I purchased this for my Father after he was no longer able to plug his analog wireless earphones into the new Direct TV Genie Lite receiver. The options were purchase $300 Sennheiser rs 175 earphones that have a digital input or $150 gaming earphones that have a mic in the way or this $30 converter. Luckily the Genie Lite was able to produce PCM digital out signals. Some other devices may only have Dolby Digital Out available. For that you can search for converters that can convert Dolby Digital to analog.

My Xbox One doesn't have analog audio, so I purchased this converter so I could connect to my PC speakers. The sound is great!

Thought I was going to have to replace my receiver but this allows me to get my sound from my modern tv to my ole school stereo LOL!

I bought two of these, one for my tv and one for my pc. The sound quality is definitely better than the line in/out I was using. It took some fiddling with my pc to deal with some "popping" that was happening but it's been fine for a week now. Overall this is a great solution for configuring certain speaker sets with a digital line out, especially for the price.

It works well with an LG 65UK6090PUA tv. Once one figures out how to set the TV to PCM.

Using computer optical out into studio monitors (RCA), no hum, great sound.

This does what it's supposed to, but my experience is that if it has no input signal for some period of time, it "times out" and must be restarted by removing the power cord, and plugging it back in. Minor nuisance, but I certainly can't hide it out of the way, like I intended.

PCM is one of several digital audio formats that your TV may use, and you may or may not be able to select that as an output from your TV. If your TV is delivering PCM audio streams, this devices will work fine, although the analog output is a bit low, so you will have to crank up the volume on your amp. If your TV is using another digital format, you are likely to hear some kind of motorboating sound. In my case, the audio was fine when listening to regular cable TV channels, but I got the motorboating when listening to Netflix or a DVD. Don't worry, you can get decoders at Amazon that handle the other formats - and they cost only slightly more. Look for 'decoder' not just 'converter,' and check on the digital formats that it works with. I wish the Best Buy rep knew this when they sold me the TV and this converter.

I haven't used this yet but I nicely built and arrived in good condition. I discovered I didn't need it but kept it anyway because I know I'll need it in the future.

Great option to use my old Sony unit with my new T.V.

All the new gadgets(tv's, gaming systems, etc) use hdmi & digital audio & I still have an older stereo receiver that works great but doesn't have hdmi or digital optical audio inputs so this worked out great! Allowed me to continue hearing stereo surround without having to spend another $300+ on a new stereo.
