The best handheld for PC gamers!

If you are looking for a console-like experience, go with the Steam Deck. If you want a portable gaming PC, this is the way to go! This is probably the most versatile product there is: 2 USB-Cs capable of connecting power, e-gpus, docks and anything else you can imagine. A built in mouse, detachable controller, touch screen AND trackpad. This is the most versatile product there is. The down side, you need to know what you are doing (or be willing to Google it) to take full advantage of all this versatility. Battery life can be 1h to 6h depeding on your settings, so you chose it you rather performance or battery life. The software gets better by the week, with an active community and continuous development by Lenovo. The screen is huge and gorgeous (which makes the device heavy). The detachable controllers are great and the kickstand is a awesome addition. I've been loving my device for the 3 months I had it. I've also dropped it 2 times with not one scratch.

    Pros and Cons

Pros: More versatile, can easily play any game with any launcher. Game pass is such a breeze over the SD (not to mention all the windows based applications) More performance Super high quality, the pictures of this thing do not do it justice. Feels like $650 in your hand Probably the best looking IPS screen I’ve seen honestly, really good resolution Track pad, something the other windows based handhelds lack but is handy with navigating windows Been steady updates to this thing since launch. It performs much better now than when it came out and got reviewed. Cons: she’s heavy, high quality but probably double the weight of the SD oled Battery life, you’re probably not getting more than an hour and a half with this thing not plugged in It’s a PC so it took a lot of set up with updates and driver installs (I could see where this would be a no go for someone who’s never had a gaming pc) Pretty loud fan if you’re playing a graphic intense game, the steam deck is silent compared to this thing (I think they are adding a fan curve feature)

Just one of the lucky few I guess. I bought a ROG Ally and hated it due to hardware issues. I washed my hands of it after a week. I saw that the Legion was being developed and pre-ordered two weeks before the release. Mine arrived Oct 31st and I have not put it down since. I got the 1TB version and it is just incredible. The display is rich and immersive. The stand, RBG lights, removeable controllers, and touchpad are everything the Ally wasn't. This also came with a nice case that has a charge port flap in it that is sealed with a magnet when not in use. Asus needs to take note and bring their A Game next time.

Great Concept.. but not ready for prime time.

Build quality and concept is miles ahead of their competitor, the ROG Ally, but unfortunately these two devices share the same mediocre hardware. Build: 8/10 | Build quality feels great compared to the ROG Ally. Screen appears to be high quality, but the controllers do lack the 'heavy sturdy' feel to them. I understand if this was a method to save weight, but the controllers feels more on the cheaper side. Performance: 5/10 | Unfortunately, this is the part that made me return the device. The device struggled to play modern games even at 20-30 FPS without having to lower the quality. Sure, you can lower the quality/resolution/refresh rate and play at 30-40 FPS, but that defeats the of the brilliant screen it came with. I guess if you bought this to watch videos it'd work, but this is marketed as a handheld gaming device. Overall | Long story long, if you're a gamer that loves the play older indie games, watch videos, want to have a portable Windows device, then this might be for you. However, for the vast majority who want to use this for real gaming, i'd wait a couple years until companies start putting REAL chips in these devices. I'm talking about ACTUAL sweet chips like Ryzen 7/9. It's entirely possible that AMD adds these chips to these devices with added cooling, but since portable gaming is fairly making it's way back to the market, I believe they're just testing the waters first. Given the amount of possible returns of these devices, I'm sure they'll reconsider!

Pre ordered mine and got it today and as soon as I touched it I knew I liked it more than the ally and deck. Love the design of it, the screen size, speed of it etc. Will be selling my ally and keeping this most likely. I got the 1TB version and it’s worth every penny. Love the case it comes with as well unlike what ASUS gave us. Performance wise, it uses the same chip as the steamdeck and Ally, but the extra ram and SSD def make things go smoother.

Overall, it is a great device, I been using it since launch and there is definitely an increase in performance over the months. Battery is not bad but could be better. Performance is great I usually do not play demanding games such as cyberpunk 2077 in this device but if you know how to teak it you can easly get 60-70 fps.

A better device with Steam os

Getting the legion go original on sale for 600 or less and installing steam OS on it is the best handheld pc deal around right now. For one thing UE5 games work properly, lumen lighting is still broken in windows, but works fine on steam OS. If you are in the market for a handheld PC and you want top end performance for less money, get this on sale and install steam OS.

I've been an avid Steam deck user for most of that devices life. So all of my options are going to be colored by that experience. The Lenovo Legion Go is a very well equipped device that sadly fails to stand up under the weight of its own design. The Touchpad is a fantastic thing to have when navigating around windows. But its positioning causes me to have to readjust my grip on the device every time I switch to or from it. To make matters worse, when gaming sometimes the touch pad will registering a click or mouse move from my palm, which can cause a verity of problems. Fps mode is an AMAZING idea. The thought of having a real mouse with me whenever I need it is freeing in a way, especially since this is a windows 11 device. But the design used to achieve it is very lacking. The right controller just feels like a mass of buttons in both FPS mode and normal use, further reducing the ergonomics of the device. Speaking of Ergonomics, Its awesome that I can disconnect the controllers from the display and not have to hold the whole thing up all the time. That can get tiring and I find myself drooping down to my lap no matter how light the device is. That said, Who thought it was a good idea to make the sides of this thing hard edges!? They dig into my palms and its annoying that such a obviously bad design choice was made, presumably to favor the silhouette. The display is huge compared to my steam deck(LCD) and originally had me smitten with that feature alone. But At a resolution of 2560x1440 and refresh rate of either 144 or 60. This thing was never going to work well in a hand held. My desktop with a RTX 3080 couldn't meet those specs in most games. It does have the option of 1920x1200 which is MUCH more reasonable, but still a struggle with performance this thing can put out. It would have been MUCH better at 1920x1200 display running at 60hrtz with VRR. I played most things at a resolution of 1280x800, this was partially done to match the steam deck in like for like testing, but mostly it was because this device couldn't do much better than that. I was frankly very disappointed that my steam deck was almost always only 10-15 fps lower in like for like testing. Given that I've gotten an extra 5-10 fps from my deck when overclocking I was expecting the Z1E to put out much better numbers when given 20-30W of power. Especially given its much faster memory. Perhaps rather than going for faster they should have given it more, as I regularly hit max memory usage in game. I usually got around an hour and a half playing on the legion go, even when running in balanced mode, it just eats battery life. That's partially due to having to power 8CPU cores even when they aren't doing much and the big ole display. Not to mention the very fast ram, which as far as I can tell, is wasted on this device, Because... The software sucks. Windows is windows, Its a known quantity, its not efficient, its meant to be run on a billion different configurations of systems. So I can't be too hard on it. Legion space, is a big ole eye sore. I rolled by eyes every time I pressed that button. (which happened a lot since its where the pause button should be) The smaller system settings was much better. (but the button is still in the wrong spot) But even then, the custom TDP just didn't work, at all. I would set it at 5W and the frame rate wouldn't change. But if I dropped to balanced TDP suddenly the framerate would tank. The RSR button didn't seem to do anything. and the option to change resolution would cause all kinds of weird things to happen. Also the system monitor seems very lacking when compared to the steamdeck. I've perhaps been rather hard on the legion go, but that's mostly because I was really excited for it and feel rather let down. The design decisions seem made to either make it look pretty at the cost of comfort, or for the sake of bigger numbers on the box rather than efficient performance. Which is truly a shame, this device deserved to be better. So I'm sticking with my deck for awhile longer, and If you have one, I think you should too. I will miss that 8in display though.

This product is amazing buy it. But not from bestbuy.——————- i purchased this item full price, 2 days later they drop the price. I contact chat price match, agent complies and fails to submit a complete action, fast forward to never receiving the price match refund, only to be told it was not completed after i received confirmation, stating “chat disconnected” the new agent states out of 15 day policies. Good luck. Not honoring or accepting the failures of the processing. Great job best buy 5 stars

    INSTALL ChimeraOS!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

To everyone here complaining that the software is bunk; you’re right, its terrible. ChimeraOS is a free community developed alternative to SteamOS and even in its current pre-release phase for the Legion Go, it provides a much better experience than Windows and it’s getting better and better every week as it gets updated. If you are, at all, concerned about software that isn’t fully baked, it should be in a much more complete state by mid-December or early January at the very latest. Games are currently fully working, but some buttons to navigate the UI don’t work.

I love the idea of having an on the go handheld PC, capable of playing my favorite games however there are some issues with this one. The intial setup took 2 hours for updates and drivers to install, the system is very slow on windows 11. After having downloaded a couple games I decided to see what it was capable of, first off if you expect to play any game on DirectX11/12 forget playing it on the 1440p resolution screen you will have to scale the resolution down to 1080p or lower, next the system would not get above 24 FPS in Cyberpunk (which I understand is a poorly optimized graphically intense game) with low settings and RT turned off. The system is great for smaller games like Stardew, Minecraft, and Diablo IV (if settings are scaled properly). I can’t justify spending $699 on this system or even the current $499 holiday prices, if you are going to spend this much I would recommend a lower end Gaming Laptop or even a PS5 or Xbox Series Console which is a big deal for me to say because I’ve been on PC so long. The Z1 Extreme certainly had improvements over the Z1 but FSR 3.0 frame gen lacks in improvements for the Z1 extremes FPS counter, it showed me very little improvement when toggled on (1-2FPS) in game. If you are looking for a handheld to play games that ARE NOT graphically demanding and you still want the functionality of Windows I would recommend this system to you. However if you are looking for a lower maintenance slightly faster OS and better overall UI I would strongly recommend the Steam Deck. The Legion Go also gets HOT I mean REALLY HOT, there were times even using this system where it was uncomfortableto touch the screen because it was so hot. Finally if you look at the actual specs of the Device the 7500MT/s RAM has very little added benefits and the 1TB SSD from SK Hynix has a underwhelming read/write speed leading to long loading screens and stutters in game. (Overall) if you are looking to buy a handheld at this price point, buy a low end gaming laptop, if you really need a handheld buy a Steam Deck, I think there is a future if Lenovo if they and AMD can resolve some pretty glaring issues with FSR 3.0 and lenovo needs to use a faster SSD.
