This product needs a digital antenna.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product was very easy to install, however if you don't have an existing antenna,or if you just have a cable feed only, this produce WILL NOT WORK. I easily installed the box and completed the setups. After the channel scan was completed, no data was found. I had to return the box to the store. It was a complete waste of time and effort. So if this is you reading this review, just makes sure YOU HAVE AN EXISTING DIGITAL ANTENNA, if not, you will be wasting your time too. I would recommend to a friend only if he/she has a digital antenna.

Converter Box won't draw in some major stations
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I normally don't like to complain and try and be positive but i have had not one, but two bad experiences with this converter box and am beside myself as to what to do. I had a Magnovox box for over 7 years and had no problems until it finally went kaput a few weeks ago. So I ordered my new Insignia box from Bestbuy.com. After it arrived, I hooked it up, followed all the directions and scanned for channels. It did not find the FOX network channel 6, which is a strong local channel, and most of the PBS channels. I called a tech support guy with insignia and he spent an hour on the phone having me try everything from unplugging the unit and rebooting it to doing a factory reset, to doing several scans after moving my antenna around. I should note that I have a good, amplified antenna. Nothing helped and later that day the unit wouldnt even turn on. I decided to exchange it for another one at the nearest Best Buy store but they had none available and told me they were discontinuing carrying it. I drove across town to another Best Buy and found one and exchanged it. When I got home, installed it, did a scan and I still couldnt draw in the channels I needed. i know it wasnt my TV or connections causing the problem because I hooked a converter box I'm using on my bedroom TV to my living room TV temporarily and it drew in all the channels. Ive read some really good reviews on this product but it doesnt seem to work for me. Maybe there's a black cloud hanging over mean to have such bad luck? If anyone has any advice i would appreciate it?

misleading
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.no where in the description or the specifications does it inform you the item is only used in over the air antenna applications. so I purchased it. when it arrived on the outside of the box it says antenna required and it did not work with my in coming tv cable. it would have been nice to know the capabilities of the device before purchasing it and wasting my time. I tried going to the store and talking to a human about what I needed but they are not sold in stores.

Works very well,easy to install.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this box to hook up to my office tv where I don't have satellite. While I can only get 4 out of the 7 local channels I have, they come in crystal clear. The info tab works great too.

I expect better
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first Insignia DTV converter displayed a info box on channel 11-3 which obscured the screen and I got stuck in 21 channels, the box stopped responding, had to turn it off to get past the glitch. The second DTV converter doesn't indiscriminately display a info box, but it is very difficult to change channels, (pressing a button can turn the box off, or the box will be slow to respond, or won't respond at all,) seldom displays relevant information about shows you're watching, (information from earlier in the evening will still be displayed 6 hours later,) and doesn't allow you to return to previously viewed channels, (you have to scroll through every channel or manually enter the channel.) My first DTV converter was a Maganavox and if I could find another, i'd buy it in a heartbeat. I'm sorry to say that I DON'T RECOMMEND Insignia. A multitude of channels doesn't make up for it's unwieldiness and unreliability.

Narration nightmare - can't get rid of it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Spanish pops on. Narration also-tried everything. Even went to Insignia "help" on the Internet: Others have the same problems and don't get good answers nor true help.

Disappointing ...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Owned the converter for just under 2 months, and it developed digital interference lines across all channels (think digital "static"). Tried different antennas, different rooms, different power outlets, different TVs, and different output (coax versus RCA cables). From the other reviews, appears to not be a very reliable box. I will NOT be buying another Insignia.

Not a good buy!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this digital converter box yesterday. I have 2 others that are not Insignia that work fine. I had one of them in my kitchen where I put the Insignia box asking with the clear TV antenna and it works fine. However, this box will not pick up any channels. I have changed up the antenna and still nothing. I am returning it to the store for a full refund now.

Run away
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Run away from this hunk of junk. It buzzed with interference intermittently from the moment I got it, but I just lived with it. Then after only eight months, it lost audio on four channels. Don't waste your money like I did on this rip-off.

It's ok.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.CONS: Remote DOES NOT have recall button for channels. Cannot delete channels you do not want. Closed caption set up was a confusing.

No favorites/channel delete
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pain in the butt! Using the channel up/down button -- the most common method of channel surfing -- you have to scroll through every single channel to find one you want. With my older, cheaper model Insignia I could delete all the religious, home shopping and Spanish channels. With this model I cannot. Channel surfing takes forever. I'm returning it.

Complete Junk
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. From my experience, all converter boxes are garbage but this one takes the cake. I used it for a couple of hours then I shut it off and went to bed. The next morning, it powered on but all I got was snow. I had to leave it unplugged for ~20 minutes to get it to work again. It ran for an hour, then the picture started to flicker for a couple of minutes, then it just died. Brand new. Straight out of the box. I got at least a full year of service out of other converter boxes. I am convinced that this is how electronics companies force us to buy new TVs instead. Don't waste your money.

Posted .Thank you for your feedback and taking the time to review the Insignia™ - Digital TV Converter Box. We want to clarify that this product does include a Channel Scan feature, which automatically programs all local digital channels that are received from your antenna. Please note that the antenna must be connected prior to running the Channel Scan. This may explain why the channel scan did not work for you. We do sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.
