It wasn't broken, why fix it?

Every new printer I buy from HP lists the same features that have been available for years, but somehow becomes harder to set up, harder to fix, and harder to use. Scan to email was a really nice feature on our old HP printer before it bit the dust, and made it easy for non-tech-savvy family members to scan without dealing with the ancient Windows Fax and Scan (which can't make PDFs), the buggy Windows Scan (often crashed while scanning from my old printer's feeder), or the increasingly bloated official HP app that suddenly needs a login to provide...the same services. This new printer has scan to email too, but after hours of searching HP's own manuals, settings pages, and forums, I can't even enable it. Frankly, the only truly "new" feature here seems to be whatever HP+ is. To me, it seems to be another gimmicky marketing name for the same old features, but with a twist of "dynamic security" purely designed to restrict users from using their printers if they dare to use "non-official" ink cartridges. I admit I rarely bother using third-party/second-hand cartridges, but putting additional hardware into the printer (AND cartridges) just to make sure your cartridges are guaranteed to go to a landfill instead of getting reused is shamefully wasteful. I'll do my best to get this thing working out of spite (maybe with an angry phone call to HP for good measure) because it prints fine, is a good deal for the features it offers (like double-sided printing), and visually looks much nicer than many others I saw. However, I can't in good conscience recommend this printer to anyone who needs to scan things and doesn't have the time or patience to deal with HP's mess. I have no idea if other manufacturers are better right now...but I've had my best luck in the past just waiting for a decent used printer to show up somewhere instead.

      Hi there.

I’m sorry to hear that your new printer has caused you such inconvenience. I can wholly understand why the inability to make the scan-to-email function work after lengthy research and troubleshooting – not to mention the general difficulty of use that you describe – would be an absolutely confounding start to owning a device. I would love to help you get the scan function working like it should and help you have an overall better experience with the device, so I’ll suggest some resources aimed at getting you there.

First, to learn more about your printer and all its features, or for help solving problems, you can access a setup tutorial, user manuals, how-to documents, software updates and troubleshooting guides here:
      - support.hp.com/us-en/product/model/37934576

You can also visit a page on our support site that has diagnostic tools for various tasks and issues, including cartridge installation and connectivity. There you’ll also find a general-purpose tool called the HP Print and Scan Doctor. If you use Windows, the tool will help identify and guide you through solutions to a wide range of common printing and scanning issues. Visit that page here:
      - support.hp.com/us-en/topic/diagnostics

You can learn more about the benefits of HP+ printers by following this link:

I can’t tell from your review why the scan-to-email function has not worked like it should, so I suggest that you contact us directly at +1 800-474-6836 so we can help you assess what’s happening and find a solution. (Please note that because of restrictions on personal movement and workplace attendance associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, wait times for agents are longer than normal. Thanks in advance for your understanding.) To expedite the process, I recommend gathering the following information before the call:

Yes, it prints and scans, but this product has been so dramatic and difficult to work with. Every couple of print jobs something seems to go wrong. One minute the faxes aren't printing clearly, and the next minute the automatic document feeder doesn't detect the document is loaded. Worst of all, we've been stuck with a false paper jam error message that dings every 20 seconds it seems like, and it won't go away no matter what we do! Honestly, in an office setting, this has not been a good purchase for us.

      Hi there.

I’m sorry to hear that your printer has performed so erratically. It’s no surprise you’re so discouraged, considering you’ve endured poor print quality, a malfunctioning feeder and a paper jam error that persists even though no paper is jammed. I want to help you resolve this situation, so I’ll provide a resource and some information that I hope will make that happen.

I can’t tell from your review what’s causing these problems or whether they’re related to one another. I recommend that you contact us directly so we can help you assess the situation and find the best course of action. HP+ printers such as yours come with exclusive concierge support. To call and reach live HP+ experts, visit the following URL and enter your HP+ serial number:

I'll also mention that HP printers have a one-year warranty from their purchase date that covers hardware as well as ink supplies – and that warranty extends to two years with an HP+ account – so if it comes to that, you might consider making use of it. You can verify the warranty using the following link:

This printer has been a disappointment. It has trouble staying connected to wifi, the paper tray is flimsy and does not feed the paper through straight sometimes and the ink runs out so fast. And when the ink is running low the color quality is terrible. Also the instant refills are not so instant.

The scanner part of this printer is USELESS.

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Very bare bones for an all-in-one printer. The scanner will NOT scan double-sided. You have to turn it over and scan it again. What is this 1990? Also, when scanning a document, the max resolution is 300. You need 600 to create a good PDF document. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRINTER!!! The HP Smart software they tell you to install is incredibly simplistic and only allows you to change a few settings. The scanner part of this printer is USELESS. I had to buy a separate scanner anyway,

    Very disappointed

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Very disappointed with the quality of this printer. I bought this for my home use where I do not print very frequently. After not printing for about 2 weeks, colors were missing from the printed pages which is normal for inkjet printers but what was not normal, they did not easily get cleaned using the printer built-in utility and the Cyan color is totally dead now after wasting a lot of ink trying to clean the PrintHead. Luckily I am still within manufacturer warranty and going through the painful process of replacing it right now.

      Hi there.

I’m sorry to hear that your printer started rendering prints of poor quality after you stopped printing for two weeks. I can understand why a nonfunctional cyan cartridge even after using the printer’s built-in cleaning utility would be quite a jarring surprise, so I’ll offer some information and resources that I hope will help.

HP has identified a manufacturing issue on specific production lots of supplies that can affect print quality, cause a cartridge-recognition error or both. HP recently released new firmware to help protect your printer from this.

You can resolve the problem by following the steps below:

      1. Visit our official support site: support.hp.com
      2. In the section called “Identify your product for manuals and specific product information” insert your printer’s serial number and click “submit.”
      3. Scroll down and click the tile with “Are you having print quality issues or getting an incompatible cartridge message?”
      4. Proceed as instructed.

If you need further assistance, I suggest that you contact us directly at +1 800-474-6836 so we can help you assess the situation and find a solution. (Please note that because of restrictions on personal movement and workplace attendance associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, wait times for agents are longer than normal. Thanks in advance for your understanding.) To expedite the process, I recommend gathering the following information before the call:

      - Model number
