Worst printer I've ever had
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Didn't know when I bought it that it does not print two sided. Also, it prints very dark and uses a lot of ink and I can't adjust it. Takes several minutes after printing before returning to main screen. For about 5 minutes after printing or copying, the screen still says "printing" or "copying". Same if you cancel something. I wish I bought another Brother printer.

Posted .Hi there.
I’m sorry to hear that your printer has not performed like it should. It’s easy to understand why the lack of duplex printing, ink-use issues and unexpected delays after print jobs would be tremendously frustrating, so I’ll point you toward some resources and provide some information I hope will help.
First, the manual for this printer indicates that it does support automatic two-sided printing. You can find that manual by following this link:
- www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06291141
If the duplex function does not work, I suggest you visit a page on our support site that has diagnostic tools for various problems. There you’ll find a general-purpose tool called the HP Print and Scan Doctor. If you use Windows, the tool will help identify and guide you through solutions to a wide range of common printing and scanning issues. Visit that page here:
- support.hp.com/us-en/topic/diagnostics
If the problem persists, and for input on the delays and ink use, I suggest that you contact us directly at +1 800-474-6836 so we can help you assess the situation and guide you through any applicable troubleshooting. (Please note that because of restrictions on personal movement and workplace attendance associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, wait times for agents are longer than normal. Thanks in advance for your understanding.) To expedite the process, I recommend gathering the following information before the call:
- Model number
- Serial number
- Your location
- Case number (from any previous contact with HP support)
I'll also mention that HP printers have a one-year warranty from their purchase date that covers hardware as well as ink supplies, so if it comes to that, you might consider making use of it. You can verify the warranty using the following link: support.hp.com/us-en/checkwarranty

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unboxing this printer revealed one of most innovate packaging ideas I’ve seen in a long time. After opening the tape that seals the top cover of the box, you find the printer is wrapped in plastic surrounded by two styrofoam holders that keep it centered in the box, exactly what you would expect with a device of this kind. Traditionally you squat awkwardly as you reach into the box and start trying to perform yoga-origami with your fingers trying to figure out where you can grab the printer from and apply the necessary pressure to pull it out of the box without breaking the printing tray and without your hands slipping off the plastic so that the device doesn’t crash to the floor. In some cases you might flip the box over, gently and let gravity pull it out of the box. When suction and gravity are in a tug of war, reverting to cutting the 4 corners of the box is another method that can have varying degrees of success. But with this printer, HP has introduced handles in the plastic wrapping. Imaging a plastic shopping bag. It’s brilliant and amazing. It’s the same feeling you would get seeing it the first time that you would feel if the cereal box companies began using Ziplock bags instead of that not-resealable junk they use now. It just makes so much sense your mind is blown. If they put this much engineering into the packaging, the rest of the experience should be amazing right? It was until I got to the ink. Of the 4 ink cartridges that were included with the box, only 1 of them managed to maintain its label after all but breaking my fingers trying to get the orange plastic ink shield removed. It’s not rocket science to match up the yellow ink to the yellow tray holder but this is the first time I get to open the lid and see unlabeled cartridges. It’s a minor detail but my OCD kicked into high gear when this happened to 3 of the 4. My OCD boiled over the edge when I tried to remove the sticker covering the USB-cable input port on the back of the unit and the paper tore into 4 sticky sections that stuck to the edges of the port requiring a flat head screwdriver and some serious scraping to get the sticker off the port. Once plugged into the wall and positioned properly on my desk my OCD returned to normal levels and it was time for the setup process to begin. The setup process starts from the HP App on the smart phone, in my case an iPhone and the printer uses Bluetooth to establish a connection, then sends the wifi credentials stored on the phone to the printer. From there you go through a round of “Do you want to sign up for HP Instant Ink,” Login to your HP account,” Print and scan a calibration page, and you are off and running. The touch screen on the device is large enough to prevent squinting but small enough to not get in the way of everything else you do with this printer. My two Windows 10 desktop computers are already running HP printers so the Windows Store app HP Print was already installed on both. It was surprising that PC1 found the printer installed the driver and was printing in under a minute. PC2 tried using Direct Connect and asked for a Pin number, which is found by lifting up the scanning tray (like you are loading an ink cartridge) which was not what I was expecting, but eventually it installed as well and it was time to start printing. The unit prints quickly (20 pages per minute (ppm) or 10ppm for color). On nothing-special 8.5 x 11 paper that is not HP branded, blacks are solid but I found a yellowish tint when printing a few photos from the iPhone. The problem went away when I printed the same photo from the desktop. More experimentation will be required before I can explain that one. HP+ Instant Ink is the last thing to bring up as it’s the most concerning. On the surface this program sounds great: your printer sends an alert to HP when the ink is almost out and a new cartridge shows up in your physical mailbox ready to go before you run out of ink. The concern is that HP printers have a history of reporting Out-of-Ink warnings far earlier than are necessary. HP charges more than every other vendor for ink, guaranteeing that you’ll be paying a premium for inks. Many of my family and friends have stopped buying printers altogether because they found taking photos to CVS or Walmart is far more economical than paying for ink refills, and these printing services provide higher quality photos from their commercial grade equipment. When signing up for HP+, in the legal terms of service consumers are agreeing to only use HP genuine inks for the life of the printer. Supportability aside, given the cost of ink, many consumers are opting for far less expensive 3rd party ink solutions and this cost should part of your decision making when looking into HP printers. What the HP+ program does not define is what exactly happens when you discontinue participation in the program. From the language written in the sign up, it’s hard to tell anything specific except that your credit card will no longer be charged for new inks. If you are a consumer that chooses convenance over cost than HP+ is a great candidate for you. For the rest of us its something I’ll be closely monitoring over the length of my 6 month trial.

Cheaply Made
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What a poor HP Printer. The tray is cheap and flimsy. The "tray" that prints come out onto is not long enough for a page to fit flat - they ben up. The print tray does not adjust inside to fit paper snuggly so it pulls multiple pages at once and jams up right away. There is no way to pull paper jams out (no back door). HP doesn't even have the proper support documents to lead you thru set up steps properly.

Unreliable disappointment - avoid this printer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Disappointed! This printer worked for about a day. Half the time it won't connect, or if you are able to print, it's a blurry mess. Tried to run maintenance steps, which after 3 sheets depleted all the toner. HP should have indicated that it basically came with no toner at all. This is our first HP printer and I would not buy another HP printer after this experience.

Posted .Hi, Daisy.
I’m sorry to learn that you feel misled by the Instant Ink offer that was part of your printer purchase. I can certainly understand why a subscription would seem like a disappointing surprise if you were not expecting it. I want to help you learn more about Instant Ink and the options you have. I hope the information below reaches that end.
Instant Ink is a printing plan in which you choose the number of pages you would like to print monthly. Replacement cartridges are shipped as needed based on usage. Instant Ink cartridges contain more ink than cartridges you could buy at a retailer, so they last longer. Your offer was for six months free enrollment, after which you’d be billed on a monthly interval. That said, customers who find that it’s not the most convenient option can cancel whenever they like and return to buying ink from their preferred retailers.

Software doesn't see the printer, no manual setup
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HP Smart software is terrible! I tried using it from 2 different computers, neither one sees the printer. HP no longer gives you the ability to do a manual setup, how stupid is that? The printer control panel sits on a window telling you get the HP Software to do the setup, that's NOT very helpful! That would be great if it worked. This is going back to BestBuy.
