Nice small but hefty product to charge essential devices in the event of a power outage. Powerful enough to charge a mini fridge, TV, and phone at the same time! Stays charged for a couple of weeks and comes with both wall and car charger to recharge it. Each power source has it's own on/off switch so as to not waste power when not using it. Led display screen lets you know how much power is being used to charge the device. It is advertised as a solar power generator, that's not the case. You actually need solar panel attachment (sold separately) to recharge the product. That doesn't deserve a star off. It is still a 5 star product for its performance.

I’ve been looking for a battery generator to take on weekend camping trips for a long time and Jackery has always caught my eye. They’ve always had great reviews and seemed to offer tons of power to charge whatever I needed on overnight camping trips. My only problem was the ones I kept seeing were expensive because they offered so much power. Then came this 290! The price point was great and based on the specs it would charge my phones and devices on a weekend camping trip no problem. Out of the box this thing is dead simple. It comes with an AC and DC adapter to charge it and let’s you charge devices with a normal 120v outlet, 2 usb and a cigarette lighter. Charging up via wall outlet takes a few hours, so I just left it and came back to a fully charged generator before our trip. From what I understand, charging via cigarette lighter takes forever so I didn’t even try it. There is also an option to purchase Jackery solar panels that can charge on the go. This is a really cool idea, but the panels are outrageously expensive and you can only use proprietary panels on the Jackery, no third party here. The device held a charge great, I’ve used it to charge cell phones and laptops and even ran a PA system off of it for a little while and had no trouble getting through a weekend camping trip. One of the biggest surprises was how light this generator was. It is considerably lighter than I expected, which made it great for hiking into camp. I would say this is perfect for a weekend warrior, though if you are needing continuous power or have devices that are very power hungry, I would recommend getting one of the bigger Jackery. But if you just need to charge phones, run some camp lights for a few hours this is perfect!

Being fairly new to the off-road world and camping, I had heard the name/brand "Jackery" and their power units from so many. I though to myself, "how can such a small device power so much." I recently got the opportunity to get mu hands on the Jackery - Explorer 290. Again, I kept questioning its ability due to size. In the box, you get the Explorer 290, charging adapter, a nice storage bag with an "cigarette lighter" style cable. It came with a good amount of charge, so it only took about an hour to get it to 100%. We went out on a mini camping trip, which was the perfect opportunity to try the Explorer 290 out. Man-o-man did I underestimate this little baby. I was highly impressed at the power output and capability of the Jackery Explorer 290. We tried it out by plugging in our 55" and watched a 1.5 hour movie and still had some juice left! No more having to carry around a noisy generator on these small trips. For the price, the Explorer 290 was more than enough for our mini camping trip. Another thing that I love about Jackery power packs is the ability to recharge them using their solar panels. Although I do not have their solar panel yet, that is my next investment. Don't think twice and make the purchase. You will NOT be disappointed. This not only saves a bunch of space, but packs a punch. I would highly recommend the Jackery Explorer 290.

Jackery Explorer 290 Portable Power Generator

Just received my Jackery Explorer 290 Portable Power Solar Power Generator a few days ago and have been testing it out. First off I must say that the build quality of this product is very sturdy and does not feel cheap. Along with the Jackery Explorer 290 comes an AC & AC Adapter, Car Charger Cable, cloth pouch, and user documentation. It's recommended to fully charge the power station before putting it to use, which took me roughly 5 to 6 hours for it to be fully charged. Simply plug in the wall adapter into the DC Input port on the front of the power station. Also on the power station is 2 standard USB ports, an AC Output port, as well as a Car Port. There is also a small LCD display on the front which illuminates when display button is pressed. This shows current battery power as well as power being used. Once fully charge, the power station is fairly simple and easy to use. Just plug in any small electronics you may need to charge or small appliances or devices, you may be using while out on a camping trip. Great for charging cell phones, tablets, laptops, or even a CPAP machine. I recently purchased and tested another similar power station by another company within the same price range as the Jackery 290, and that power station features a larger LCD display, an additional AC output port, as well as a USB-C port which comes in hand now that more and more products are switching over to USB-C. Now this is not necessarily a deal-breaker, but just wanted to state that point. The other power station was able to handle a bit more than the Jackery Explorer 290, but this is still a great product.

The Jackery 290 Portable Power Station is a very awesome, compact portable power generator. It is light weight, has a convenient carry handle, and has several useful options in terms of what you can plug in! It includes plug-in options for two USB ports, one standard three prong outlet, and one 12V outlet. It has a display that tells you what level of charge the battery has left. It has buttons next to each type of plug-in that lets you turn on the plugs/outlets that you need! The battery can be charged via a solar panel that is not included with the power generator, a plug in power adaptor, or with a 12V car adapter. This is very useful, especially if you camp on a regular basis or even if you have an emergency around the house and the lights go out. While it won't power large, power hungry devices, it will keep small devices running for a long time!

The perfect intro to "Battery Generators"

This will run my natural gas instant hot water heater for the house long enough to get all of the family ready for the day. My tankless water heater is gas but still needs about 60 watts to run while it is heating water, this equals more than 4 hours of constant hot water. It will also keep our cellphones charged up, 4 phones equal to about 29 hours per device in this, obviously if you use a gaming laptop or some work laptops it’s only about 2-3 hours of battery for that device. As you can start to see your use case makes this an awesome device. I wouldn’t bother trying to keep my fridge on with this, mine is really efficient and only uses about 120W to keep it at temp (it pops up when you open the door, and it has to cool the inside back down) that equates to a little over 2 hours. Not worth it to me. But what this guy is absolutely perfect for is a little bit of camping or even staying at someone’s house that is so old that there is only one outlet in the guest room. It will easily run a travel CPAP charge a phone and charge a watch through the night. Pretty much this is an outlet that I can put wherever for small things. Another use case for this was running the sound system an outdoor wedding reception. It was a small sound system (2 larger speakers, mixer box, and two wireless mics). I ran the system for about 5 hours and used about 50% of the battery. 290Whr is nice but one thing to keep in mind is the inverter. This has a 200W continuous output and a 400W instantaneous output. This is important to keep in mind. I have a 300W travel water heater that won’t work with this since it can only handle 200W on a constant basis. Pretty much having this size one just makes me want a larger one. One that could handle my projector, smoker, and other stuff that I would like to use where an outlet isn’t always convenient. The solar part of this is a bonus, no it doesn’t charge it up like you get when you plug it into the wall, but the fact that it can charge up when your out of power and you don’t have to go anywhere (say to get gas) is rather convenient. I love solar but I’m not sold on the cost effectiveness of it completely, I am sold on the advantages of a “battery generator” like this versus a gas generator with the ease of use (my 3-year-old has figured out how to plug the tablet into it and charge it), quietness, and overall package. But just like with a gas generator, you need to figure out your power needs before you buy one. I love readout that shows the instantaneous watts being used. This one has kind of helped me figure out which size I would actually need if I wanted to use it with my smoker which uses about 200w continuously so at a 4-hour smoke I need an 800Whr battery generator at the minimum. Overall, I love the handle on top that makes it easy to grab, the instantaneous power readout, the individual on buttons for the type of power output you want, and the solar option. I also love that it comes with a cord to charge it from the car and house. There are two cons to this device, the 200w continuous output, I wish it was higher; and I wish it had a 30W or more USB C output.

In my life I can think of hundreds of times this unit would have come in handy for power especially outdoors or during an outage post-hurricane (yeah, that happens a LOT in Florida!). This unit is powered by a cluster of 18650 cells and is really not much heavier than a 6-pack. Ports on it include a 120v outlet, 2 USB outlets (2.4 Amp), and one 12v car cigarette-lighter style plug. It can be charged off of an A/C connection (for those who plan ahead), off of 12 volt in your car (using the included cigarette lighter adapter), and lastly by using an optional (but not included) solar panel. To test it I unplugged our HiSense 50" TV from the wall and into the 120v outlet on the Jackery and commenced to watch TV until the battery went dead and the TV shut off , which you could easily monitor with the built-in display on the unit. Each time I tested I got a little more time out of it, so I believe it's a matter of "exercising" the batteries a little since it's new. 1st test - 1 hour 50 minutes, 2nd test 2 hours 10 minutes, 3rd test 2 hours 37 minutes and 4th test 2 hours 49 minutes. Great device to have though if you're in an area prone to power outages or if you're an outdoorsman, or even just for the casual camping trip. Use it for charging your phone/laptop, running a mini-fridge, or even just for a radio to monitor for local news or emergency information. An absolute must-have in my opinion!

"It is easy to charge. I left it in my garage and checked it the next day and it was still fully charged. It is straightforward to use, just plug and play. It is also lightweight. I only tested it with a lamp, and didn't test it with a TV or anything like that."

The Jackery Explorer 290 is something many people think of as just a camping accessory. True, that is a great use for it. But so are many other things. Having it in the vehicle, emergency power at home during a power outage, home projects, in the back yard away from an outlet, ect.. The uses are endless. You might think that it is rather large but it really isn't. About the size of a lunch box. With the USB, 12 Volt & household outlet there really isn't anything you can't use it for. For example, I do a lot of photography work. I tried using it for outdoor portraits when I needed to use one of my indoor (household) outlet lights. The Jackery had no issue with powering it for a long time. The power seems to last longer than you might expect based on the averages provided. Example would be I can charge my laptop at least 5 times. This model has a 200 watt peak output but smaller and larger models are also available. Recharging it takes between 5 & 6.5 hours depending on how you charge it. You can use the included power brick (fastest way), 12 volt thru your car's accessory port or with an optional solar panel. I haven't picked up a solar panel yet but plan to. There is an internal fan that will kick on as needed to keep the unit cool. This usually kicks on during charging but it's really not that loud. The digital display will give you input/output wattage readings, battery life. All very handy. For what this costs I can't say enough good about it. It's easy to use, very well made & it has more uses than you can probably imagine. And although I don't anticipate this not being "enough" for me, I do plan to eventually pick up one of the more powerful Jackery's.

    Handy Portable Charger

The Jackery Explorer 290 Portable Power Solar Generator is a handy device, but you should know the solar recharging kit is sold separately. I have thus far used it by either charging it via a standard wall outlet or via the 12v outlet in my car. both work. I was surprised that it reaches full charge only slightly faster via the wall outlet than it does via the 12v outlet. I was disappointed it did not include a means of solar charging, but I see Jackery does have bundles that do just that. The charger itself feels solid. It can power phones, computers, and similar devices for hours. You can also use it to power a vehicle fridge for your outdoor adventures or even small household appliances in an emergency. It has two standard USB ports (no USB-C) and 3-prong 110-volt plug. I wanted this unit because we enjoy camping and the small portable phone charges run out of juice pretty quickly. This Jackery unit claims to be able to fully charge a phone 29 times (so long as it is fully charged first). I can believe it. I am quite pleased with this charger and am looking forward to many trips with it.
