If turned off and the power goes off, the device will power back on, powering on your device in the process. I would take it back, but I do not have the box any longer. Get a Kasa TPLink instead.

Thank you so much for choosing Insignia. Let me start by sayin that you are correct, our devices don't work with a hidden network. You can temporarily make the network visible, set up the insignia plug or switch and then change the network back to hidden. This won't affect the Smart Plug and it will continue to operate in that case.
