Many find it effective for pet hair removal, and while some mention the noise level, others find it acceptable. However, customers frequently cite navigation issues and a small dustbin as drawbacks, along with concerns about battery life.

    Ecstatic

My wife is positively ecstatic with the Roomba 960. We've only had it 24 hours, but have used it to clean our first floor, and our bedroom on the 2nd floor. We have a Husky that hides under our bed, so you an imagine the mess. On its first run in this room, we had to empty the bin numerous times (expected). Subsequent runs are not expected to be as tough. The first floor was completed on one charge. Gets into corners just fine, and did a great job of picking up everything, including dog and cat hair in corners. Makes it over "transition" pieces on our vinyl laminate floors with no issues. It also makes it over our three throw rugs and cleans them well.

I love this new appliance, I recommend it to anyone that knows that I own one. One less thing to do around the house, when you have a million and one things to do. The machine does a great job at picking up whatever is on the floor. My floors are clean. Very easy set up. It is a bit loud to run at nights when the kids are asleep. So I run mine during the day, 4 times a week. If you’re thinking of getting one, just do it. I regret not buying the moment I had said I wanted one 2 years ago. So far no problems

    Does not pick pet hair

I was expecting more from this roomba and am not impressed with it. It doesn't clean all areas and definitely does not pick up pet hair on carpet. It just pushes it around into little balls. I thought maybe the bin needed to be emptied and it still did not pick up anything off of carpet. It misses a lot of areas on hardwood too. The virtual wall doesn't work very well either. The roomba will start to go around it then just goes right through it hesitantly. Yes, I used fresh batteries too. And when cleaning the bin the roomba has to be spotless like brand new with not a single spec of anything or else I keep getting empty bin signal and it won't run. I understand cleaning the sensors but this truly is ridiculous. I would not recommend this model. We definitely paid too much for below mediocre outcome.

    Didn't work as expected

It started out great. I had to empty bin after each cleaning before it would resume cleaning. After about a week and a half, instead of resuming cleaning where it left off, it would start over again. Soon after, it would not be able to find home base. Battery would go dead on the floor. When I would place unit on base, it would recharge, but not blink indicating it would resume cleaning where it left off.

    stuck caster = floor damage

    Posted .

Our house is on one level with carpet, ceramic tile, and laminate plank and parquet floors. I was pleased with the 960 up until the day I realized the front caster wheel resisted rotation. That sent me to the manual, where I found this on p. 6: "Important: A front wheel clogged with hair and debris could result in floor damage." Sure enough, I found many scratches and scuffs, in lines and arcs, on the laminate surfaces created by the stuck wheel. I had serviced the unit after each use (once a week), but took the caster wheel for granted: if it swiveled freely, I assumed all was well. The wheel wasn't visibly clogged. Dust had gotten between the axle and wheel. You have to disassemble the caster to clean it. I regret not paying more attention to the front caster wheel. On the other hand, iRobot should do more than a footnote to assure the downside isn't so steep.

Overpriced for what little suction you get.

Overpriced for what you get. I have heard so much about these vacuums and read the reviews. I debated and debated and finally broke down to get one. I have two dogs, one a chihuahua that loves to shed. After having one for three-four weeks, the best that I can it is overpriced. Does it pick up dog hair? Yes. Does it vacuum everything? No. You will still have to vacuum and that is on a bare floor. It gets stuck on small rug carpets, Likes to ride around and around in the same area. I have a vacuum with a light on it and if I go behind it, I can still see pet hair and other matter on the bare floor after the Roomba has been doing her "zoomba" time and time again. For a light pickup, knowing that you must go over with a vacuum, its okay. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't..

We bought a Roomba 960 for our downstairs area. It worked so well we got a second for the upstairs. Our floors have never looked better. In addition to vacuuming, the polish our hardwood floors. We do not us it on carpet, though it does a good job on area rugs.

Pretty good for an older, basic Roomba. It's not super graceful ( it slams into things frequently) but generally cleans fairly well. Was good for its time.

    Don't worry about robot overlords

Absolute proof that skynet is not happening anytime soon. You buy it, take it home, charge it overnight, and it will vacuum your floors for about 20 minutes. It will do this for about a week. Then it will have hair or other things clog the rollers and dust bin. You'll take it all apart, clean it, and it will be good for another week, maybe. During this time, it won't park itself correctly on the pad so it won't charge. Even when you put it on the charging stand yourself, it will only charge about half the time. After 3 weeks of frustration, you buy a refurbishment kit that contains new rollers and brushes but by then, the robot refuses to charge. Folks, it's a piece of crap. If you have an empty house with no pets or children, and need this to run once a week, then you're golden. If you actually expect this thing to vacuum your living space once per day; this ain't it.

    Great BUT......

We returned it after 10 days. It's smart, works great BUT it does not transition from hard wood floors to carpets very well. We had one small, medium shag rug, in living room and it got stuck EVERY TIME. I tried short cuts and ultimately it failed to make us satisfied. Great if you have one type surface or super low carpet.

Not sure what incompetent snowflake was responsible for AI programming, but vacuum will go across house directly from location to location it was previously stuck in. You would think even a junior high graduate would program it to avoid locations where it became disabled. No, this device goes directly between the 4 locations it gets stuck in. Repeatedly. One to the other. Repeatedly. Therefore you must watch it constantly. The time spent rescuing it would be better spent vacuuming yourself.

    Damages rugs!

did ok job of cleaning tile floor but damaged a rug. So i returned product to Best Buy. The rep informed me to call Roomba about repairing my rug. But corporate refuses to even consider any monetary reimbursement because i did not send the machine back to corporate with the rug fringe still inside the machine! Best Buy should have told me that - but regardless, corp should have helped pay for the damage with pictures, product receipts, etc.

    Very noisy

I wanted to upgrade from my Shark Ion to the Roomba for better performance and I figured for more than double the price it would be great. I was very disappointed. It makes a very loud "Whirling" sound on my hardwood floors and performed poorly, it could not figure out my kitchen ( pretty square) and missed over 1/2 the room, it got stuck on the tiles and just turned around and ignored the rest of the room. It was quieter on the carpet but had a very tough time picking up any pet hair, it just rolled it into clumps and wouldn't even pick that up. I let it run a complete cycle and it missed several rooms and left wide swaths of floor untouched. Just for comparison, I ran my Shark Ion and frankly it did a much better job of cleaning the pet hair up and hitting just about every corner in each room. though it too is a little noisy, it is much quieter that the Roomba. and does a much better job. Glad that BB has a 15 day return policy. It is all packed up and ready to be returned. I'll be sticking to my Shark.

Works OK, but gets stuck every time

The Roomba 960 does a great job on hardwood floors. The app is pretty decent and the mapping tool is cool. However, we have used it 8 times now while at work, and it has gotten stuck all 8 times. By the time we get home, the battery is dead and we have to reschedule for the next day. It gets stuck against furniture, yanks power cords out and then gets stuck on them, has climbed on top of a pair of shoes and gotten stuck, and climbed on top of some electronic equipment and scratched it all up. It navigates carpet/rugs of any height quite well, however all it does is suck up carpet/rug fibers and fill up the dirt container, so that even if it wasn't getting stuck it would be full and not able to finish the job. It also starts depositing large chunks of carpet/rug fibers around the house making things worse. We haven't had one complete job yet, which is getting frustrating for a $700 vacuum. I guess it would be OK if we were home to quickly get it unstuck, but I got this so I didn't have to be home and/or participate in the cleaning. Will be giving it a few more chances before I return.

Don’t buy the 960 model if you have pets.

Don’t buy the Roomba 960 model if you have pets. With this latest model iRobot switched out the old brush rollers with rubber rollers. These rubber rollers do not work picking up pet hair. All it does is leave fur balls around your house. So if you have pets do not buy the 960 model.

It picks up everything except what it is supposed to. This is the WORST Roomba I have ever owned. It leaves dirt all over the floor and gets stuck on EVERY rug and cord in the house. My old Roomba didn't do this. I am not sure why it has so many positive reviews. I have tried to clean the floor on 6 separate occasions, and it even gets stuck on the threshold molding between the tile and laminate floor. It is much louder than my old Roomba.
