This roomba stood the test of time for 3 years. The only reason I upgraded was I needed a roomba that self emptied

Looked at the 690 and then upgraded to the 960. What a difference in the automation. The 960 is the only one that you can set and forget. Have not got stuck, and been through dining chairs etc. Finally, a model that is a truely automatic and you will not regret purchasing this. Don’t waste your time with the 690 or lower end models. This one is it!!

This was my first robot vacuum and I love it! I bought a second one for upstairs from a less expensive brand and the 2 of them have brought so much ease to my daily work

This vacuum is capable of so much. When integrated with IFTTT, it can be almost everything you want. The auto charge and continue cleaning function makes the battery capacity a non-issue for normal sized houses. The biggest problem with this technology is the small capacity of the dustbin. Without auto-empty functionality, the ability of the Roomba to clean effectively is limited without direct supervision. I honestly wonder why Roomba has not made a home station and dustbin that allow auto-empty. This would allow this robot to constantly clean your home with very limited supervision.

    Biggest waste of money ever!

I've had this roomba for over 6 months now and my experience with it continues to deteriorate. When I first got it, I was excited. For days, I'd watch it vacuum the apartment for me, delighting at the fact that I don't have to do it anymore. That is until I saw how poor of a job it actually did. If you think buying this roomba means never having to pick up a vacuum or broom again, think again. You still have to manually vacuum all the areas the roomba can't reach (which is A LOT) and you have to supervise it like it's a little child because it gets into all kinds of trouble on its own. Here are the things I like about it: - Quiet on the carpet - Ability to make scheduled cleans - sometimes goes back to the charging station Here are the things I DONT like about it: - it can't reach 20-30% of a room to clean it - it gets stuck on just about EVERYTHING and constantly needs attention - after you clear the obstruction, it decides the battery is suddenly empty even though a second ago it was vacuuming just fine - if you don't align the roomba with the charging station with 100% precision, you'll be unpleasantly surprised to find that your roomba has just been sitting there for days not charging at all - sometimes it gives up in the middle of cleaning and wants you to carry it to the charging station for a recharge - the app constantly needs attention because the scheduled cleaning fails at least once a month - the company was too cheap to let you use 5ghz wifi so you have to use 2.4ghz on your mobile device or else you can't use the app (you suck, roomba) - the roomba is able to talk and yet it's silent 95% of the time - The roomba has a home button that does nothing. It can't even find it's way back to the charging station from 1 foot away - and so much more! The technology just isn't there yet. And for the price they're asking.. what a rip off. Unless you're a minimalist and you live in a flat with no complicated furniture, don't waste your money. Wait another 20 years. I'm so sick of this roomba.

    Robot with small brain

Most often this Roomba fails to return to base for recharge leaving itself stranded. I have to manually return it to the base for charging. But when recharged the Roomba starts at the beginning of the job. The app does not enable the user to specify which area or rooms to be cleaned. So it most often it never really finishes cleaning the whole first floor. If i just want to clean the kitchen floor (or any other portion of the house) the only way is to block the Roomba using doors plus the infrared device but most often this doesn’t work. The lack of ability to control the area to be cleaned using the app is a major drawback in my opinion. Keep in mind it takes the Roomba about 3 hours to vacuum the entire floor. The roomba often gets stuck as it rams hard into my furniture. It has damaged the wood trim on my couch. Even though I has an map of the floor stored in memory, it just rams into furniture. I had friends arrive for dinner while the Roomba was cleaning. I used the app to cancel the job and send it home. But it just kept cleaning, ignoring the command. I pushed the home button on the unit but it still kept cleaning. Finally I had to pick it up and carry it to the base. Needless to say my friends were not impressed nor was I. Though we did have a laugh saying we don’t have to worry about “smart” robots taking over for humans if this device is representative of robots of the future. It seems like IRobot really skimped on the software and testing. Overall cleaning is just ok, but the product controls are a major disappointment. I would not recommend especially given the high price.

The most perfect little robot buddy/vacuum!!

We adore our Roomba. It is very quick to learn and you can watch it start to remember where walls and furniture are over time. We have it set to go off at a specific time every day, and it will keep cleaning until it has either gone through our (small) house multiple times or it begins running low on batteries. It is such a relief knowing that our floor will be cleaned daily and we don't have to worry about random crumbs in the kitchen or hairballs piling up in the corner. It is small enough to fit under a lot of our furniture (dresser, couch, bookshelf, etc) so we don't have to worry about getting underneath there ourselves. The Roomba is sensitive and gets "nervous" easily. It will not go over our thresholds from hardwood to carpet, so when we want those rooms clean we need to pick it up and take it into the room. Once it's on the carpet, everything is fine. It also worries that it's "stuck on a cliff" when in reality it just ran over a plant tendril or the corner of a blanket. Most importantly, it is very fun to watch it roam around the house! Almost like having a little pet!

My wife didn't know she was getting a Roomba and I didn't know I was getting a puppy. Well, they both arrived the same day... The two go together well. The Roomba runs everyday and keeps all the pet hair (and other household dirt) at bay. Can't imagine life without it.

Fred is our new best friend!

It took me several months to talk the wife into buying the Roomba 960 who we named Fred but after owning it for a month I believe she likes it more than I do. Everything I read about this product is true. Fred is very detail oriented and when he is done in a room every square inch has been cleaned (save for the corners and places he can't reach). It is just wonderful to see the job he does every time he runs. Having a background in mechanical engineering I have to say it is fun to watch him work. The reason for 4 stars as opposed to 5 is that he requires a fair amount of attention due to the size of the dust bin and the fact that the floor area he works on is a bit over 2,000 sq ft of which most is carpeted. We have one dog with long hair and Fred seems to deal well with that due to the rubber rollers this model has but the dog hair is what fills the dust bin so quickly. Bottom line is I really like Fred a lot and even the wife is very happy with him !

This is the Roomba to buy!

I originally bought a Roomba 890 because I thought I didn't need the enhanced navigation. After one run of the 890 where it got "stuck" spinning in a corner with wide open space around it, I exchanged it for a 960. I am so happy with the 960. Even in my small apartment, it navigates from room-to-room and gets smarter as it goes along (you can see it slow down as it approaches obstacles that it has seen before). I don't have thick carpet, so I didn't need the boost motor of the more expensive 980. The setup process was very fun and the app is great. I never thought I would enjoy watching a vacuum work, but I do and I look forward to it cleaning! I highly recommend it and if you are thinking about the less-expensive 890, get the 960 instead!

    Great iRobot, frustrating Wi-Fi

First - I love this model. I love that it will return to the dock, recharge, then finish the job. I love the way my floors look. I love that someone/thing besides me is cleaning. Five stars for how happy I am with the equipment. The app and connecting it to Wi-Fi? A pain. It wouldn't work. Had to call the help line, reboot the Roomba, reboot the router, and somehow it worked. Now I want to use the mapping. "Want to see maps of where Roomba cleaned?" Yes. Yes I do. "Update Roomba's Software". Okay. "This update will take a couple of hours - we'll let you know when the update is complete!" I've seen that several times now. Eventually it will tell me there's no connection. Sigh. I know I'll get this figured out. It's probably a simple thing. But it's been a pita. Having said that, yes I'd still recommend it because I'm so happy with the job it's doing. I would just warn a friend that setup can be irritating, and it shouldn't be.

My favorite gadget in the world

My son bought this for me for Mother's Day and I absolutely love it ! Even after I vacuum and mop , it still fills the bin with dirt. It goes under furniture and the bed which I may do once every six months if I'm really feeling energetic . It saves me so much time cleaning up after kids and pets and does a very thorough job. My house is 2600 sq feet so many times , it takes two charges to complete the job . The battery life is amazing and goes for over an hour and a half each cycle ! The best thing is the customer service at Roomba. Right after Thanksgiving, my roomba encountered some water and it fried the electronics . I was devastated and called customer service and had a brand new replacement within a week ! I highly recommend this !

No major complaints about its cleaning ability. However the software not updating. It connects to my WiFi network without issues but robot will not update software. iRobot claims to be working on problem. My router is an Apple airport. 5 star review if my issue gets fixed
