I purchased this refrigerator back in 2021 for over $4,000 and started having small problems until the last straw was that it completely stopped freezing! At first it would just shut off completely and when I would open the doors would no longer be cooling entirely. I blamed my self saying it was probably dude to leaving it slightly open even thought the alarm wouldn’t sound. After a couple resets it fixed itself then a while later my freezer wasn’t cooling enough. All on my ice cream was almost melted and to top it off I had all of my breast milk stored in the freezer which is no longer safe to use since it wasn’t freezing completely and had to throw it all out. If you’re a mom you know how frustrating this was being a just enough producer. After this one of the shelves LED lights stopped working too. I came here to see if Anyone else was having this problem and came to my surprise it is common for this model. If you look on Reddit many people talk about it too. Many customers mentioned continuing having the same problem even after the repair and hundreds of dollars down the drain. I lost hope but still completed a manual defrost on it and when we took the panel off the while freezing section and coils were FROZEN entirely. We spent HOURS melting the ice and after successfully doing the the freezer started working normally until it wasn’t. I thought I’d call customer service regardless to see if there was something we could do considering we spent thousands of dollars on things appliance that stopped working less than 3 years after purchasing it and to my surprise the representative said it had warranty for parts and labor for 5 years. I thought awesome it didn’t hurt to ask. Fast forward the company they hired comes out and checks it to find out the reason it’s not working is due to the evaporator fan not working but they could replace it for over $300. I was confused as I was told labor and parts where covered then was charged $118 service fee coming out to check. After he left and I paid I called kitchen to let them know that I was charged despite being told labor and parts were covered where I was then transferred 3 times until the last representative told me that I wouldn’t be covered unless it was the compressor and that if no one told me they couldn’t do anything about that. I continued to tell her how unethical it was to tell a customer that they are covered through warranty and expect them to pay almost $500 to resolve a faulty piece then she hung up on me. I wouldn’t of mind paying if I decided to make the choice to hire a company but I did not have the choice. Their practices are unethical and you’ll see after reading plenty of these reviews. Please take this all into consideration if you decide to buy any mejor appliances thought them. Do yourself a favor and research your best options and don’t let this be you needed to be stuck with a 4k appliance that doesn’t work less than 3 years later.

Love the design but ice maker and other issue

We like the design and looks but are not satisfied with it for the main two reasons that you read about if you fully research. The ice maker doesn't make ice very quickly. Also after owning it for over four years the ice maker stopped making ice, then the freezer stopped keeping food frozen and finally frig stopped cooling entirely. Service tech who is very experienced with this model said that the main issue is the copper tubing is soldered and sometimes leaks develop and it looses refrigerant over time. Says that manufacturer has recently modified how copper is attached to one of the compressors and seems to be better. Also says that homes need to have a surge protector at the main breaker box to protect electronics. We have one so have not had any issues with electronic boards etc that others have reported. Luckily the leak occurred just before the fiver year warranty so Kitchenaid covered problem. Also if your water is prefiltered by an RO unit make sure you don't also use the filter in the refrigerator. Take it out. Won't work well with both in place . We had taken ours out and after leak was repaired ice maker made ice well now after several months icemaker is not working quite as well again.???

Bought this Fridge January 2016. Worked well For about a month or so then water began to sit under left middle drawer and would freeze up continuously and leak water down the fridge to the ground creating a puddle in our kitchen. After about 6 repair visits over the next several months with this same issue; it was eventually deemed unfixable and replaced with a new unit. Few scratches on new unit, but my family was just happy to have a fridge/freezer again. 6 months later frost begins to build up on freezer portion causing major issues for our freezer. Repair man again called out a few weeks later and pulls on the seal to try and get it to seal better because he thinks that’s the issue. That didn’t work, but the icing did come and go intermittently which was more manageable then having a repair come out because I don’t believe they knew exactly what the issue was. Then one day open the freezer and temperature was 35 degrees and all food is bad. However the next day the freezer began to run at normal temperature, so we moved forward. We then put a manual thermometer in the freezer so we wouldn’t loose all our food again as we were gonna check it daily to verify temperature. A month or so later the freezer begins to ice up again and temperature fluctuations begin again as well. We call kitchen aid and they say it’s probably the seal and that is not covered it is a level one repair and can be don’t by the customer. The representative told us to go to a website, but we needed it immediately and found a KitchenAid dealer near us and bought the $100 dollar seal and replaced it. Guess what still sitting at 30 degrees and not getting to correct freezer temperature. Called kitchen aid and said they would send repair man out but if it’s seal it’s not covered and would be 90 dollars. We said okay because we changed seal and that did not work. Repair man calls us and stated with the problem we are Hainh it will not be covered and is 90 dollars for him to come no matter what. He was very rude and told him no thanks. This refrigerator has caused so much hardship to my family and I just wanted something that worked and looked nice doing it. I just can’t believe after everything my family had been through we get treated like this after the product didn’t work. It’s not our fault. Hope this helps someone’s family make the right choice for their major appliance needs. Kitchen Aid I hope you see this review and realize the impact the failure of not only your product but your customer service as well can do to a family.

Overall the fridge was very nice looking and worked great for the first year. Then the problems started with the ice maker not dispensing ice. That was fixed! Thank you geek squad! Then it started acting up again. Researched it online and found that the main board has been known to cause this problem. Replaced it and has worked great for the next year but started defrosting and had to move everything into ice chest. Purchased a back up fridge after this. First it stop’s dispensing ice then it defrost. I’ve replaced the filters for the air and water on a regular basis. Not sure why it keeps defrosting. Geek squad has been very helpful! Highly recommend the warranty through them as you never know what your going to get!

I like the way it looks, I like the drawers, but Geek Squad has been out here 6 times within a year and coming back next week. Because it was open box they will not replace but only give what I paid. I was told it was not defective and bought the warranty. Since BB will not replace I guess they will keep paying the nice Geek Squad repairman to come out.

My wife loves how she can organize the groceries in the main compartment and the 2 pull out drawers. The only thing I don't like is that my old kitchen aid fridge had 3 presets for water and this one doesn't. I miss when I put a glass under the spout and pressed a preset 12oz setting and it filled my glass without me having to hold the glass under and manually press the sensor the entire time to fill 12 oz. This new fridge has one preset setting and it is for 1 oz water and if you want to adjust it you have to hold the button until it moves from 1 to 2 to 3 and so on until it reached 12 oz. my last fridge I would hit a button one of three buttons that would fill a measurement that I programmed Into the fridge.

We needed a new fridge so when we went to Best Buy and my daughter fell in love with this fridge. It was delivered and installed and the only issue we had was that the 2 LED lights on both sides of the doors were not working. I went through Kitchen aid warranty support and they sent a repair guy out. He found that the wiring harnesses were never installed. They were going to replace the fridge but I missed a couple calls to set it up. When I tried to return the call, I was put on hold every time and always over 20-30 minutes. I received a letter that if I wanted to get the issue fixed, I would have to contact them within 2 weeks or the issue call would be closed out. All they give you is a phone number to call, and I tried calling 5 times and was always put on hold. I never got through, even when I called once waited for almost 40 minutes on hold. Will never buy kitchen aid or any other brand made by Whirlpool. Functionally it is a great fridge so far and I love the features, but Quality control at the factory and customer service is lacking.

    Worst fridge I ever owned

After just a little over 6 years, this refrigerator stopped working, the freezer and fridge area just aren't cooling/freezing anymore. Before this happened, we've been dealing with water leaks to the floor once in a while. The chiller area has stopped working. Water from the ice/water dispenser can sometimes spill into the chiller drawer and somehow penetrated the control panel and fried it. That hasn't been working for at least 4 years. The control panel (UI) still confuses me. The lighted control is actually not the button. It's actually below it. It's not intuitive. We've owned many KitchenAid appliances over the years, but it seems KitchenAid quality has gotten bad over the years. Calling KitchenAid repair/support will send you to a third-party service called Via Appliance. They specialize on Whirlpool and KitchenAid appliances. Unfortunately, my experience with their support hasn't been great either. After a $120 bill for the initial diagnostic, I was told to get another follow-up schedule for them to make a proper diagnostic when the fridge has been running for at least 24-hours -- which they never told me. They also told me that it will cost me upwards from $300 just for the parts alone. If you're thinking of buying a Whirlpool or KitchenAid products, consider getting an extended warranty. But then, even at that my extended warranty for 5 years wouldn't cover the repair cost.

    Too Many Issues

    Posted .

I absolutely love this refrigerator. They style, platinum interior and space is very nice. I like the five doors as well. Water dispenser is horrible but I love the refrigerator. I purchased it in October 2016 but since then it has had to be repaired three times. The freezer drawer seals were repaired because frost kept building up, then the frost would melt and the freezer would alternate between warm and cold and I lost food. After the seal was replaced, then the freezer drawer had to be replaced. Next the frig stopped cooling all together and I lost food again. Geek Squad Warranty is horrible as I've been out of a refrigerator for almost a month. They sent out a company, and when it was diagnosed as having a sealed system issue, they said the company they sent out was not authorized dealer to purchase Whirlpool parts still under warranty. Why they were sent to my house - I have no idea. They sent out another company which gave a different diagnosis and said it was the digital board and the thermostat wasn't working and there was nothing wrong with the sealed system. Geek Squad and the company communication was not successful. Eventually I requested an alternate solution and am shopping now for a new frig. I will not be purchasing this model again. For all the issues with the seals and cooling in less than 18 months, it's not worth my money to keep loosing food or my time to keep dealing with repairs. It's very beautiful and I love it. A month with no frig, great I lost weight. But biggest lesson learned. All that glitters ain't gold.

HUGE REGRET! Major issues and poor support!

We had this refrigerator delivered to our home in late January and it's been a nightmare. Last straw that drove this review was I had to shut off the water source this morning because I woke to find a huge puddle of water from the ice/water dispenser leaking. Great timing...today is 4th of July in San Antonio! Thanks Pacific Sales/Kitchen Aid! The parade of problems began at first week of delivery. The freezer was frosting all food badly. We called and were told it might be because it was new and would clear up. After it didn't, we finally got a technician out to repair and the door had been put on wrong with a gap. Okay, fixed....or we though. Moving forward, we noticed the ice machine would not work properly and was constantly clogging up with ice. I have to remove the ice bin and take a huge chunk of ice that develops weekly. The water drips constantly from the door, which we'd try controlling with a small towel between tech visits. Now, we are waiting on a new door, because the ice maker and water dispenser barely works... it was working at about 20% of the capacity I'd expect, but we were dealing with it limping along for now, and this piece of junk is now leaking worse. We've had Pacific Sales/Kitchen Aid service out to the house 5 times! Got to take time off work to spend half a day with a technician, only for another issue to arise. This is a huge frustration. We are stuck with a very expensive LEMON, but since we are beyond the 15 day delivery, Best Buy/Pac Sales only offers another warranty visit but will not replace the thing. We had originally bought a Samsung during a Black Friday event for our new home, but shortly before delivery, we changed our mind as this was supposed to be a great refrigerator...DUMB MOVE on my part!!! This is the LAST THING I will EVER purchase from Best Buy! I am SO FINISHED with these people. This refrigerator has cost me a LOT. Got the thing on sale, but bought an extended warranty and had to use approximately 25 hours of annual leave or time off without pay to be home to deal this these problems that STILL ARE NOT RESOLVED!

Having a love/hate relationship with my fridge

After reading many reviews and having certain brands in mind, we settled on this Kitchenaid fridge. We've had it in our home for about a month now and haven't had any issues with it. We also didn't experience the plastic water taste some have mentioned. We were told to throw the first 3 gallons of water and first few batches of ice out. While I love the look of this fridge, the inside needs some improvement. There is one adjustable shelf, but unless you want to hang it a few inches from the ceiling of the fridge, you are left with not a whole lot room for tall items, like a gallon of milk. The adjustable shelf has a section that recedes, so there is enough room for about 2 gallons of milk, without turning anything on it's side. So, while I love my fridge, I don't think there's a good amount of room for what I need to store.

When we finally bought a house I had to have KitchenAid everything ( even down to the gadgets in my kitchen ( scissors, can openers etc)... this fridge is beautiful... but first the valve on the fridge broke ( we replaced).... and now the lights inside and the deli drawer only sometimes work... sometimes half of the day they are on then other times they aren’t. I will also say it does seem to dent easily. I wish KitchenAid at least made a new wrap kit for the doors so when this happens we could at least do that.... It’s beautiful otherwise, space inside is fantastic. I love the drawers as well...the freezer section is also laid out very nice.

The look and space on this fridge is great, BUT I've been having issues with this fridge ever since I bought it. There is always something. The first issue was the doors. It did not sealed properly and condensed water would leak and ice formed on the side of freezer drawer. Then was veggie drawer control panel stop working and had to be changed. Now is the inside of the fridge, the Tech said it was the mechanism to process the water condensation that wasn't working as it should and it was creating ice on the side of the freezer drawer again, and sometimes water would leak on the floor. When the technician look on the back of the fridge, he found some rusty and determined the fridge need to be replaced. My service insurance paid for the new fridge, BUT I had to pay for installation and haul the old one.

Look at other Kitchenaid refrigerators but avoid this one. I bought the fridge a few years back. I loved the look and we got the matching microwave dishwasher and stove. Within the first 3-4 years we had issues with the fridge but we let it go (my biggest mistake). Later the freezer wouldn't close right due to the seal needing replacement., then had electric issues and the control panel went out, then water started building up under the two mid drawers. Recently the whole fridge stopped cooling. I've spoked to several fridge repairmen after every issue and they all said this fridge is known to have several issues. I was dumb enough to keep paying for repairs until this last issue. Do yourself a favor and look at another model.

We bought this pricey refrigerator 4yrs ago. Unfortunately, that is the lifespan. We loss the ability to make ice after 2yrs, then the bottom freezer stopped freezing. Now the refrigerator is not cold enough. We have done everything and it's still not performing correctly. Good looking on the outside but a piece of expensive crap taking up a lot of space in my kitchen. I was a huge fan of Kitchen Aid, and even got all my kitchen appliances by them, but unfortunately it seems that no one is concerned about quality anymore. I will not speak well of Kitchen Aid going forward. Products that are not worth the money.

We've now had this refrigerator for over a year, and have mixed feelings about it. Pros: The two drawers, ice and water in door, French Doors and Freezer drawer make it energy efficient since you don't have to open the entire fridge to access contents, The interior shelving is flexible allowing various adjustments. and the variety of compartments are handy if you like to compartmentalize different types of foods. Cons: There are two slight defects with this unit. The first is that the hinged door seal bar between the French doors doesn't fully retract, so when opening and closing the left door it smacks into the right door and you have to manually reach and retract it so that the door will close. The spring in this component appears to be too weak, and eventually we'll probably need to replace it. The second problem is with the door switches for the open-door alarm. if the door isn't completely and snugly closed, the switch doesn't engage and the alarm sounds after a couple of minutes. even though the door is closed and seals engaged. This switch is also the same one that controls the interior lights, so if it doesn't completely engage the lights stay on. I know what you're thinking- how can he know if the lights are still on with the doors closed? You can see if they are by opening the drawer compartment below the door These issues are obvious design oversights and the unit should be recalled or a fix offered. The other drawbacks that we've experienced are the the ice maker takes too long to make ice, and if you have dinner guests, a party or if you have a big family plan on making trips to the grocery to buy extra ice. The ice maker might be able to keep up if the ice bin was bigger, which is another drawback. For the capacity of the refrigerator the ice bin is small. It would also be beneficial if the door storage trays had more adjustment levels there are only a couple of usable levels for each tray, and the lower freezer would be better if the two lower bins could be combined into one. My complaints about the adjustments could easily be said about many newer style refrigerators as designers seem to be fond of compartmentalization to the detriment of allowing for larger spaces that often come in handy, say for a frozen turkey or such. Overall we like this refrigerator and it's aesthetics and function, but the designers still have some work to do. .

6 years after owning this troublesome fridge, we are calling its death. the fridge needs about $1200 worth of parts and labor to get it back up and running as nearly every electrical board has failed. No power surge either! We have already replaced the ice maker ( a KNOWN issue), and the bottom drawer has light contact on the left leading to frost build up and ice inside the freezer. We often would have to unplug and reset the fridge, just so the lights would work properly or for it to cool. And none of the parts were covered in their limited warranty. The quality of this model is so bad, that Kitchenaid should pull it from production. Shame on them for keeping this on the market, they should recall this fridge!
