    Poor quality!!!

When I first got this laptop I was definitely impressed by its lightweight and attractive design. However, problems came as soon as I opened this item. The trackpad was rattling. It is not the problem only I have. I have found a lot of people complaining about the same issue. Also, just after a month of use, the whole bottom cover has started rattling!! It is very annoying and because it has been a month, I cannot return the item! Poor quality!!! Don't buy it!!!

    Beautiful, but disappointing product

I purchased this new from Best Buy in May of 2016. The reason I chose this 2-in-1 over the Lenovo Yoga 900 was for the active pen support. I am an artist and I wanted to be able to sketch on the laptop using the Active pen. Well, when I received my HP Active Pen, the Spectre did not recognize it. I went through hours and hours of internet forums looking for a solution. Several HP Spectre products had a firmware update that fixed the issue, but my specific model did not - the best recommendations were to update the BIOS, the Graphics driver, and the Intel Serial IO driver. While installing these official HP drivers from their support website, my touchscreen stopped functioning altogether. I tried everything that I could find on this documented issue until I ended up chatting with HP support. The BIOS update causes this to happen on some Spectre models, and nothing can fix it, including a factory reset. They literally have people sending in their spectres for a physical repair that is required to fix the damage caused by the bios update!?! The CS rep at HP was very nice, but they had the audacity to tell me how much this screen repair would have cost if I was not under warranty, and offered to sell me the extended warranty. I used an official HP driver and firmware update and it broke my laptop - don't try to make me feel like it was my fault that the computer stopped working. Due to new jobs and moving across the country, I did not discover this issue until after my Best Buy return period had expired, otherwise I would have surely been returning this sub-standard piece of hardware. Now I have to send my laptop in to HP for a hardware repair (we'll see if they actually send MINE back or provide a replacement) and they estimate 3 days for return envelope and then 9 days for the repair, so I will be without my laptop for almost two weeks for a mfg defect that I have no control over. It is very frustrating to have this happen within the first two months of owning a brand new product. To be fair, I really like the 2-in-1 for everything else I have used it for, but I bought this specifically because I needed Active Pen Supprt & touch-screen, otherwise there are plenty of competitor options out there that I would have been perfectly happy with.

    Specs PLUS the looks!

I did a lot of research for a new laptop for school. Was between this one, Macbook Air and an Asus Flip Chromebook. Ultimately decided on this one because of the great specs, conversion to tablet form (and still remaining slim) and just overall build. The other 2 are great laptops but they lag in other aspects. I am very happy with my purchase! Oh, and did I mention Best Buy allowed me to apply a student discount? Made it even sweeter.

I recently purchased the I7 360 HP Spectre. I loved the look and the lightweight feel. Had everything I wanted in a laptop till the Display driver stop responding and recovering kept repeating and coming up daily. So I exchanged it on the 7th day for another. Well today is day 9 from the first purchase and day 2 from the exchange and the laptop won't turn on. The laptop has a blinking power button. It has been fully charged since last night so that is not the issue. Also the screen is black. This is outrageous that a computer that cost 1200 dollars doesn't last longer than a week. Truly dispicable.

      Hi there Jgirl,

If the computer does not start after charging the battery, remove the battery and connect the AC power supply. Verify that the battery power LED glows, then attempt to start the computer. If the LED still does not glow, if possible, connect a different AC power adapter to verify that the adapter is the problem. You can reach out to us @HPSupport or hp.com/contacthp so that we can assist you better also.

      Take care,

bought at local best buy 7/15, just saw $150 price cut so went to store and got credit for difference since within 15 day window. Has worked flawlessly, no issues with screen, touchpad, etc. Keyboard is four stars, and in particular, wish the cursor arrow keys were slightly larger (as they are in a couple of competitive models) and that the keyboard had a bit more travel; but understand the tradeoffs.

HAD BEEN LOOKING AT ALL KINDS OF COMPUTERS AND IN A MOMENT OF WEAKNESS MADE A MISTAKE. AFTER DRIVING THIRTY MILES EACH WAY FROM THE KEYS TO BEST BUY DRIVING RIGHT PAST ANOTHER STORE THAT HAD A COUPLE OF COMPUTERS I LIKED. I STROLLED INTO BEST BUY AND BOUGHT THIS THING.. AFTER HAVING SUCH GOOD LUCK WITH MY DIFFERENT BRAND 280 DOLLAR COMPUTER IN MY WEAKENED STATE I THOUGHT A THOUSAND DOLLAR COMPUTER WOULD BE BETTER, WHAT A MISTAKE. THE THING LASTED ALL OF TWO HOURS, JUST LONG ENOUGH FOR ME TO GET SOME OF MY PROGRAMS AND E MAILS ON THEN BLACK SCREEN DEAD GONE , NOTHING ONLY BLACK SCREEN. I AM GOING TO TAKE THIS THING BACK TOMORROW IN HOPES OF GETTING A DIFFERENT COMPUTER, ONE THAT WORKS. I SHOULD HAVE NEVER DEVIATED FROM . MY OLD COMPUTER TO BUY THIS THING. I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER. LIVE AND LEARN. I WAS NOT A BELIEVER IN HP BECAUSE OF THE DESK TOP I BOUGHT A FEW YEARS AGO THAT WAS ALSO DISAPPOINTING. NOW THE MEMORIES ARE FLOODING BACK HP DISAPPOINTED BEFORE AND NOW AGAIN,NOT HAPPY WITH HP AT ALL. WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME AM I INSANE.

    Riddled with Hardware Issues

Word to the wise, and I can see I'm not the first with this issue, the hardware is doomed from the moment it comes out of the box. In my case, the speakers were dead within the first month, and now, the SSD Hard Drive has failed.

    ANNOYING TRACKPAD

This computer has a very annoying trackpad that has a cheap click to if you tap it. Google "hp spectre trackpad" and you will see. Overall the computer itself was pretty good but the annoying trackpad cheap click noise was a deal breaker for me. Returned it within hours of purchase.

    Don't Buy

My HP Spectra is very fast with the I-7 processor. But it has a serious Wi-Fi issue,it constantly loses it Wi-Fi signal.I am normally located about 10 feet or less from my Apple Extreme router. And after two weeks of average use,all of my audio output stop working. If anyone else has the same problem with audio,go to HP's website and reinstall the audio drivers.I do like the design and look.Over all I would not recommend anyone to buy this laptop for the price with all of the issues that I have had.If I had a second chance,I would have went with a MacBook Air or Pro,both are close to the same price range.

    Bought twice, returned twice

Bought after great reviews but it failed at STARTUP. The video card glitched (screen went black and pixelated) in the middle of the initial startup then it would glitch (flicker and pixelate at the bottom 3 inches of the screen) every time the screen was idle but functioning (ex watching videos). I decided to return it because a new laptop shouldn't do that. I bought a second one. It made it through startup but once I clicked on settings to change the background it glitched like the first time. Then I tried watching videos and the screen flickered again! Two bad video cards. Going to look for another laptop. Not worth the price or trouble!!!

I spent weeks researching laptops and finally settled on this one. I'm not very tech savvy and I found it very easy to get set up. The picture quality is great. Love the 2 in 1 features. Worth every penny.

    Defective

Was great while working, unfortunately it has an occasional issue where a 2nd mouse cursor will appear with a circle around it on the left side of the screen, making the original mouse cursor very erratic and unusable. Restarting the machine does correct the issue. HP says it is a known issue and to send it in for repair....on a unit that is brand new, that is not acceptable. will return and try another one - with hopefully better luck

Purchased this for my middle school aged son. It's great for school and at home gaming with a small form factor and decent power considering it's size.
