Worst Layton Game Yet
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Layton games typically interweave a masterful 3D environment (for 3DS), a good story, some exploration, puzzle solving, and video sequences. This Layton game fails across the board. There's no use of 3D in this edition and the story is mind numbingly boring. The scene design is Laytonesque but lacks the detail and features expected from previous work. The puzzles are few and far between compared with previous titles and finally include trick puzzles. While at first I welcomed the inclusion of trick puzzles, their overuse and lack of variation make them tremendously predictable. The video sequences are short, contribute nothing, and are of low quality. The quality of Layton games has improved over time since Curious Village all the way up to the crossover Layton vs Wright. That is until this. The product has all the hallmarks of being rushed and poorly planned. Let's hope this is a one off blunder. Wait for this game to hit the bargain bin before buying.
