Too Expensive / Too Many Issues

The refrigerator is pretty, but...the ice maker is awful! We have owned for 4 years and already replaced the ice maker twice and ready for a third time. Each visit is $150 to diagnose and ice maker is $300+ a pop and only warrantied for a year. The back of the freezer ices up and food thaws and refreezes, water constantly dumps into the refrigerator from the ice maker, and it makes ice when it feels like making ice. Do not recommend!

Let me begin by saying after spending $10K on a brand new kitchen in 2017 on all new Kitchen Aid appliances we were thrilled. Everything was working great until this refrigerator started having issues in 2019 into 2020. Was turning on and off numerous times and finally went out. Had to replace the fan, main control board and another part. That took 6 weeks for the parts and repairs and technician to come. Now again a year later…its down again right into holiday season. Trying to contact warranty company, order parts & whirlpool and getting nowhere. Parts are on back order and cannot afford to replace as it is $1000 more than it was and for what…something that cannot be fixed or fixed and will breakdown in a year.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

We've had this fridge for about 2 weeks. First thing we noticed is it prints up so extra easy! Much easier and faster than any other stainless steel appliances we've had. Get your stainless steel wipes ready!
2) Ice maker sucks! Ice cubes are small and melt so fast. Also took daysssssss to make a full canister of ice.
3) The fridge does not get cold! We have it a 33 degrees and the peanut butter is still oily and the coors light bottles aren't even blue! So annoying!
4) you can barely have any tall items at all on the shelves or in the doors. Seriously!
5) Adjustable shelves cannot be placed exactly next to each other bc there's a notch that won't allow them to line up.
6) doors slam closed.
7) it's actually louder than our old age but they say that's bc it's engery efficient.
I think we are sending it back for sure! Gotta be a lemon!!!

The Refrigerator worked fine for 5 Years. Then the Ice Machine stopped working and the Fridge stopped cooling. had someone come out that deals with Kitchenaid and they basically said it was better to get a new fridge than fix it. The Parts were to be covered by the limited parts warranty but the labor was in excess of 1,000. Then I tried to sell it but no-one would buy it because the parts to repair it would be too expensive. Basically it is a nice Refrigerator but only if it is working.

This is the second Kitchenaid refrigerator we have purchased. No problems with the first; but major issues with this one. There is a sensor in the door front directly below the water dispenser. If the is an over pour or spill from the water dispenser (even with immediate cleanup) it enters a cavity under the sensor and ultimately it shorts. We had service from the Kitchenaid repair shop in our area. He told us we would need to buy a new drawer front that includes the sensor. Price a little over $600. Then add tax and installation it came to almost $1,000. That’s 25% of the purchase price! Call Kitchenaid customer service for some help, but they wouldn’t do anything. So now we have no lights in the entire refrigerator, no ice/water and the freezer is developing frost! To add insult to injury we just received a letter asking if we wanted insurance. This refrigerator is only 3 1/2 years old. Junk! Won’t buy Kitchenaid again even though we own all Kitchenaid appliances now.

Poorly designed and does not work. The ice in the door dispenser melts and leaks out the door onto the floor. You empty the remaining ice and maybe it starts working again in a day or 2. this cycle repeats itself every couple of weeks. I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the blower in the ice maker itself but it will never be fixed because the repair people will never see it happening. I have the Kitchen aid version of this fridge but the Whirlpool version does the same thing. Look at reviews on the net, this is a known issue with these, both Whirlpool and Kitchen aid, yet their help desks are just that..helpless. Never again

We loved this refrigerator, but it died in 5yrs. Literally 2 Months ago, the cost to replace the parts was $1,800.00. We decided to buy a new refrigerator instead of repairing. We loved Kitchenaide, when we bought the refrigerator we purchased matching dishwasher, range, & microwave. after 5yrs the refrigerator and dishwasher needed replacing.

I absolutley loved the look and functionality of this fridge.
I've had it just 3 years and in the last 4 months it has died 3 times. First time stopped cooling, second time froze all the contents of the fridge. I've had a tech out twice, replaced expensive parts and 3 months later I’ve had another load of groceries and a full freezer go in the garbage as the fridge has stopped cooling.
I am so very dissapointed to have spent so much money on this fridge to only have to replace it so soon. Not to mention the groceries and food lost, all during the Covid -19 pandemic when its almost impossible to get a tech out let alone groceries.
Would not recommended to anyone

Beautiful disaster

While I was awed by the look of the interior, the beautiful handles, and the overall design; I cannot begin to describe the disappointment we have felt over the past month. Twenty four hours after installation, we realized we were the proud owners of an almost $4,000 room temperature cabinet. Now, a month into ownership and three service calls later (only three because it has taken that long to order parts from KitchenAid), we now have an almost $4,000 slightly cool cabinet that comes no where close to freezing temperatures. Trying to contact customer service was an exercise in frustration and we have found no help forthcoming from KitchenAid. It is no wonder that Home Depot has abandoned this refrigerator as, it appears, have Best Buy and Lowes. So far, the only benefit we have experienced from this refrigerator is the exercise gained by running down to the basement and back every time we need something from the old refrigerator.

After 6 years, the freezer stop working. After it was repaired, the refrigerator stop working - will not cool enough. The water dispenser also stopped working, and now the control for the two middle drawers has stopped working. Over $4000 for this refrigerator and it was terrible. I will buy another brand shortly. This all happened before Thanksgiving and then before Christmas. Bad luck, NO, just a really crappy refrigerator that had a life expectancy of 6 years. And yes I did clean the condenser on a regular basis.

Astonishingly Bad

Purchased in 2017, Onsite repair 7 times since. Mostly the ice maker and the in-door dispenser. I guess we're fortunate to have done what I NEVER do - purchase a GeekSquad warranty. Honestly, I wish I wouldn't have, because in three years, this refrigerator has worked properly for roughly 4 months. It's garbage. Of course, with Covid, we couldn't even get it repaired, so we went 7 months without an ice maker. Remember when appliances lasted 20 years? Well, this gem from KitchenAid lasted 4 months. On top of it, they use garbage quality "stainless steel" exterior that will rust if you clean it with water, or most stainless cleaners - what a horrible product.... all-in, I'm in it for nearly $4k. I will never, NEVER, ever buy another KitchenAid product for as long as I live and I will be the complete opposite of a brand ambassador for them. Enough is enough! Any reputable brand would have stepped in and replaced the unit after so many repairs.
We are very sorry for the continued frustrations with your appliance, . Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with any additional support. Any further concerns would need to be addressed through your Extended Service Plan Provider.

Do NOT buy this fridge. After 4 years, the harness needed to be replaced. 1 month later the ice maker stopped working. When the repair man came out, he said it was a sealed system issue. Long story short, it t was going to be another 600+ dollars to fix it. We opted to replace the fridge and not put anymore money into it. We bought it thinking it was going to last us a long time and it did not!

Had the fridge 6 months. Serviced five times so far. Each service takes three weeks. One week to identify problem, another to get parts, another to schedule installation/repair. Would be so happy if it worked. Kitchenaide says I’m sorry but won’t replace unit. Extended warranty only for repairs. Would be so happy if it worked!

This is the Second Fridge in 4 years. Same problem on both of them.Fridge stops cooling. First one was replaced. Bought the Extended Warranty for 560 USD which is useless. The local repair company has come few times, changing parts while the issue is still the same. 8 months later, after many hours on the call with the Warranty Service (that was bought from Kitchen Aid), KitchenAid Customer Service is not helping address the issue (or even trying to listen) by redirecting to AIG. This is unacceptable for a 4000 fridge

ICE maker slow from date of purchase
Now no ICE
Drawer temperature control quit working 6 months ago and now after mother board replacement and the drawer control panel and 900 dollars later still does not work.
I have called Kitchen Aid and all they want to do is send a tech and charge more money. Depending on where you purchase this unit average price is 3500 dollars. I have looked at numerous reviews on this unit and apparently this Ice Maker issue seems to be pretty common and probably poorly produced I just want a refrigerator that works properly

We purchased this fridge back in 2017. We've had it repaired 7 times so far. The freezer builds up ice and I can't close the door. Or the freezer stops working completely and all the frozen food goes bad. The ice machine stops making ice. Recently the refrigerator stopped cooling and all the food went bad. I purchased the extended warranty that expires in October. I keep asking to get it replaced but Geek squad just keeps sending someone to try to fix it which works for a few weeks to couple months before it breaks again. It would make sense to me to just replace it instead of continuously trying to fix something that keeps breaking. This is the last time I buy a kitchenaid product and the last time I buy a warranty from best buy.
We are very sorry for the frustrations surrounding your Extended Service Plan. We understand these situations can be confusing, but you have contracted with a third party company for warranty coverage on your appliance. By doing so, you are agreeing to their specific warranty terms and conditions. Unfortunately, this means we are not able to assist with this issue and recommend that you reach out to your plan administrator for your options available under the terms of your agreement.

Freezing everything in the fridge

we have now had it fixed 3 times. It freezes the entire fridge. Had it fixed a month ago and freezing everything again. I love the look, the general quality seems nice. I love the set up of the drawers and the ice maker works well. It is just frustrating to have everything freeze in the fridge- For the money, shouldn't have this issue. We have Geek squad protection on it, but if we have to buy another fridge (vs them replacing with the same fridge- we can't afford to get the same one as it is so much more expensive now!

My wife loves the looks and features of this fridge . We were happy to buy American. If this is an example of American quality we are in big trouble. The ice maker / water dispenser sits right above the Meat Drawer and its selection mode Board . Any water that spills fills this opening and the board shorts out . Constantly ! None of the seals actually seal the drawers , both fans have failed . Now it won’t cool in the middle of a lockdown and it is heading out the door ASAP . Not even 5 years old . Complete junk , don’t buy one .

I've had this refrigerator for just over a year and a half. It has milti year warranties on some parts. We noticed some of our stuff in the freezer wasn't staying frozen. We got a thermometer and it was way off temperature.
Called out a service man and they need to replace the defrost sensor, the fan loader and some other things. These specific parts, of course, aren't covered under the warranty. It's absolutely rediculous that a supposed high end fridge model requires $400 dollars of work so soon into it's life. I know I will never be buying a KitchenAid ever again.
