The Roomba 105 Combo Robot Vacuum & Mop has all the essential features we were looking for to assist in easily keeping our floors clean with its vacuum and mopping functions. Setup with the Roomba Home app is required on a 2.4 GHz network, though one’s phone can switch back to 5GHz when complete. The app gives the ability to customize cleaning via schedules, room selection, suction power levels, number of cleaning passes and even the amount of cleaning solution pumped onto the mopping pad. The Roomba 105 can be used in vacuum only, mop only, or combo vacuum and mop mode. Mopping mode can use water or cleaning solution and is simply added to the bin tank, and then the microfiber mopping pad is added. Our experience with the robot vacuums cleaning ability was good and the brushes do a nice job of getting along edges. LiDAR mapping scans the areas of the home prior to the initial cleaning with the ability to create up to three maps and on different levels of a home. The price is a good value given the features and customization options. It would be nice if one could access the bin without having to remove the vacuum from the charger, but it’s a minor inconvenience. Occasionally it struggles a bit with items that aren’t obviously an object such as the thin base of a ceiling fan it tries to navigate over.

The iRobot - Roomba 105 Combo Robot Vacuum & Mop comes nicely packaged. I couldn’t find any written instructions but there is a booklet with multiple safely suggestions. Hooking up the unit is quit easy and the charging station is very compact but not intuitive with which ends charges; but eventually the unit backs in correctly. I own multiple Roomba vacuums so I have experience with how they work. With this one, it took me a while to figure out how the mopping function works and where to add the water. It is a very small tank. The one pad would quickly become dirty and I don’t think this function is ready for prime time. The unit does vacuum well and unlike earlier version, it doesn’t just wander aimlessly throughout the house but actually follows a meaningful pattern. It also didn’t get hung up on the vents or any of my area rugs. When it gets done, it go s back to the charging unit automatically. The amount of dirt and dustballs collected is impressive and you can’t imagine that your house is this dirty. This one does not self empty. Overall, this Roomba has been significantly improved from earlier models but I wouldn’t expect the wash pad to actually clean large areas of the floor. I was not able to get it connected to the app and probably because I have other Roombas connected. These devices are real time savers and I find them very useful.

Budget vacuum bot with a little bite

Starting with the obvious, this is not the premium, self-emptying, ultra-smart Roomba. The Roomba 105 is the basic version that skips the fancy auto-empty base station, which means you’ll be doing some hands-on post-cleaning maintenance. Still, it does come with a self-charging dock, so at least you’re not chasing it down with a charging cord.
I knew what I was getting into when I picked this up. I wanted something budget friendly, that could handle a decent daily floor sweep and maybe a light mop here and there without breaking the bank.
Right out of the box, I ran into a bit of a hiccup. You need to connect the Roomba to the Roomba app, and while the app looks intuitive, it gave me some issues during the first-time setup. The software updates took longer than expected, possibly user error, but honestly, it should’ve been easier. It just felt a little more complicated than it needed to be.
Once you’re in and it’s updated, you’re greeted with a nice interface where you can map your home using the onboard LiDAR navigation. That part’s pretty cool. It does a decent job drawing out your space, and from there you can label rooms and create custom cleaning zones.
For a vacuum bot in this price range, I was actually impressed. The Roomba 105 gets around the house with straight line cleaning patterns, which is way better than the old bump and wiggle bots. The suction is more than enough for daily dust, pet hair, crumbs, and light debris on hard floors and low rugs.
That said, when it comes to obstacles, it's hit or miss. It’s great at detecting larger objects, but when it comes to smaller stuff like toys, socks, or even low lying items, it’ll sometimes just push them around unless the front bumper makes contact. Shoes and cords same deal, it’ll just nudge them aside and hopefully doesn’t run them over.
Now for the mopping feature, yes, it exists, but manage your expectations. You have to manually attach the mop pad using a Velcro and snap pad, fill the dustbin reservoir with water (since it doubles as the mop tank). It doesn’t scrub or actively clean, it just drags a damp cloth behind it. It does have a water pump that provides plenty of water to get the pad wet and apply that to the floor. On smooth, lightly dirty floors, it’s fine. Not great. Just… fine. Think of it more as a “shine refresh” than a real mop. It will not lift sticky messes or clean grout.
One thing I do appreciate is how easy it is to clean. The dust bin pops out quickly, and rinsing it is a breeze. You’ll want to empty and rinse it after every run, especially since there’s no self-empty base station to do it for you.
For a the budget minded person who wants a smart cleaning bot this will fit the bill.

Mop and Vacuum with ease

Long time Roomba user here, first time using a combo unit. I have always liked our Roomba’s over the years and was finally ready to try out the combo unit for mopping of our hardwood and tile surfaces. This unit has a 4 stages of cleaning to really clean your floors. The LiDAR system quickly maps your home. In the past I have had a few different models and the maps are good but could have been more precise. This system is the best yet from my experience.
I was nervous about using a combo unit, as I was worried that it would not locate my rugs and would try to mop over them. So far this unit has done an excellent job of detecting rugs while mopping and not going over them. As things tend to shift in the home (rugs slide around) and may not be exactly where they were when I mapped the home, the unit does a great job of detecting the rug while mopping. Very impressed with this so far.
I really appreciate being able to fully control and schedule the types of cleaning I want to do. I can do vacuum on, mop only, or both. And I can schedule these for the days/times I want them to run. Love this flexibility. As with other models I am also able to target specific areas/rooms or set it for the entire house. The mobile app works great and it even works with the common voice activated home devices.
Set up was a breeze, and that has been my experience with all the different Roomba’s I have had over the years. Even a first time user will be able to set this up with ease.

Our dog Milo has grown accustomed to our two existing robot vacuums diligently following him around the main level to clean up what feels like a million pounds of dog hair he sheds each day. Milo does not use the bathroom in the house so we’ve never gotten to test how well the robots avoid piles of dog mess, but they get plenty of obstacle avoidance practice with a myriad of oddly shaped dog toys that Milo scatters around the main level. Our main level is hardwoods which are the best surface to have when dealing with robot vacuums at their current level of technical maturity. Milo likes to take food from his dog bowl and eat it on the rug in our living room. We now spread out an old beach towel on the rug which Milo uses as his food staging ground. The robots do not respond well to this beach towel. The robots try to eat the towel and get trapped on top as the towel and cry out for help on a daily basis. So we’ve now grown accustomed to picking up the towel before before the robots start cleaning, and since we already are picking stuff up we end up collecting most of the dog toys in the surrounding area as well. It’s kind of like when you hire a maid to clean your house but then you go around cleaning up before the maid arrives which makes you question why you hired the maid in the first place. But that’s life with a dog and a robot vacuum. So how is this Roomba adjusting to being the third robot on the cleaning block?
I’ll start with mopping. This Roomba uses the long cloth mopping pad that basically gets wet from the internal water chamber and then gets dragged across the floor. There’s a small vibration to the motion but it’s not the best mopping experience. Attaching the mopping pad is also a royal pain in the rear as it uses two offset holes where the pad is inserted and they are spaced just far enough apart that you kinda snap the pad into place. The instructions say you are supposed to remove the pad before each use and wet it, then attach it and then let it do it’s thing. Our two other robots have docking stations with auto mop cleaning and drying capabilities so for us this extra effort is annoying. Roomba sells a dock for this but we do not have it so my first recommendation would be to buy the dock. When Milo tracks mud in from the backyard the Roomba struggles to clean up the paw prints unless we instruct it to clean the room multiple times. The water tank in the unit is tiny and holds very little water and cleaning solution, and there’s no sensor telling you that the unit is out of water, making it extremely annoying to use this thing as a mop. Overall we’ve learned to avoid this style of mopping pad and we prefer the robots that use two circular mopping pads that spin while mopping.
On the vacuuming side, the Roomba is doing a great job. The floor it cleans are hardwoods with a large area rug in the living room. The floor includes a dining room and the kitchen with a large kitchen island with bar stools along with an office. The Roomba drives faster than the other two robots so it’s always the first to reach the destination and it’s quite good at avoiding the other robots when they are in the same space cleaning. The motor is quiet and it does a great job collecting Milo’s hair. There’s no sensor telling us the container is full which is yet another reason why this thing really needs to be paired with the docking station so that it will auto empty after every cleaning. So far the mapping technology is working well, but like all robot vacuums there are still spots in the house where the robot gets stuck and needs help recovering. It’s a silly thing but one of the most impressive things the Roomba did recently is that I moved the charging station to the other wall while it was cleaning one day. It found its way back to the charging station as if nothing had changed. Impressive. The other two robots would have never achieved this level of common sense.
The Roomba iOS app is cleverly designed to be practically idiot proof, offering a clean and simple interface and the automations for cleaning would allow us to set and forgot this thing like we do with the others if we also bough the docking station. I should note that Roomba does not offer Amazon Alexa or Apple HomeKit integration. We run Home Assistant and there is an integration through the Home Assistant platform which we are going to try to use with it but the lack of native support for home automation is a disappointment.

I love having this iRobot Roomba combo vacuum. This wqs super easy to set up using the app. I love how you can map out your entire house or just certain rooms. This combo vac can vaccum up dust, dirt, and debris, and also mop your floor as well. It works great for daily cleanings, deep cleaning, and any spills from my children. It has a long lasting battery life. It is super quiet while running so its great for not waking any of the kids up in early mornings or disturbing you while you do work. Its also great for picking up any hair. You can achedule it to run or you can manually run it. This has made cleaning alot wasier on me and has given me more free time. I havent had any issues with it running, the app has continued to work great for me, and the cleaning process has been amazing. Overall i highly recommend this for automatic vaccuming and mopping. The tank is also easy to dump out and holds a good amount before having to dump it. If you are wanting a little extra spare time then this is great for helping you around your home.

Love the new Lidar based Roomba! It's a huge improvement in mapping and suction. I like the split rooms feature in the app for better spot clean.
