DO NOT BUY.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Save yourself the hassle and buy a brand that provides driver updates on their website. I bought this thinking it was plug and play. It was not. It would say that the drivers were not installed. So then I looked for the drivers on their website. The only link available for support is the user manual which already comes included in the packaging and provides no additional information. Do a little online research and it takes you to Broadcom which then tells you that Windows should be able to automatically download the drivers. This was not only a waste of money but a waste of my time since I had to go and return it and get a new one. I will never buy anything from Insignia again. I bought the ASUS one instead. Took it home, plugged it in, and guess what? it worked! No need to download drivers or anything. And! if I had needed to download drivers the included user manual refers you to the exact webpage from ASUS, not some third party website where you can safely download the drivers. Best Buy needs to remove this from their stores.

No driver with product and not recognized.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this item because it said it was plug and play with minimal effort. That is fascinating because the driver is not actually a part of the software on the device itself. It relies on Windows magically finding the driver on its own, which of course it didn't. In my search to find a driver per their instructions, it took me to broadcom, a completely different company from the people selling this thing. Who, by the way, doesn't carry the driver. Of course not, because when you rely on someone else to do your job for you, this is what happens. I am now trying a different driver from IOGear which may or may not work (Link: http://iogear.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2490/kw/drivers) They cannot guarantee anything because, IT ISN'T THEIR DEVICE! Woo! You would think this wouldn't be hard people, but there it is. A lovely, joyous tool that doesn't really give you anything for the $20 you just threw out the window. FYI.... I do not recommend this product to my friends, enemies, or random strangers passing in the night.

Disappointed in its performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Maybe it was because I was born before we had cell phones and computers, but I was led to believe that if you didn't have blue tooth capability on your PC, you could plug this in and then the computer would be blue tooth compatible. My HP desktop didn't come with blue tooth, and runs Windows 7, so I thought this would be an ideal addition. It did nothing when I plugged it in. Three little audio chirps when I plugged it in, but that was it. Thinking maybe I did something wrong, I went to the Insignia website hoping to download the full manual instead of the quick start guide that came with it. Well, the full manual is only available in spanish and french. The only other manual in English was the quick start guide, which I already had. Well, there was a technician waiting to answer my questions, so I typed in my problem. Immediately, the (robot) technician asked for make, model, and OS of my computer. She then said to stand by to talk to a computer specialist. I am sent to a service website that is longer Insignia, and they want you to join their club for $5.00, then I think $29 or so per month and they will answer any technical question you would have in the future. They wanted your credit card information with the promise that you could cancel the contract at any time, which they were hoping you would forget to do down the line. Wait a minute, I bought their product, it didn't work, I wanted some assistance in case I was doing something wrong and they want to charge me for that for a product fresh out of the box purchased yesterday. So I didn't take the bait. I read a few more reviews, and some said they were having trouble/no luck loading the software in a Windows 7 OS. So to make sure the unit was working properly, I plugged it in to my laptop and it installed the SW immediately. It was working. However, as others have mentioned the fidelity is horrible into my beats earphones. I may return it tomorrow and try to find something else that I can hook to my pc to give it blue tooth. It made for a frustrating evening trying to get it to work, and the sound quality is only mediocre into beats earphones..

Not user friendly
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is absolute garbage as far as the average end user is concerned. The included instructions literally say: "plug in and wait for Windows to figure it out". Windows failed to "figure it out" on the two computers I tested it on. Windows did nothing on its own. I had to open device manager (ctrl+r, devmgmt.msc) to see that it was under other devices with no driver available. After googling and asking I found that the driver is recognized and downloaded by Windows, but not automatically installed and difficult even to see that it exists. For Win 11: Settings > Windows Update > Advanced Options > Optional Updates > Driver Updates... Hopefully you will then see an option to install a driver for "Broadcom Corporation" (sounds like some mega corp from Blade Runner or something). Worked fine after that. But again, for the average end user, not worth it. If I wasn't a PC nerd I would have given up and returned this thing immediately. These are the kinds of difficulties expected from computer peripherals in the 1990's, not 2022.

Do not buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If I could leave 0 stars I would. Now I'm not the most tech savvy person but I know how to google and troubleshoot. The driver never loaded, and I followed the countless tips to load the correct one, and nothing worked until I had someone from the PC company I bought my computer from manually install it. After that two weeks pass and my SSD gets corrupted (a three month old computer gets a corrupted SSD, nearly impossible and I don't visit bad sites). So I wait a few months, having replaced the initial adapter with a new one and having a new SSD in this computer and lo-and behold it doesn't work, only this time when I attempt the restart to load the driver I immediately am faced with a failure to restart, attempting repairs screen. So suffice to say my computer will be staying blue-toothless I will never recommend this product to anyone. I'm certain it's worked for other people, but twice is enough for me to say never again.

Definitely not plug-and-play.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.THe product itself is robust and reliable, but I have had three different versions of this Insignia dongle and absolutely none of them have been anything approaching plug-and-play. The first two versions were using unsupported hardware, and the third version, this one, uses a driver that is no longer supported by the manufacturer. It is possible to get it, but it must be manually installed. You'll need to look at the questions and answers for this product, a helpful user going by "NerdyGirl" provides the only instructions I've been able to use to successfully install and use the device. Ever since that, it's worked like a charm, but be advised, it actually took me more time and more headache to install this thing than it did for me to install my Corsair water-cooling loop for my processor.

Not sure yet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installation on Win 10 64bit was smooth. It connected to my BT mouse and BT keyboard but that's where the fun stops. The mouse is laggy and the keyboard connection regularly drops (where the keyboard/mouse does not have this issue connected to my phone via BT). I'll try on another computer but I'm inclined to believe it's not working correctly or woefully inadequate. I didn't even try audio after my keyboard/mouse experience.

Not to bad but can be better.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My laptop have no Bluetooth so I buy this USB Bluetooth adapter for my laptop. I saw three other reviews indicating the sound is not good but overall the rating is a four stars so I thought I try it anyway. Here is my finding. Need to have internet connection to download the software, extract all files, installed, and restart the computer before the USB Bluetooth adapter can be used. After I added my Bluetooth speaker, turning on the Bluetooth on the laptop is about 5 seconds, turning Bluetooth off takes about 15 seconds. The sound is not bad because I can't tell the difference between my I-pod touch or my laptop playing to the same speaker. I give a four stars because the price is little higher then most I can find on Amazon; it doesn't come with software; and takes a little long to shut Bluetooth off. Three other reviews says sound quality is not good, but in my case the sound is good and I can't tell the difference between my I-pod touch or my laptop. The only other problem is, I can't control the the true volume of my speaker from the laptop through Bluetooth, While with my I-pod touch, I can control volume from the I-pod touch or the speaker and it interact with each other. I hope this help you decide should you need one.

Doesn't last very long
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Background: I've owned the adapter for less than six months and mainly use it for Bluetooth audio. It works well out of the box for my uses, but has stopped working in less than six months of usage. Windows reports that the device has malfunctioned.
