Great for the price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. However, if you are a power user and store a lot on your computer such as pics, you need a better option. I actually ran out of space.

Difficulties
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had issues out of the box and ended up returning. Was never able to determine if the issues was strictly the computer I had or if they were systematic.

Speed

I must have got a lemon
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had all kinds of problem with this one freezing up and losing my banking data and having to start games over and over and explorer freezing and the computer blue screening. Geek squad restored it to factory. Reinstalled all my software only to have the same problems. Best Buy finally let me exchange it and upgrade since the same model was no longer available

Very Good Value for The Money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this computer just over 24 hours ago, so I cannot provide an in-depth review. What I can provide are my first impressions. Background: I purchased this computer after researching online for several months and browsing through my local Best Buy store for the past three or four weeks for refurbished/returned desktop PCs meeting my purchase criteria. (See the paragraph after the next one.) The particular unit I purchased was ordered online by a Best Buy customer, sent to the local store and was picked up by the customer. The next day, the customer returned the computer, without having even opened the box. (I do not know why the customer returned the unit.) The local Best Buy store personnel had to open the box to verify the contents and condition of said contents. Because of this, and combined with a current (at the time I purchased the unit) nationwide $50.00 off promotion by Best Buy on this particular model, I was able to purchase the computer at just over $175.00 off the regular price. Selection Criteria: My primary purpose was to purchase a moderately priced, yet powerful enough computer to play PC games, in particular World of Warcraft (WoW), through the Warlords of Draenor expansion. I am also interested in playing Diablo III, Skyrim, Dragon Age: Inquisitions, and other similar games. Obviously, out of the box, this setup will not pay these games at 'Ultra' settings, but the design of the computer, as well as its factory installed components, while far from high end, are certainly powerful enough to at least play these games, at moderate settings. My secondary purpose is to run Microsoft Office 2013, surf the web and have a computer powerful enough to be usable for the next four or five years, at least, for my preteen kids to use for school research projects and their gaming interests. Setup: #You can view the installed hardware components on Best Buy's website.# As for software, the computer comes preinstalled with Windows 8.1 and, after running through about a 10 to 15 minute setup process, to register the computer with Microsoft, enter my personal data, location and operating preferences, the computer seamlessly connected to my home Wi-Fi network and began the process of updating system files. I then spent the next fours hours or so updating system files, adding software programs I wanted installed and just generally familiarizing myself with the computer, and with Windows 8.1. #I have never before used a computer running Windows 8.1, as my older PCs #both ancient, by computing standards# have Windows 7 Home Premium edition installed on them.# Of particular note, I did have to visit NVidia's official website to manually update the GeForce GT 720's video drivers, to version 344.75. As for preinstalled software #a.k.a. 'bloatware'#, there seems to be very little of it installed. A 30 day trial edition of McAfee is the most visible preinstalled software program. Lenovo also includes proprietary software for updating its software and providing a means for updating various hardware firmware. As part of the initial setup process, I ran this software and only a very few files where deemed necessary for updating. Noise: The computer is very quiet. My particular computer/home office desk has a typical tower computer spot under the desk, immediately to the left and slightly to the rear of the user's seating position. While I can hear it running, the fan noise is very low, as is the hard drive noise. I can hear, and feel through the desk, when the DVD drive spins up to read DVDs. Fortunately, this is not frequent and it is not annoying enough for me consider it an issue. I have only had a chance to play WoW for about an hour straight since purchasing the computer. During this time, the computer made no more noise than I have already identified. Performance: From a cold boot, the computer is completely usable in about a minute, maybe a ten seconds or so more. I haven't timed it with a watch, but for me it certainly does not feel like a long time. Out of the box, this computer will play WoW, on a 1980 x 1020 dpi, 24" monitor. The WoW installer determined the computer could play the game on the 'Good' setting, at the monitor's native resolution of 1980 x 1020 dpi. I did not change any of the default video settings, as determined by the WoW installation software. The game runs at 25 to 35 FPS, nothing stellar, but more than acceptable. I also played a few minutes of Diablo III and the game installer set almost every setting to 'High." Diablo III looks really, really good and plays very smoothly. As for Microsoft Office 2013, I have only used Outlook and Word and both programs run very smoothly, almost silkily so. Using Internet Explorer 11, web browsing is quick and everything feels very 'fluid.' I have encountered no issues viewing any web pages, but I certainly have not performed an exhaustive test of how the overall system handles a multitude of web pages. What I can say is that it just seems to work, and unobtrusively at that. Planned Upgrades: As the included keyboard and mouse are simply entry-level, basic ones, I didn't even bother installing and using them. I am currently using an old Microsoft Wireless Multimedia Keyboard #version 1.0A# and a relatively new Logitech G100S, corded, gaming mouse. Rather quickly, I will replace the keyboard with a backlit gaming one, wireless if I can find one. #The computer does come with an installed Bluetooth module, as well as a Wi-Fi adapter.# As soon as my finances allow, I will upgrade the system RAM #it comes with 2x4GB modules and there are two free RAM slots; the system will accept up to 32 GB of RAM#, install an SSD as the primary hard drive #while retaining the included 1TB hard drive as a data drive#, replace the power supply with one powerful enough to easily run an upgraded video card, and replace the video card with GeForce GT 760 #or something similar#. I should be able to make these upgrades and keep the total cost #computer and upgrades# to just around $1,000.00. Final Thoughts: Will this computer impress diehard computer geeks? No, nor is it intended to do that. Will the average Jane and John Doe, and their kids, be pleased with this computer? Yes. With a few upgrades #all should be easily accomplished by anyone remotely comfortable opening a PC tower and removing and installing PC components#, this computer can be the basis for a decent gaming rig, at an affordable price. Furthermore, once the identified upgrades are installed, it should easily have a usable lifespan of at least four or five years.

Good for Graphics
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This computer was on special at BB. It is a good value for the money, when on special. I disliked the HD light and power button on the top of the case. It has a graphics card that should give is similar performance to the 5th Generation I-5 processors. This computer has an I-4, 4th generation processor. I set it up with the Corel Draw! X-7 graphics suit, Roxio and Microsoft Office Professional. The computer handles them well. The hardware does not support default 8.1 encryption out of box. I use external password protected and encrypted hard drives not a problem for me. But be aware your data on your HD can be hacked. There is a moderate amount of bloatware, but not too difficult to remove. This is my first Windows 8 computer and I had a minimal hard time going from Windows 7. I worked as an IT person before I retired; you might find the transition a bit rough. But not unsurmountable.
