same ink,so we do not have to throw the ink away.Shame on H.P. Since they discontinued a product they should do the right thing and accept unused ink for refund. I guess no one ever taught H.P.to do the right thing This will no doubt influence my future purchases from H.P.

We do not abuse our printers. we print scan and fax maybe once or twice a week. After owning several HP printers over the last 15-20 years decided to go with an Epson. After paying a premium price for the Epson, that turned out to be a mistake as just after the warranty was up the printer started making a loud error tone that wouldn't stop unless turned off. After days of trying called tech support and their solution was just to ignore it! LOL! Decided to go back to Hp printer and found this one. The good: Setup was a snap. We set up as wired and the app automatically loaded and all the functions are on the front page of app. We print mostly black and white and it does a good job. The Bad: Print speed is slow. Ink runs out to fast. Even though we print mostly black and white we are on our 3 set of cartridges since around Thanksgiving of 2019. Bought the XL black cartridge this time so we shall see how long it lasts. Scanning is ok as can be done from the glass or document feeder. The preview scan is not very good, The fax is horrible the one feature we use alot. Every time we want to fax we must restart the printer which takes a few minutes as the printer has to check itself. The touch screen is horrible just way to small and I have to keep a stylus pen next to the printer to use the screen. The screen is also way to sensitive and almost every time I have to hit the back button even using the stylus pen to touch the screen. I would not buy this printer again. I still like HP printers but will spend more next time for a larger touch screen.

      Hi there.

Thanks for the review and the feedback. While I’m glad you’ve had good experience with HP printers in the past and you found this one easy to set up, I’m sorry to hear the printer is rendering prints so slowly and performing unreliably with the fax function. I can understand why your experience has been frustrating, so I’ll offer some resources and information I hope will help.

First, I recommend you go through this guide to resolving fax problems:
