A: Yes, you may use the converter box in place. The only down side is that you will no longer be able to watch cable TV. You will be able to get up to about 44 channels of regular TV on these boxes. Pro: no more fees Con: no more cable Depending on what TV you have, Flat screen v. the bulky older version, you may also need to buy an antenna. If you own a flat screen, then you may not need a converter box. Just the antenna.
Q: What service can this box replace?
A: It replaces Pay TV. If you don't need all those premium channels and fluff. Basic networks work for me.
Q: Will this converter work on new and old Tvs?

Q: Does it have a "built-in-tuner" or "auto tune?" Do I need to buy a special kind of antenna for it?
A: I was researching converter boxes on the Consumer Reports website and found that we do need at least an indoor antenna to get UHF and VHF signals. Rabbit ears won't do as they work only in VHF and digital channels operate mostly in UHF. Q: How many Channels do you receive?
A: I get about 30 channels.
Q: would it also work with satalite dish or antenna?
A: We only use an antenna, but, we get good reception where we live!
Q: Will this replace a Phillips FTR 9955 Receiver and receive regular cable
A: Don't know, I used mine for antenna to get analog channels on digital tv
Q: Does this item have an auto on feature in case of power outage?
A: This unit does not have a Auto On feature. If it shuts down due to a power outage it would have to be turned on manually.
