I think I was better off getting an Apple computer, I only recommend this product to "Windows Lovers". If you're not use to Windows it'll take some adjusting. I mainly just like the size and the tablet features! :/

I previously purchased 2 HPEnvy's and graphic stabilizer broke within two months on one and the other the hard drive went within three months - I replaced both with a Lenovo and this HP Spectre - I wish I bought two HP Spectre! I love the SSD and how fast it works. It's lightweight. It does not have a access for a computer lock for my daughter's college dorm so I had to buy an adapter. Only other fault is updates are not always meant for your particular HP so I've had to bring it in for maintenance where some of those updates. An really mess with your computer.

    Design Defect

I purchased a Geek Squad refurbished Spectre x360, model 13-4101dx and my experience has not been good. The computer runs great; however, the screen cracked after 3 months of gentle use. The screen was fine when the laptop was closed and the next morning the screen was cracked. I wasted 16 days for Best Buy to ship it off to their repair center only to tell me it's not covered under warranty and quote $400 to repair. I'm frustrated as there are lots of complaints about this on-line, seems like a design/manufacturing defect. So I sent messages to HP and it took them 2 days to respond; day 3 and I'm waiting to find out what HP is willing to do. Now I'm pressed for time as I need this computer fixed before my daughter heads to college, so I'm considering having a local repair shop fix it. Poor customer service from Best Buy and so far HP acts like this is not a priority. And based on all of the posts on HP's forum, I'm guessing HP will not step up and take care of this.

the battery life is just amazing I kept thinking I should be charging it only to look down and see I had over half battery left. there is one problem though. I just could not get the touchpad to keep the settings I wanted. Whenever it would come back from hibernation or sleep the gestures like swipe with 3 fingers to see open windows would just not work. It could be that it is just a problem with this machine but I just could not get it fix.

This notebook is solid. It's built solid out of solid block aluminum, but it's technically solid as well. Setup was quick and simple; moving my data from my prev Surface Pro 4 was quick and easy; keyboard is excellent (unlike the Surface Pro); and lots of value for the price.

    Great Laptop

General Thoughts, Story, And Issue This is an amazing laptop, it is fast, the key travel is great, its fun to use, and there are no more scaling issues on the 4K screen with the addition of windows 10 (before there were weird pixelized icons and tiny or huge wording) I would give this laptop a 10/10, however, there also were some issues before that caused me and my brother (we both got the same laptop) some massive problems, so much so that we were planning no returning both of the laptops. This issue was with the wifi connect ability to certain routers. None of the windows updates or HP drivers would fix it and I had to scour the internet for intel drivers for the dang thing, now that I have upgraded to windows 10 I have not had any issues connecting to any of our 3 wifi signals. Accessories And Downloads During my use of it I also contracted some malware on my computer and thought it was just slow but it didn't make sense because its a very fast laptop with nice internals so I downloaded Malwarebytes ( https://www.malwarebytes.org ) and it fixed my computer in no time. I also paired it up with a Dell PR77S Stylus (http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Dell-Active-Stylus-for-Dell-Tablets/productID.292093800) instead of the HP stylus that Best Buy sells because its better and less expensive because of the stylus tip. To hold the stylus much like the competing Microsoft Surface Pro tablet I used a Self Adhesive Pen Loop (http://www.containerstore.com/s/office/office-accessories/12?productId=11001269) Battery Life So the battery life on this computer is really great, on the lowest brightness setting I get about a whole day of regular use on it. Without worry. My only gripe (and when I say gripe I mean it is annoying but necessary) is that when I get to about 10 percent battery my computer goes into a sleep mode, and I cant turn it on, but when I put my computer back on the charger I can start right back where I left off and not lose any data. Computer Uses I use this computer mostly for processing RAW photos in Lightroom and Photoshop, but I also of course type papers with it (which is a breeze) and play light games like Star Wars Battlefront 2, Dead Space 2, Half Life 2, Binding of Issac etc. My only gripe with playing games on this laptop it that it has something called Synaptics Click Pad software that does way too much and prevents me from using the click pad while using the keyboard which is REALLY annoying for gaming but kind of makes sense since the Clickpad is nice and huge. I also use this computer to brows Netflix which looks really nice on this 4K screen. Heating and Fan Noises The cooling on this laptop is really nice and it does not really get that hot on my lap, if your using it in tablet mode however it is easy for your hand to cover up the exhaust vent on the left side causing it to heat up and create a reasonably loud fan noise but when I realize my hand is on the vent and take it off, the computer cools down down to normal temperature in a FEW SECONDS, which is very nice, although it only has one exhaust port this computer does cool very nicely. The fan noises aren't really that loud except when your doing something like gaming or photo editing, in which case it gets a little loud but if you have any ambient noise in the room it shouldn't be a problem. Ports, Accessibility, and WIFI The array of ports on this computer is very nice, on the left is the charging port, one usb 3.0 port, and the glorious SD card slot that has the SD card go all the way in with almost nothing sticking out and a satisfying click when inserting or ejecting. The left has the standard 3.5mm auxiliary jack, 2 usb 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, AND a Display port, (or Lightning Bolt port, pretty much the same thing) The buttons are nice and I can usually locate them in the dark, but when using tablet mode I usually cant figure out which one increases and decreases volume until I press one. The windows button on the same side is alright, I don't think I have really used it once though. HP boasts about great WIFI on this computer but honestly the issues above kind of ruined that for me. Regardless though the WIFI range is pretty impressive. The back of the laptop is easy to remove which is nice for maintenance and cleaning but if you are planning on replacing the ram any time soon just know that it IS saudered on so you cant replace it. Also know that changing the internals/opening your laptop may VOID YOUR WARRANTY. Aesthetics and Portability This computer really is beautiful, it is pretty clear that HP was trying to compete with Apple on this one and it came out looking great. I am often using this device and someone looks at as if its a Macintosh but then I flip it to tablet mode and their face looks petrified as I seemingly break my apple computer. The computer does get pretty dirty though because of the aluminum finish but it still looks nice. The lack of notification lights like the hard drive light and the wifi light are a nice detraction because it adds to the sleekness of the laptop and who really needed those anyways? The self adhesive pen loop does look like kind of an eyesore on the top cover but its a necessary evil. The laptop although a little heavy does not cause an issue because I can fairly easily use it with one hand in tablet mode, but while doing this it does get a little heavy after a bit. Tablet Mode Tablet mode works very nice on this device and even better on windows 8 with the universal large buttons. The vents sometimes get covered by my hands as explained above and the keyboard on the back felt a little strange when I started using the laptop but it soon starts to feel normal. The laptop has a magnet to keep it together in tablet mode but I find that both the top and bottom separate and come back together which can either be slightly annoying or REALLY annoying based on how OCD you are about it. The computer also has rubber feet on almost everywhere you will be sitting it except in tent mode, so scratches are not much of an issue. HP Spectre X360 VS. Microsoft Surface Pro 3 The primary reason I chose this over the Surface Pro 3 is because it has an apposable keyboard, which gives it maximum "lapability" (as coined by Microsoft) as opposed to the Surface which can be awkward to hold in a lap because of its flimsy, expensive, keyboard and tiny back kickstand. The keyboard is also nicer than the surface anyways. The Spectre has better hardware for the same price. Final Thoughts If I had the chance to buy any laptop on the market now for this price then I would still chose this one because it is so nice. I am not the kind of person to jump right in and contact a support site but whenever I was fixing issues it seemed like HP was pretty responsive and professional on their support sites. Im sure there are a lot of other things I should add, so if anybody has and questions, comments or things I should put in my review just comment below and I will try and reply as soon as possible.

I loved this computer but had numerous issues with networking drivers. I could never get them resolved and so I eventually returned it and got a Lenovo Yoga 900. I am sure they have probably worked out all those issues since then

Solid laptop (beware the wifi drivers)

I purchased the 13-4005dx on Wednesday of this week. It was light and fast, but aside from running a little hot, it ran just fine. I took it to work the following day and had a frustrating experience. It was seemingly the only device in the office that couldn't connect to the wifi. I tried upgrading the OS, modifying the wifi adapter settings and installing new drivers but nothing worked. I exchanged it that night. This laptop was lighter and cooler than the last model BUT it had the same wifi issue at the office that its predecessor had. After doing some research, I found that the Intel AC7265 had issues with commercial grade wireless. As a business traveler, that's terrible news. I went out and bought a USB wifi adapter to perform some in-office testing. I had to completely uninstall the existing driver and download/install the latest driver. Keep in mind that letting the computer try to do this for you automatically will not work. The issue seems resolved now. I'm about to hit the road for my first trip with my fingers crossed but with a USB adapter in-hand. I hope that it won't be necessary because I'd really like to keep this model. BEST BUY: Take note of this shortcoming as being proactive around explaining it will save you open box inventory.

I've had my Spectre for a little over a month now and I can honestly say I'm a huge fan of this laptop. A little about me: power user, college of engineering student, and gamer. I grabbed this from Best Buy (i7, 256GB, 8GB RAM, 1080p, etc.) and I can say that this meets all the recommendations that the college mentioned and gets spectacular battery life. Since I've owned it HP has improved it's custom power save setting TWICE through updates. I know, that seems like a low number, but if you look at the way they handle drivers on most consumer laptops very few show updates after it goes to production. All but one of my drivers has been updated since I bought this laptop which means they are still supporting it and making the software better. That in itself should tell you that HP wants this laptop to do well. HP made this for users who are going to need a laptop that lasts and can complete heavy tasks.

    Almost Perfect

I bought the 13-4102 Spectre 2 in 1 laptop to perform activities like word processing, spreadsheet, web browsing, video streaming etc. I must say that this is a great little laptop except for audio. In particular: -- The QHD display (quad HD, 2560X1440 or 4 times 720P resolution) renders everything clearly on the 13 inch screen. -- The AC wireless adapter along with my AC home network and high speed internet allows for clear HD video streaming with no stutter. I was very impressed with this. -- The 512GB SSD drive will provide ample room for most of my stuff (even with the 65GB that Windows 10 and apps use) and data operations are very fast. Again I was impressed with the speed. I do record gameplay video and will move those files to my desktop to render, provide voice over commentary, and archive, thus keeping the storage requirements down on this laptop. -- The Intel I7-5500U processor, while dual core, with the 8GB RAM installed, does provide enough processing power to perform most routine and business tasks. It does not have enough processing power though to perform many concurrent operations or heavy processing operations like HD video editing. -- Again, thanks to the SSD drive, boot up and shut down are very fast. -- The power adapter connection is very snug which is good. I had found that this connection with other laptops was sometimes loose and moving the laptop even a little while plugged resulted in the jack disengaging and the laptop suddenly was on battery power. Not so this one. -- The laptop is very light and easy to transport. It even is provided with a padded sleeve which I thought was a nice touch. I haven’t test battery capability since I use this at home and plugged in. I found the only real issue with this laptop to be the audio. Audio levels are very low and stereo at best. This is not much of an issue for a number of activities but it is terrible when streaming or watching video. I streamed the pilot episode of Longmire on Netflix and the background music was “tinny” sounding and terrible. For a laptop touting higher definition display great for streaming, this is a major let down and the primary reason it is rated at 4 and not 5. I haven’t tried this but headphones may improve the audio. I wonder if anyone has tried that approach. I haven’t tried the “2 in 1” tablet or backstop functions yet so I cannot comment on them. Overall I would recommend the 13-4102 to anyone who needs a fast, lightweight, high resolution laptop for business, school, or travel if one can overcome the audio shortcomings. For anyone looking for a gaming machine or one for heavy processing, look elsewhere. Note that 13-4101 is very similar to this laptop, except for the SSD - 256GB vs. 512GB and the display resolution - full HD, 1920X1080 vs. QHD, 2560X1440 and costs about $260 less. That may be an alternative if one is on a stricter budget.
