Okay Mini Laptop For Class Notes & Email
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Lenovo Ideapad 100s is a good mini laptop for two basic tasks: taking class notes and for checking email. It is one of the lightest Windows 10 laptops available (about 2.2 pounds), and the battery will last six to eight hours at medium screen brightness with wifi turned OFF. After classes are over, it works okay for watching Netflix videos and listening to music on Pandora or Spotify. But use good headphones, as the sound with the speakers is rather thin. It will spend the first two or three days that it is connected to wifi downloading and installing an endless series of Windows 10 updates. That update process slows the computer to a crawl, so you might want to try to do the updates in the evening so your computer is not a paperweight during class. After all of the updates are installed, you will have less than 10gb of open storage space for your photos, videos and music. You will need to buy a microSD card, or a thumbdrive or a usb mini hard drive to store any large files beyond your email and classnotes. Some users may not like the touchpad. It is very basic and does not use the advanced gestures of most Windows 10 laptops. You scroll down the page using the sliding tab on the right side of a page, just like with laptops ten years ago. You can buy a wireless usb "mini mouse" as an alternative to the touchpad. Battery life is related to screen brightness and using wifi. If you are taking class notes at a medium screen brightness with wifi OFF, you can get five to seven hours of work without recharging. If you are streaming Netflix movies at a high screen brightness, you can get two or three hours per charge, enough for even the longest movie. Remember: this is NOT a "real" computer, and you can not use it for demanding tasks such as photoshop or fast action games. It is a very light weight device for taking class notes, checking email, or watching emails and listening to music. For those basic tasks, it is a good choice, especially if you wait until it is on sale for around $150 or so.

Not bad at all.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having worked for Geek Squad for a while now, I've always been both wary and critical of cheap computers. I can't tell you how many I've seen get returned to the store just this past holiday season alone, with the most common complaints being, "It's too slow." Frankly, it's a $200 laptop ($150 if you're lucky and catch a sale). It's not supposed to be fast. Having said that, I'm extremely glad I took the plunge and gave this laptop a shot. A lot of these small value laptops have popped up this past year. I've tried them all at one point or another, and this one is the best, far and away. It doesn't feel like it's going to fall apart every time you open it up like the Asus model did, and the keyboard and trackpad have a much more expensive feel and functionality than the HP Stream models. The battery life will easily get you through a full day, if not more. The specifications state you can achieve up to 8 hours, which can definitely be feasible, depending on what you're doing, watching, listening to, etc. The anti-glare screen has served me well so far in terms of being able to watch videos in HD on YouTube, Netflix, and the like. Just know that, much like some of the lower-end tablets out there, this screen doesn't get quite bright enough to cut through if you were ever planning on using it outside on a very sunny day. One large complaint I've heard about some of these cheaper laptops lately is that the storage provided is only 32gb, and actually quite a bit less once formatted and loaded with Windows. To combat that, the microSD card slot has been quite helpful. So far I've been able to save nearly everything to the memory card as opposed to the actual computer. At the very least, it's got the Chromebook beat when it comes to storage. While I do often tend to get heavy into resource-intensive programs and multitasking, I only use this computer for things like Facebook, e-mail, streaming movies, and other light tasking. If you are considering this device, and realize going in that this could never possibly replace your desktop or gaming laptop, it's a nice little thing to have around when you need to type something up or do some research. If I had only one "complaint," which is more of a disclaimer than anything, this laptop can tend to get a little bit warm if you are actually using it on your lap for extended periods of time. I'd recommend limiting that time, using it on a hard surface, or getting some kind of laptop chill mat. I hope this helps!

Excellent Value AND Performance!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a basic laptop that would allow me to work on Excel and Word documents plus access the Internet and basic email functions. This laptop not only met all the requirements, it's been a reliable, quick access device that has performed brilliantly ever since it was purchased and activated. The reviews have been rather cautionary in terms of expectations, but the screen is sharper and clearer than I expected, the touchpad has not been the wonky item described by others, and I'm easily getting 8+ hours battery time. The keyboard isn't as robust as more expensive Lenovos, but it's perfectly usable. As for Windows 10 updates, it's been easier to update and faster to turn off/on than other laptops I've had at 3 times the cost. Performance-wise, it's completely acceptable for what I want to use it for. It's compact, lightweight, and I've retired other laptops in favor of this one. VERY MUCH RECOMMENDED.

Dead before 90 days
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It hasn't been 90 days since purchase..the unit is dead and I paid to find out it is a hardware malfunction. This is a disposable/temporary laptop at best. Not worth fixing when it fails, and it probably will because you get what you pay for.

Dud
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had it less than two weeks. Wouldn't turn on. Took it to Geek Squad. They sent it in. Can't be fixed. It was replaced. Guess what? Second one... had it less than two weeks, won't turn on. Are you kidding? I saw that others had the same problem.

Terrible
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When the battery dies good luck with powering it back up. It won't run strictly off AC and you have to do a certain sequence of button pushing to get it back on, and only God knows what that it is.

Great low cost Laptop for Travel and Basic Work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice looking and lightweight laptop with great color choices. Good feeling keyboard and adequate 11" screen. It really is best suited for browsing and running cloud based applications and storage due it having only a 32GB eMMC flash drive. (although you can expand with the micro SD slot) It's also loaded with Windows 10 and comes with 12 months of Office 365 and Microsoft cloud storage. ($70 value) One caveat is when running the initial setup don't use the Express Install, select Manual Setup and disable all the tracker and partner stuff Lenovo want you to select. I did see some reviews about bloatware. I didn't see that on my laptop after deselecting all the install options I didn't want. For the price of a low end Chromebook and having access to the Windows based productivity apps I'm familiar with on my work laptop, this is a great choice.

Poor keyboard
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Keyboard keys stopped working after a few weeks! I don't rate products poorly usually, but this happened to 2 Lenovo notebooks, both going bad within a matter of weeks if not sooner!

Not so great
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We had to return this computer twice because it kept having errors and restarting. Possibly a soft ware issue, but not taking a chance. On a positive note it was easy to set up.

Great Basic Ultralight Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had very low expectations for this laptop, therefore I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, there is no gestures, but for 130$ it does a lot. I'm using it for basic programs for work and school and it's handling everything.Citrix, microsoft office, youtube, and browsing all work well. I would recommend you download all vital programs first, because hard drive space will run out quickly. As for all media and documents I bought the sandisk ultra fit flash drive 128gb (it matches, but the usb port is not very deep making this stick out so a micro SD card may be a better choice) If you need portability and your on a budget this can get the job.

Felt like I received MORE than I paid for
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Combine a superbly designed keyboard, enough memory to run Microsoft Office efficiently with multiple windows open at the same time, a trackpad which, though limited in function, is good enough to allow me to work without adding a mouse, battery life that allows me to work for extended times without plugging in, and a full year's subscription to Microsoft Office 365 and you have the Lenovo 100S. When you subtract the value of the Microsoft Office 365 subscription from the purchase price, the cost for the hardware was about $80! I bought this little PC just to try it out, really. I have a full-sized laptop with an i7 processor as well as a tablet. After using the Lenovo 100S for only a short time, I began to appreciate how it combines most of the functionality of a more powerful laptop with a size not too much greater than a tablet. I'm using it more and more, and enjoying it immensely. Yes, built-in storage is only 32 gigabytes, but adding a memory card provides additional storage for documents and even for some (not all) applications. I've been using the 100S for about two weeks. Everyone's needs are different, of course, but I've found absolutely nothing to complain about, and a whole lot to like.
