Helps me get to sleep!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had the LectroFan for the past week at this point, and my initial experience has been excellent. I use this device at night to aid sleep, and I have not felt this well rested in quite some time. I live in a large condo building that is usually very quiet, and if I awaken in the middle of the night, the dead quiet becomes the object of my mental focus. This seems to keep me awake. My wife’s sniffles and snoring can also prevent me from getting back to sleep. The LectroFan has been able to hypnotize me back to dreamland, and render me blissfully unaware of any other noises around me. As advertised, there are 10 different pitch levels of “white noise” and “fan noise”, along with 50 volume levels from barely audible to annoyingly loud. I appreciate the consistency of the sound production; the absence of variation in tone is perfect for the intended hypnotic effect. I personally like the lower frequency fan rumblings at moderate volume. I could also see how this device could help to prevent distractions in a quiet office, or to create a more private environment for conversations. The build quality of this device is excellent; it feels solid, the buttons work precisely. There evidently is another model that doubles as a Bluetooth speaker, but I have other devices for my music. I am very happy to have the LectroFan on my bedside table; it has helped to improve my sleep quality immensely.

Great white noise that helps sleep
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I first tried out the 20 different sounds, I felt the sounds were not as soft as I would have liked, whether for noise reduction or for sleep aid. To begin, most nights I stay at my apartment or many hotels throughout the country and the neighbors can be very loud at night. Occasionally I have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep and had to deal with the neighbors in the middle of the night. So far I tried 4 nights of sleep using the white noise on the 'LectroFan, and I do not remember a thing after starting the sound and layind down, except that I fell asleep right away. So it seems to work very well. I haven't tested it during the day for work or exercise yet. But I intend to try out a few of the fan sounds soon. The design is pretty compact, much smaller than most other white noise speakers that I've seen in stores, so it can be carried in a bag if anyone travels frequently. The bottom is raised by the subtle lip around the edge and 4 legs that help the unit stay in place on my night stand. The cable also tucks neatly under the bottom of the unit. The USB cable is 55 inches long so even at hotels that tend to skimp on wall plugs, it's not difficult to plug it and have the speaker on the night stand. This is a good unit for anyone who could use some noise reduction/cancellation, especially who travel.

Surprisingly effective!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've always been a bit skeptical about these things as I'm both a very light sleeper, but also very easy distracted (the kind of person who has to wear earphone to concentrate - you get the picture). So I received this item in exchange for my honest opinion and I can say I'm surprisingly impressed with it. Maybe it was down to my expectations that this would create some 'cone of silence' around me rather than the reality that it creates a consistent background noise that was the issue. But I took it out the box and plugged it in, and started flicking through the white-noise settings. On first pass they appear to be just creative static you'd get from an old TV - and then suddenly I realized... I couldn't hear the rain dropping on the window frame anymore. Every time it rains its a bug bear sitting in this quiet back room with this persistent tap-tap-tap noise from the gutters, but this thing wiped out the noise. Its an odd sensation but once you get used to the noise, it genuinely covers the background noises that you started to take for granted. It has 10 fan noises and 10 white noises of varying severity and intensity so the trick it to find the one that best matches the frequency of your current 'disturbance'. I havent tried it for sleeping yet, thats the next test - but I'l definitely keeping this thing on my desk so keep me focused throughout the day. I'm sure you could achieve the same thing with an iPhone app or out of the computer speakers but theres something nice an tactile about having it as part of the furniture rather than linked to some other piece of technology.

Great product - simple to control & effective
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed to find a solution to provide white noise for my office at work due to all of the activity that swirls around my office every day. A friend recommended the Lectrofan as a solution. After doing significant research on competing models, I decided to purchase the Lectrofan. After using it for a few days I'm delighted with my purchase. I've experimented with several different sounds on the white noise and fan options. I can change the settings based on the amount of noise I'm trying to block out. After orienting myself with the controls, the Lectrofan was very simple and intuitive. The upward-facing speaker helps disperse the sound around the room. There is a wide variety of frequencies to select from and the sound seems to be realistic. I believe this is a better solution than using my iPhone as the noise don't get interrupted with texts and calls. You can set the Lectrofan to play for 60 minutes, 120, 180, etc or set it to play indefinitely. The sounds can be turned up a lot so I can see this working for a larger room to moderate the sounds in the room. I'm considering purchasing an additional Lectrofan for my bedroom as it may help ease the pain of the neighbors barking dogs!

Decent performance
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been using a box fan for the last 30 years to generate white noise during sleep hours. This practice began as a means to cover external noises in the neighborhood like traffic and dogs barking, and has evolved into one that is, unfortunately, essential for a good night's rest. Hence, I was intrigued by the prospect of having the capability of generating similar background noise without having to contend with the obvious bulk and air movement associated with having a box fan running. The Lectrofan offers both 'white noise' and fan sounds as two distinct categories, with 10 sound profiles in each category. I have used this unit for several nights and have found just one setting in the fan category that is a reasonably suitable replacement for an actual fan. Many of the fan profiles have, for lack of a better description, an 'industrial' quality to them, which tends to make them much less realistic. The 'white noise' category options are basically just 10 different pitches of the same basic 'fuzzy' sound profile (like you might get on an old broadcast TV that is set on a non-operating channel). Overall, I have found that the Lectrofan is a reasonable option to replace a true box fan with something having a much smaller footprint. Given it's size, it does a decent job of creating background noise. I expect that, since it is much more portable than a real box fan, it would be an excellent option for travel.

Just what we needed to drown out night time noise!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before we got the Lectrofan sound machine, we relied on a loud box fan in the room to drown out the noises the cats would make at night. We hated how strongly it would blow directly on us. The Lectrofan has 20 different fan sound and white noise settings to choose from. Each setting sounds similar to one another, but has a subtle difference in sound that changes everything! There is also volume control and a sleep timer, which can really come in handy. I would definitely recommend this sound machine to anyone who just needs a little bit of noise to drown out the noises that prevent you from falling asleep at night!

Works Great - Helps Me Fall Asleep
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Until I tried the Lectrofan, I used to fall asleep to the tv playing in the background as I needed some noise to help me fall asleep. The tv wasn't ideal due to the light. With the Lectrofan, I can now turn the tv off at night. I love that I can select any one of 20 white noises to match my environment. For the house, a gentle box fan was the perfect noise to help me fall asleep. The timer is great as you can have the device stop the noise after you fall asleep. If you need some white noise to fall asleep, I recommend trying the Lectrofan.

Performs exactly as advertised
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product does exactly what it advertises: Outputs the choice of 10 fan sounds and 10 white noise sounds. I like the number of choices for each sound, the 1dB increment volume control, the 60 minute timer, and the option to control whether the unit automatically powers on after being plugged into an outlet. The seven sided design is different and I like it. The only thing that would make this unit better is to offer nature sounds such as ocean waves.

Could help persons sensitive to ambient noises
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I tried this hoping that some "fan noise" might help me sleep a bit longer/deeper. Didn't work for me, but I'm sure it would be helpful for others. The white noise sounds I actually found to be annoying. But the fan sounds are close to actual and would probably help if that's what you normally use and don't want to actually run a fan. Has good controls for type of white noise/fan sound and volume so you should be able to find the right setting for your needs. It's also a bit pricey considering it's just a single purpose device. Especially when you consider that for $10 less, from the same manufacturer, you could opt for the HCSE1017BKSL which has the noise generator, but is also a bluetooth speaker that is made to be portable.

Excellent Quality and Function
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit is very well made, solid and designed well. It is small (about 4" diameter by 2" high) so it will fit on your nightstand nicely. There are more elaborate sound masking machines but not at this price point. It does have 20 different sounds and each sound can be adjusted to the required volume to cover up noises that can disturb your sleep or focus. The sounds cover various fan noises and other noises. You can connect via the included USB cable to a computer port (only to power this unit), or the unit also comes with a 120 VAC USB adapter. I liked the idea that it remembers your last setting when you power off. Also it has the ability to turn itself off in multiples of 60 minute intervals. My wife and I both liked the unit since at times there are noises that it covers including target shooting, fireworks, dog barking and so forth. You just dial in the right noise at the right sound level. I like this more than some units that play soothing music but really don't cover up noise. The manual is well done and helpful to explain the functions since this lower priced unit does not have lots of dials or display data. However it is easy to dial in the sound/volume you want. Note that when you cycle back to the first fan or white noise sound there is a little audible 'beep' so that you know you are at noise position #1; I almost missed that point in the manual but it is explained. This is not a toy, it comes with a one year warranty. Each unit has a serial number and you can register it online. Who ever designed this unit did a wonderful job to cover the functionality and design.

Better sleep
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a 3rd shifter in a busy ER, I am always looking for ways to get a better "night's" sleep. Previously I had in my arsenal a nice *noisy* box fan to drown out the sounds of daytime whilst I slept. So when the opportunity arose to test out a machine with 10 different fan sounds, I was intrigued, if not a bit skeptical. The actual unit is rather small, which is great for those with less space. The small size does not in any way lessen the volume. Of the 10 fan sounds, only one left me wondering who could utilize it (sounded like an old 1930's prop plane). The rest of the sounds are soothing, and can reasonably drown out any annoying sounds. There is also a selection of "white noise" sounds which can reasonably drown out such noises as well. I must say that the fan sounds are "authentic", and life-like. And are not "looped" like some other products (well, i'm sure they are - you just can't tell they are!). Verdict? If you don't have the room for a giant box fan - this device is perfect for you! I can also see the value in this unit for those that frequently travel, and stay at hotels. Another plus is that it can plug into a normal AC outlet, or a USB outlet. So if your hotel has a USB port on the bedside table - you are good to go!

Gets the job done!

Works Great & Easy to use.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well it comes with a USB cord to power it and has a wall wart with a USB receptacle. So you can power it with your computer if you are at work or even in the car. Some of the fan sounds are a bit OVER the top but it can be turned down to a whisper if needed. I give it 4 stars because it would be nice to have the USB plug available at the unit to plug in other USB powered objects. But otherwise a very good white noise machine.

Great for sleeping
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has worked great for the family. Helps us and the baby sleep... like a baby. I love that it has a ton of different sounds to pick from. Works great on quiet, we had to crank it up to drown out some loud weather noises. My only complaint is that the timer isn't intuitive. We don't use it but it's hard to tell how long the timer is set for. It just says 60min but supposedly has 3 settings. I'd recommend this product to get rid of those outside noises.

Helps sleep in winter
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I always liked the sound of fan when sleeping. I cannot simply stand slience , then k can hear someone moving in the bed or the noise outside That's one of the reason why I would turn on the fan even in winter but my partner does not like it always Now, this device is unique , j can set it on and it emits a white noise similar to a slow running fan, thus I get the noise without having to turn the fan on. It has really helped my sleep !!

Restfully sleep with that white noise
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I never thought I had problems sleeping {wife a bit of a snorer} but I used this and lets just it was a great neutralizer. Don't know how I was married this long without it. If you have not already ordered on stop reading and do it now lol. If you understand concept of white noise you'll know it does just what its suppose to. My unit turns on by itself on occasion but i unplug it and I'm fine. You will love this device.

Good for the price. Missing ergonomic luxuries.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product surprised me with its sleek design. It fits in the palm of your hand and yet it produces sound that can fill in an entire living room. I love the variety of familiar fan sounds and distorting white noise sounds to personalize my needs for sleep. The simplicity of the button layout is refreshing, but its a little confusing to me, even with the instructions, that the "60 min" timer button doesn't have a clear indication as to how many times I can press it to set the time. Aside from the timer button, one design flaw I noticed was a lack of a remote control. That is why I gave it 4 stars, I felt like the remote would have made this the ultimate product, but I guess I'm reaching for convenience. All in all I love this machine!
