An odyssey begins... I purchased the Spectre X360 i7 (Skylake)/8/256 machine (unit 1) a few days before the Black Friday rush, and really liked it. Then when I realized it was on sale for over $200 less for BF, I tried have it price matched. BB would not honor it! At the time, there was nothing in store or online that indicated they would not honor their own price reduction. After some back and forth, I decided to simply return it and repurchase a new unit (unit 2) at the lower price (what a hassle). Feeling pretty good about saving $200, I opened the new unit and noticed a slight difference in packaging but did not pay it much attention because it was only packaging, right? Wrong! When I tried to press the trackpad, I noticed a gap that made an annoying sound each time it was pressed. Disappointed with the trackpad, which is used for everything, I decided to return the unit. So, back to the store I went. I explained to the Returns person the trackpad is bad and I needed a new unit. After the hassle-free exchange, I took unit 3 home. As I rode home I thought, "Ok, that was just a bad unit and this one will be the ONE!" Boy, was I wrong. The same thing happened when I opened the packaging...it was like unit 2. The trackpad had the annoying gap and the clicking sound was too much to deal with on a brand new machine. I went to YouTube to see if anyone else encountered the problem because at this point I was too tired to deal with another exchange. And, I was kicking myself for returning the original unit just to save $200. Back to YouTube. There are actually videos of people taking the brand new Spectre x360 apart just to put in electrical tape under the trackpad to dampen the sound. I was about to do this myself, then my wife said, nonchalantly, "why not try another BB store?" I told her I was too tired to deal with the crowds and would rather tinker. Then I thought about the warranty and whether my opening the laptop would void it and got frustrated for even having to consider such a tactic. Finally, I worked up enough whatever to go to another BB and give it one more shot (unit 4). This time, I explained my situation to the new Returns team and they recommended I open the unit at the counter rather than take it home and be disappointed. I told them all I needed to do was look at the packaging to tell whether this would be a hit or a miss. Eureka!! The tell tale signs of quality I've learned to notice right away based on the packaging alone worked and I want to share it with anyone considering the Spectre x360 Skylake. When you open the box, look at the power adapter plastic wrap. If your wrap is in a long skinny package, odds are you will receive the bad trackpad with the gap and annoying click sound. If your power adapter comes in short square plastic bag, you have the better trackpad! Weird, I'll admit, but after four units, I thought it would be worth mentioning. Anyway, back to the actual review. I am not an HP fan at all, but love this machine. I am a Surface Pro 3 user and really enjoyed using it over the last 1.5 years, but there were some things I hoped they'd improve on for the SP4, namely battery life and a better keyboard experience. Well, needless to say, they only solved half the equation--the keyboard. As for the battery, I've read in some places that battery life is the same or even less. So, I opted to pony up and buy the Surface Book and pay the price differential. However, after playing with it in BB I could not justify the $2k+ pricetag on something I knew had design flaws (a detachable tablet that only lasts 2 real hours unless connected to the base--no thanks.) Then, I took a long look at Microsoft's history and realized they are best at refining a product over its lifecycle rather getting it right with the first offering. Feeling bummed, I grugdingly made my way to the HP display to look at this thing of beauty that tries its best to be a Macbook Pro or Air. Though not crazy about the color choice for the keyboard (silver with white backlighting not the best combo) the other aspects of the laptop appealed to me. And the fact that it folded like a Lenovo Yoga, and can take active stylus input was a clencher. To sweeten the deal, the keyboard typing experience is even better than the Thinkpad or Macbook IMHO. For the money and build quality (remember to check your packaging), you simply cannot go wrong. Though the pen experience is not as good as the Surface Pro 3/4, it will do (as long as you are not an artist) until better drivers are released. Finally, do not purchase the HP stylus. Purchase the stylus online from Dell because it works much better and is cheaper (way to go Dell). Peace and good luck with your purchase.

The computer seems to run fine but lags around in display area when multiple pages are open. And figuring out the best way to use the touch or mouse is taking a while to get used too. As well as sometimes it puts in app. Mode when I was in desktop mode. But other than that it boots up fast and touch works well
