A Worthy Competitor
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The computer feels and looks luxury with the all-metal build. the dark ash case, and the gold trim. It is a very sturdy device. The computer performs well in various presentation modes -- tablet, stand, tent, etc. The hinges are plenty strong enough to keep the screen in place in all the aforementioned modes. The laptop is also light enough to be held in one hand/arm, which makes tablet mode that much more enjoyable. The screen quality is gorgeous. 4K looks beautiful on the 13" screen, the colors are lush, and the picture sharp. Any viewing angle looks fantastic on this screen. When in tablet mode, the screen auto-rotates and can even be used in portrait mode, which is great for viewing documents. Also, using the 4K screen to wirelessly cast content from your phone to the computer via "Connect" looks fantastic, as well. The keyboard is very responsive and tactile (could never compare to a mechanical, but for laptop chiclets, it is wonderful). The trackpad is also superb and is very customizable to different sensitivities and styles (the advanced settings are a bit buried, but again, offer some great fine-tuning options). The stylus is a great value-add. It doesn't feel gimmicky, and is very responsive. I do love the option to be able to tap the Microsoft Ink interface and capture the screen to jot down a note on it. The buttons are also customizable to pre-configured functions. But, so far, I have gotten some limited mileage out of the stylus. The i7-7500U, coupled with the SSD, and 16GB RAM allows for an experience very competitive with a Mac. I have timed the boot on several different occasions in -- in different circumstances -- and found that in every case the time to the login screen was under 10 seconds. Multitasking is a breeze. The system resources are substantial enough to satisfy most people. Someone mentioned the fan getting a little loud, but it is definitely tolerable and I never find it distracting. Another user mentioned around 8 hours of battery-only usage, and I would find that to be a reasonable number. Slightly less if you're using resource-heavy apps. The USB-C/Thunderbolt/charging ports also charge the device quite quickly. (Speaking of ports, I would agree with the other user who mentioned being satisfied wtih the availability of ports.) I have no regrets with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone who may be on the fence about it.

Excellent Machine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a 2-in-1 laptop that I could use for everything. I'm an engineering student who needs something portable, long-lasting, fast, and easy to write on with a stylus (for taking notes). This laptop not only has a beautiful design, but also can do whatever I need it to. The (included!) stylus input is superb and beginning next semester, I will be taking notes exclusively with this laptop. (I would begin immediately, but I'm already halfway through the spring semester with paper notebooks.) The battery life gets me through a full day or more of fairly constant web browsing, typing, and video playback. The display is beautiful, but be warned; a 4k screen will make you look at all other lower-quality displays as inferior. The aluminum build is thin, light, and every synonym you can think of for gorgeous. I would say it surpasses the Macbook line of laptops. The 360 hinge is well-designed and I haven't had any issues with it. The included leather sleeve is perfect to place under the keyboard when in tablet mode -- any dirt on a surface will quickly scratch up the keys and body. Now to the downsides. While I praise this laptop for being thin, I miss my HDMI port and SD card slot. This issue has been remedied with about $30 of adapters, but I would be remiss without mentioning it. The aluminum scratches easily (no duh, it's aluminum) which just means you'll have to be a little more careful with it. There aren't many skins or wraps out yet for this device because it hasn't gained the necessary popularity yet, but hopefully companies will support it before I scuff mine for the first time. The trackpad is wide which will take getting used to. I'm not sure what HP's thinking was on this as it really is annoying wide. A graphics card would have been a nice addition, but so far I have been making do. I don't game too much, so that shouldn't be an issue, but I will update this once I've tried out Skyrim. CAD programs like Solidworks or AutoCAD should run OK so long as you're not designing anything crazy. The price is high, but you definitely get what you pay for. This laptop should last me quite a while, so I feel it was a wise investment. Overall, I am pleased with this laptop. I think HP has stepped up their premium computer game and if this is a show of what is to come I can only see good things from them in the next few years. If you get a chance to see this laptop in person when making the critical decision, do so. It made my decision between this and the Surface Book much easier and I ended up buying this that same day. (Yes, it is that good-looking.)

Battery life a deal breaker
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start with the positive: this is one beautiful laptop. It's lightweight, 4K screen is crystal clear, keyboard is wonderful, amazing processing power, and simply nice to look at aesthetically. Now for for the only real negative, which unfortunately was a deal breaker for me: battery life. It's says somewhere close to 8-9 hours, but with just watching downloaded videos in airplane mode, I barely made it 5 hours. The 4K sceeen (which I had on 70%), while really nice, just crushes the battery. I'm just not sure a 4K screen is necessary on a 13.3" monitor, anyway. They do make the FHD version with similar specs and it has nearly 50% battery life improvement. If battery life isn't important to you, this is a great option. For me, having a laptop means being portable and I'm willing to downgrade screen quality for more battery life, especially since difference is not incredibly noticeable on such a small screen. Side note: Best Buy return was as seamless as it could be since within 14-days. Thank you!

HP Spectre x360 laptop

Perfect, but two small flaws.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this computer for college, and let me just say this 2 in 1 computer is an absolute beast! Performance is suburb for a small laptop, the screen is by far the best screen I have ever seen on a laptop in years, and the overall feel of the computer is nothing like anything else. one of my "flaws" to this computer is the bottom rubber stoppers. They don't exactly work. They like to slide around when ever the lap desk isn't level. No big deal, just have to be careful! My second "flaw" is that when turned up to 70% or higher, the speakers like to rattle a little when a video bottoms out the sound. No big deal really, the speakers are crisp enough to be able to be heard at low volumes. The price is much, but let me say, I did 2 months of research to find a better alternative to this computer, and nothing could match up. If you have the money, this 2 in 1 is the best choice!

please do not buy this laptop ever.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i was so excited to buy this laptop while they advertise everywhere like webpages, YouTube etc.. finally I bought it yesterday as a new in the box although i am not satisfy with this HP spectre x360 4k 13.3". pro: designed is pretty impressive, very light and thin, 4k screen resolution is awesome and the main thing is the keyboard is so great. cons: battery is last for only 4-5 hrs in 4k display and 6 hrs in 1080 p Full HD mode. touchpad is sucks, it freezes 3-4 in an hours , at that time whole machine will remain unresponsive I cant even move the cursor and close the programmed. the third one is overheating that I felt my lap was burning from the heat. this is not good at all. if you willing to pay $1500 for this sucks hp laptop please i would recommend you to buy MacBook pro 2017 which is only $1399 plus student discount is $125 so the cost will be cheaper than this laptop. the specs is little bit higher in hp but apple is apple so people please make a good decision before you get your laptop and you will never regret with MacBook pro.

Terrible Laptop DO NOT BUY
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before purchasing this laptop, I did hours of research on a suitable laptop that would fit my college needs. I decided to purchase this HP Spectre x360 13.3 in due to its light weight, thinness, 4k display, and overall great looks. I am disappointed to say this is by far the worst laptop I have ever owned (well, for the week before I returned it). The first one I purchased had major issues. One was the mouse cursor freezing for a few seconds and eventually the entire screen freezing. This would require me to restart the laptop for it to work. A second issue was that whenever I tried to draw with the included stylus, it would start drawing 1.5 inches TO THE RIGHT of where I initially made contact with the screen. There was also the issue of not being able to use the touchscreen two seconds after using the stylus. Despite these major problems, I still loved the laptop for its amazing looks and beautiful display. I went to Best Buy for an exchange, hoping the second Spectre would not have these issues. I am literally typing this review 5 minutes after opening the box and will return this immediately. For starters, the not being able to use the screen two seconds after using the stylus is still an issue. I would have spent more time with the laptop to see if the other issues persisted but there was a more concerning problem. The TRACKPAD ISNT EVEN FLAT. It is tilted to one side so that the left click is deeper indented into the laptop. While this may not seem to be a problem with the average user, I did not spend $1600 + tax for a premium laptop with a terrible build quality. I will be returning this immediately. I am not sure what I will purchase next but I know it won't be an HP product.

Died after 5 months, HP Customer Support terrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great while it worked. Five months after purchase, it just wouldn't turn on. Contacted HP Customer support and they told me they'd repair it under warranty. They sent me packing materials and a box and label. Then claimed when they received it that the box was undamaged, but that the laptop had significant physical damage and wouldn't be covered under warranty. The laptop I sent did not have a scratch or dent on it - the pictures they sent me showed an entire corner smashed in. I can only assume their techs damaged it and claimed it came that way. I'm out a $1400 laptop with HP just saying "not our problem." Don't trust HP - buy another brand.

Spectre x360 vs Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 vs Surface Book
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After reading so many good reviews, I bought this laptop first. Initial impressions were very positive. There was a lot of fan noise initially which was worrisome, but after installing all software and hardware updates that seemed to tone down. There’s a lot of positives to tell you about this laptop but I’m going to highlight the cons because they are the pertinent issues that made this laptop a no-go for me. One con that I only saw written about once elsewhere was the very noisy spacebar on this machine. For some reason they made the bottom row of the keyboard, including the often-used spacebar, more stiff than the other keys. Thus in a quiet room you here a lot of ‘clunking’ while typing every time the spacebar is used. The screen is very sharp, but the coloring varies from left to right and the backlighting is somewhat uneven. The upper-left corner of the laptop base where the processor is does get quite hot at times. The fatal flaw for this laptop became apparent to me the day after I purchased it: a loose/clicky trackpad. I had read about loose trackpad issues and didn’t know what they were talking about. But shortly I found out! It’s a trackpad that makes clicking noises even when you’re not trying to click anything. For example when two-finger scrolling on a website, the trackpad would make clicking sounds. Since some people have apparently returned this laptop 5 times to only get new units with the same loose trackpad problem, I decided to try something different. I went with the also highly-reviewed Dell XPS 13 2-in-1. Unfortunately a day after purchasing that model a different fatal flaw was discovered: coil whine. I had never heard coil whine before, it’s a strange beeping/gurgling sound that comes from underneath the keyboard. It’s very unacceptable in a quiet working environment. Connor at Best Buy acknowledged that laptops produced by companies like HP and Dell are known to have quality control issues. He suggested I look into the Microsoft Surface Book. Initially I had overlooked the Surface Book because of the higher price point for lower specs. But when I realized how poor the quality control was on these other models, I realized it might be worth it. A month later I’m very satisfied with my decision to purchase the Surface Book. Sure it doesn’t have USB-C ports or the most RAM or SSD space. But the fit and finish, the trackpad behavior, the screen evenness and brightness, the materials are of so much higher quality than the HP or Dell it makes them feel like toys. I never realized either how much I would enjoy the detachable screen, which doesn’t feel like a second-rate tablet but an awesome huge-screen tablet of high quality. I hope this can help you make an informed decision regarding the HP. Maybe you’ll get one without a loose trackpad, but I couldn’t afford the hassle and am glad I ended up with the Surface Book.

Touchscreen phantom touches render it useless
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This would be a 5 star laptop (because it's a great machine) except for the problem that requires disabling the touchscreen for it to work. This is a known and published issue. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Windows/Touchscreen-ghost-touches-touches-when-I-m-not-touching-the/td-p/5426728 The problem is that the touchscreen shows phantom touches and the cursor becomes erratic. The phantom touches trigger Cortana, power options and any other application that is touched. This makes any normal activity impossible. The attached image shows these phantom touch circles. Disabling the touchscreen is the only temporary remedy. I'll update this after the conclusion of the HP support experience.

Good things come in small packages.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I initially wanted to get a Microsoft Surfacebook but I compared the specs and other features and I settled on the 15-inch version of this laptop. After a few days I realized how much I didn't like the extra heft. I came from a 13-inch Lenovo 2-in-1 I could really feel extra heft. I swapped it for the 13-inch version of this laptop and it is amazing. I did have to give up the Nvidia graphics but from the coding and photo work I did, I couldn't tell the difference. I love just about everything about this laptop and now that I have the better drivers installed for the included pen, I can use it with GIMP and Inkscape. This very pretty laptop is just what I needed. My only minor gripe would be that the lid is not the easiest to open with one hand.

Much better than MIcrosoft Surface Pro 4
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was using Microsoft Surface Pro 4 since it was released. This laptop replaced my Surface Pro and I am glad I did that. The main reason I bough this laptop is for USB C ports. It is easy to charge using any compatible USB C adapter. The 4K screen is bright and beautiful. You can read for hours without straining your eyes. It has all other components for it to be your primary device.

So close but quality issues are apparent
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sweet looking laptop and has great performance. I really want to give it one star since it is supposed to be an elite ultrabook but the overall look and performance are fantastic. The main issue is the trackpad. If you google hp spectre x360 trackpad you'll find countless reviews, hacks, and return issues. Going from a macbook pro to this is such a downer with the trackpad. It is loose and clicks when you are simply scrolling with two fingers. Appears to be a common return issue or people have created their own hacks opening the computer up. I'm not doing that for a big purchase. Going to try exchanging and see if I can get a good build. There were a lot of reviews out there indicating if you bought direct from HP there doesn't seem to be the issue. Only the BB allotment. I did go back into the store and try out the floor models. They do not have the issue. Don't accept subpar out of the box. Will try a second one and update if better.

Great customer service but horrible product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.PROS -The laptop is absolutely gorgeous -Random people have stopped at airports to tell me my laptop is good looking -Ability to flip to tablet mode, write on the screen all of that is good -customer service is excellent, they replaced my laptop with the latest 2017 edition( IMO other than the face recognition unlock I don't like it as much as the 13inch 2016 edition) CONS -lots and lots of problems! -had my first piece returned and bought a replacement for ghost touch problem, second started giving the same issue after a month. They took it for repair and sent it back in 24 hrs but after a month the same issue started arising again. So they replaced it with the brand new spectre. Now this one and I dont know if it is to be attributed to Windows 10 on HP or the laptop itself, but my laptop hangs ALL the time. I type out a sentence and I can go take a walk and come back for it to reflect on the screen. This majorly happens on browsers (I've tried 3 browsers and it is all the same) I want to ask for a refund and buy another laptop but what are my options really? In this range of PCs, it's either the Spectre or the Yoga or the XPS. I wouldn't want to spend that much on a surface book anyway. I'm really hoping they can just fix my issue so that I can rest in piece with this without having to worry about picking from the other not so many options.

Great Laptop with one exception
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great laptop, except HP has crippled it with a requirement of only use HP brand chargers. This means that you will not be able to use docking stations provided by other manufactures. There are several written request for HP to change their BIOS (as they have done for other laptops in their line), but so far these request have gone unanswered. A recent call to tech support was instrumental in letting me know that a change is coming at some time in the future. Maybe buyers should wait to purchase (some time in the future), or find a manufacturer that will not cripple the charging situation. Just my thoughts. Other than that, I do like the laptop. Thanks....

Horrible computer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this computer two years ago for over $1000 and now the motherboard is done. Very disappointed with this purchase and the customer service of HP. I Should've bought a MAC book. I Lost all my data.i have read other people reviews and they have this same issue, seems like they make this computer purposely to stop working so they can try to sell $700 service to try to fix it. Called customer service and they left me on hold for over an hour only to tell me they'll call me back. I'm left with a Broken computer in the middle of midterms. DO not purchase this computer!

Nearly perfect, major flaw
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are many things to love about this machine, but at least on the unit I received, there is a major defect: the display has uneven color from the left to the right side. On the left, the hue tends a bit towards yellow. It fades in a smooth gradient to the right side, which has a distinct pink hue. Perhaps you could live with this, but as much as I have tried to be OK with it, it drives me nuts, especially on a machine that costs this much. I'd suggest considering buying it in store, so you can inspect the screen before you leave the store. View it on a completely white background to see if the screen has even color tone. It also has some intermittent coil squeal, but it is quieter than last year's 15" model, and wouldn't be irritating enough for me to return it for just this reason. But the yellow/pink screen is a deal breaker. I was also surprised by how regularly the fan kicks in at high speed. I don't think that it's faulty, but it sure is loud compared to my Mac. From trawling online, I can see that these problems are pretty common with various HP and non-HP laptops. There is no fix for the screen or coil whine. If it weren't for these problems, this would be a perfect machine. As it stands, though, it's disappointing.
