More like a tablet
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I could not use this product because it did not support what I needed. I must use a CAC reader for work and there are no USB ports. But the "laptap" was very pretty!

Piece of Garbage
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pure garbage. Touch screen and pen have completely stopped working. I have tried every single solution suggested by HP, Microsoft etc... Nothing has worked. Of course this happened right after the warranty expired as well. What a complete waste of money. Never purchase an HP product. I rarely use this laptop and it is in perfect, like-new condition aside from this issue.

Beautiful design, solid performance
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.HP Spectre Review Overview With this latest in the Spectre line, HP has hit on a winning combination of style, power, versatility, and usability at a competitive price point. Pros - Attractive and innovative design wrapped in a leather finish which looks good, feels good, and protects the laptop. - 8th generation Intel i7 CPU delivers solid performance for most computing tasks and light gaming - Beautiful 1080p 13” IPS display is big enough to do work and enjoy media. - Innovative design allows use as a true laptop while still allowing options for tablet style use. - Good keyboard feel and backlighting - Solid battery life and no leakage in sleep mode - 3 USB C ports and a proper headphone jack - Pen included (and works well) Cons - Keyboard layout with home/pg up/pg dn/end keys on the far right may take some getting used to. - The GPU is fine for light 3D gaming, but won’t hold up to more demanding titles. - Track pad works well, but could be a little larger - The clever folding design that allows a tablet mode does limit the angle of the screen a little while in laptop mode. - Volume keys hard to reach when in tablet mode. - I’d ideally prefer less pre-installed software Design HP has crafted a truly attractive and comfortable laptop with this new Spectre. Whether you’re using the unit on your lap, on a table top, or folded into tablet or tent mode, this versatile unit is comfortable to use and works well. The design wrap the laptop in a leather look surround which looks and feels great. The cover is fully integrated into the laptop, including leather like material surrounding the track pad, providing a great feeling rest for wrists while typing. When closed, the laptop resembles a leather folio, making it easy to carry and safe to stuff into a bag or briefcase. Unlike many convertibles, this unit makes relatively few comprises when used as a laptop. I sometimes wished the screen would tilt a little further back, but overall it works very well as a laptop (better than the Surface Pro, which I love, but is less comfortable on the lap). There is a clever folding mechanism in the screen that allows it to fold up and then back down over the keyboard with the screen facing out. This allows a tablet mode of sorts, and also allows you to open the hinge a little to create a tent mode to keep the unit standing up on a table, bed, or your chest as you watch Netflix in bed. The keyboard is well spaced, nicely backlit, and has good travel and feel. The main drawback is that the home/pgup/pgdn/end keys are at the far right of the keyboard, so if you’re used to reaching to the far right to hit backspace or enter you may find yourself hitting home or pgdn instead. It’s something that one would adjust to after some use and the layout makes sense given the width of the unit. Overall, the execution feels high quality throughout and looks really great. Performance With 8GB of RAM and an 8th generation Intel Core i7 mobile CPU, performance for everything from web surfing, to Office apps, and even light gaming is exemplary. Good looking 3D games like World of Warships ran fine, but a more demanding title like State of Decay 2 needed a drop in resolution and still exhibited a low framerate which only the most dedicated would call playable. But this isn’t meant to be a gaming machine, and gaming performance was just fine for this class of laptop. It’s worth noting that at no time did I encounter fan noise. Battery life was also excellent, and this unit should easily get you through a day of mixed use. I tested brief and extended sleep periods and observed no material batter drain during sleep. After a few hours the machine will hibernate, which will result in zero battery usage until woken again. The 256GB SSD also performed well. Startup, software installation, and general usage were all quick. Display and Audio The 1920x1080 13” IPS display is bright, sharp, and a pleasure to use. There are certainly higher resolution displays out there, but this one makes for a good compromise of pixel density and performance. It also has the benefit of working well with all windows apps, including older ones that may not do as good a job of supporting high DPI displays. The built in Bang & Olufsen audio sounds clear and provides good volume, although bass is understandably limited and some minor distortion is evident at very high volumes. In general, these are some of the better laptop speakers that I’ve used, especially for units of this size. That said, there are two minor issues with the audio. First, the speakers sit above the keyboard, so when the display is folded to tablet mode, they are comewhat obstructed. It still works fine but isn’t ideal. Second, there is no dedicated volume button. Instead one uses volume keys mapped to the F6-F8 keys on the keyboard. This works fine in laptop mode, but in tablet or tent mode these keys are not accessible, so it’s difficult to adjust the volume. Other Items HP includes an entirely serviceable pen with the package, and I found it to smooth and lag free in my testing. I’m not sure it’s going to replace anybody’s Wacom digitizer, but for everyday use, sketching, signing documents, or taking notes, it works well and is a welcome inclusion. Connectivity is provided via three USB C ports (including at least one each side) and a proper headphone jack. The supplied charger supplies power via USB C as well and any USB C charger should work fine. A USB C to USB A dongle is included in the box. Summary Overall, I find this to be one of my favorite laptops overall. It’s quick, beautiful, comfortable to use, and features great battery life. The leather look construction is attractive, durable, and helps make this device a pleasure to use. If you’re looking for a compact device with some flare and enough power for anything short of high end gaming, this is a great one to have on your list.

Thin, lightweight, classy!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This folio is extremely thin and lightweight, rivaling other brands. I i7 processor is quick and responsive and the ram is sufficient for on the go computing. I've used this machine for over a week and am impressed with its function and utility. On looks, this folio wins. The metal parts of the machine are a cocoa brown metal, which is easy on the eyes. The unique feature is the leather case that it comes in, which looks very like a leather portfolio that holds a paper notepad for a meeting. Super nice feel on the wrists while typing and a slight extra cushioning as well. The screen is connected to the base at the middle back of the screen, allowing the user to easily tent it forward across the keyboard in a tilted table mode, or laid flat out across the keyboard for a flat on the table tablet.... The screen itself looks to be about a quarter-inch thin, but oh, so, sturdy and substantial feeling. It's a touch screen natch! Some of the thinness is aided by only having small ports for connecting things. It does come with an HDMI adapter to plug into the Thunderbolt port. Also a couple of small usb ports. But with wifi and bluetooth, the need for tons of ports is not as great. I have always been a fan of the HP touchpad and this time it's no different. Smooth and reliable action. The speakers are high end Bang & Olufsen, located north of the number keys. If you want loud, you can sure get loud with these speakers. I watched a movie on the screen while cooking dinner, with the screen in the tilt mode and felt the sound was just great. The final interesting piece is a powered stylus. I had a hard time understanding the instructions because they really didn't give any, which I think is odd for an $80 part! Surely they could have spent another two cents on paper to include some instructions, or have instructions online or on the computer! There were also two spare 'nibs' that I guess are to be used if you break the one inside the stylus? Dunno. Overall I give this folio a super high rating. Everything just seems to work effortlessly, from the keys to the screen to the style and weight. I really look forward to using it for a variety of uses.

Probably the best worst laptop I have owned
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am super disappointed at this laptop. It turn itself off every hour with no apparent reason. A lot of people are saying on the internet that it has battery issues. But from week one I have had issues, I thought it would fix itself with updates but never did. Now my wife is using it for work on a regular basis and it is just frustrating. I am taking it to best buy and see what can be done. But I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND .

Touch Screen no longer works after 18 months
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After 18 months the touchscreen no longer works. Both Microsoft and HP troubleshooted the issue and said it was a hardware issue. The laptop is in pristine condition. HP wants me to spend 500 dollars to send off for repairs. This was a very pricy laptop for 18 months of use. Very disappointed with HP.

Great battery, as long as that is your only need..
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The HP Spectre Folio is a beauty of a laptop. It has elegance, and is dripping with style. In your hands, it feels solid, and premium. All of that while nice, means absolutely nothing If you need something that has any kind of decent benchmarks. The Folio however, does not. It was put to shame by the 5 year old Acer laptop that I was replacing it with. It took me 2 days to return it after spending well over a thousand dollars. The most I had ever spent for a laptop. The only reason I went to the Folio was the orientation of the screen to the keyboard when in tablet mode. It folds down over the keyboard instead of folding behind it. I'm not even sure why we are still making convertable in the 360 format. That being said, the Folio has. Dual core processor, so dont plan on doing anything but watching a movie, or checking your email, and certainly not doing those at the same time. So buyer beware, unless you have the cash to waste, and an actual 2nd laptop to do all of your real work on.

HP took 1066$ and the product in repair center now
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this laptop in May 2020 as a gift for my wife as birthday gift. Now the product is in HP service center after 4 months. Covered under warranty, but they are asking one month time to repair it, due to spares issues, etc. Very disappointed.

Poor Design
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the design of this computer, but the way the leather is attached to the computer is cheap. With heat from your hands, the leather comes apart. I have had to super glue this computer to keep the leather together after the first 6 months of having it.

Poor quality
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Brand new and the mic did not function for months. Then after owning for 1.5 years, the laptop began to overheat and shut down during zoom calls. Both Best Buy and HP were unable to remedy the issue. Don't waste your money.

Well built capable laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a premium laptop starting right off at the packaging. The unit itself goes beyond a great box, thankfully. I have had about 4 weeks of usage and spoiler alert I can find only one thing wrong, the keyboard is not lighted.. It is something you don't notice much like how vacuum cleaner manufacturers stopped putting lights on the power heads until just recently they started again. I won't bore you by regurgitating the specs on this monster, they are widely published and you can surely find them on the Best Buy site and even compare to others. I was not sure about the leather case/cover as opposed to the normal aluminum casing. I however have grown used to it and now almost prefer it. The ability to flip the screen to a stand position and then into full tablet mode is awesome. That being said screen performance is excellent albeit a little sensitive to glare. Battery usage is excellent, I have been able to stream 3.5 plus hours of movies while multi-tasking. You are able to adapt any media/device thanks to the three USB c outlets and USB adapter that comes with the package. The AC adapter is compact 65 W with a three prong (grounded) plug and anti tangle sheathed cord to the laptop. Also included is a stylus which opens up this laptop to all sorts of creative abilities. Don't let the cover fool you, this is a great laptop. I would not hesitate to purchase over any other brand.
