    Worst Choice

So when I first got this laptop it was great and all until I had started to use it daily all day. The mouse pad does not work at all and my laptop has had all of the updates that are needed. (NOT AN UPDATE ISSUE) I have had to get the screen replaced multiple times. The computer tends to freeze a lot and also not want to turn on even though it is charged. I was very excited because I bought this computer with my own money and it turned out to be the worst choice in Laptops. I have had the worst experiences and not to mention it gets extremely hot and loud as if your leg feels like it is burning off. So definitely choose a different laptop.

Almost perfect, but the fan noise kills it.

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

(tl;dr - If you don't care about fan noise, then this laptop is pretty close to perfect.) I really wanted to love this laptop. It checks all of the boxes for my requirements - small size, lightweight, excellent screen, fantastic keyboard, fast processor, fast (m.2) SSD. Unfortunately, the constant loud fan noise drives me crazy! If Lenovo had chosen to use the i5-7Y57 instead of the i5-7200U, it probably would have been perfectly cool and quiet, but the i5-7200U runs hot and keeps the fan on ALL THE TIME. I tried BIOS settings (Fan Mode: Quiet), I tried changing the Windows Power Settings (Passive Cooling, Max Processor Speed < 100%), and I even tried a Lenovo fan control app from GitHub - nothing worked! Hopefully Lenovo can sort this out eventually with a firmware update and/or new drivers, but I'm not going to hold my breath. (Pro-tip: search for "Lenovo Fan Noise" - seems to be a widespread problem.)

I decided to let this laptop for school and within less than 6 months there were problems with the hardware, so I had to pay and get it fix for $300. Then less than 3 months or so, there was another problem due to the motherboard to get it fix is another 300. Felt like I wasted so much to keep this laptop going. Should've just brought a macbook which lasts more longer.

Great laptop, Black line issue though

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I really enjoy this laptop. It works great for my needs. The thing I'm upset about is that there is an issue with the displays and the laptops are still being sold. I had the laptop for just over 2 weeks when a black line appeared, running across the top of the screen. I would not recommend purchasing this laptop until this issue is fixed. This laptop should not have been on the shelf. If I would have known about the issue, I wouldn't have purchased.

    Poor warranty repair service

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

My Yoga 720 came with a defective modem. I sent it off to Lenovo US for repair under warranty. It’s been 30 days since Lenovo received it and still no repair. I have called twice and was told they are awaiting parts to make it work. This is way outside of Lenovo’s stated turnaround time for warranty repair. I’m up a creek without a computer so I will have to go and buy a new one tomorrow to make my project deadline. I’m out $700 on this Yoga with no way to recapture this expense. Is this bad faith by Lenovo? I would say Yes. Oh, and if you like speaking with off shore technical support who has no knowledge or authority to fix your issue, except to relay a trouble report back to Memphis for a 48-hour follow up, than you will love Lenovo.

    Power button failure

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I would suggest not buying a Lenovo. Power button failed on this laptop after about 18 months. Lenovo support was TERRIBLE. This seems to be a known problem with the laptop and is listed on their forum as an issue. Lenovo support just said laptop out of warranty, not their problem and nothing they could do. No offer of even a way to fix the laptop if I was willing to pay. Just told to take it to local store. This is the SECOND Lenovo laptop that I purchased that has failed. I OFFERED TO PAY FOR REPAIR AND LENOVO SAID THEY REFUSE TO ACCEPT OUT OF WARRANTY REPAIRS. I explained that I would post this information - since I fell it is worth knowing for a potential buyer. Lenovo customer support said I was free to post whatever I wanted. We agreed that while it might be my opinion that this was a bad policy, the support tech restated that it was a fact that Lenovo policy was not to offer any out of warranty repair - even if customer was willing to pay.

This device ships with a limited 1-year manufacturer's warranty covering OEM issues, like the power button, so if your Yoga 720-12 is not more than 1-year old and you registered the device, the power button should be covered. Track pad does not work. Common issue with Lenovo

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

so i have been a mac user for around 7 years. I was in need of a new computer and figured i try the switch back to windows. As for windows 10. I like it It has a lot of great features. So i have had the computer for 9 days now and on the 8th day the trackpad stopped working. I looked into it and this is a common issue. In fact the track pad does not even show up in the Settings>mouse options. Its as if there is no drive for the track pad. This is very diaspointing as i did enjoy the computer but will be taking it back as this is a common issue with these computers and for it being a new computer i really dont want to keep it when its having issues the first week. The display is nice. The 2 in 1 is cool. The speakers suck even though they claim to be great. They really are not that great at all. My 2011 macbook sounds better. Anyway even though its a great computer i have to give it a 1 start becuase if the track pad doesnt work the thing is useless. I bought a laptop not a tablet.

    Disappointing

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This was my first PC purchase after using macs for the past 10 years. I was really excited for the 2-in-1 features and the "four modes" you can use the computer in. After a few months the switching from tablet to computer mode never went smoothly, and there were a lot of glitches. After owning it for a year it started running extremely slowly and there was about a month's time where it just stopped logging on. After an extremely small fall (about 2.5 ft in a case - which I've never seen fatally damage any of my electronics) the screen cracked and its completely unusable. Disappointing life-span for the cost, I would not spend the money on this again.

    Get insurance

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Get the insurance. I rarely use my laptop which is why I bought this one because I don’t use it unless I have to. Well my screen cracked with just me opening it and I learned after calling Lenovo that despite me just opening it and the left corner of my screen cracking I need to pay for the expenses. Mind you I purchased my laptop mid August in 2017. This just happened in February 2nd and I am still paying for my laptop since I am in college. I hope my review is useful and there is one less victim of the defect I learned various people had with the screen as well in the Lenovo form after I spoke with them. I had no issues other than this major one with the laptop.

Loved it but has some issues

I bought this computer with the hopes to use it at college. It worked perfectly for the first year and a half but then the screen started to flicker. I have had it "fixed" by geek squad twice and yet the issue seems to still occur. The last time I brought it in they said that is was an issue that they were seeing more frequently in this product, and that until Lenovo does a recall they can do nothing for me because it does not fail diagnostics. I wish I would have gotten more than a year and a half out of it. I really just want it to be fixed.

Ordered this laptop online and picked it up in the store. I got home and tried turning it on and it wouldn't turn on. I thought maybe the battery was dead so I charged it for a couple of hours and when I went to turn it on again....nothing. Glad this happened on Day 1 cause I can just return it! I am not going to deal with this headache for the life of the computer. Extremely disappointed!!

Right out of the box the mouse kept disappearing during use. I saw several similar comments and they are valid. I took it back to the store and showed the sales person the issue. I even showed him on the display model they had on the floor. Best Buy allowed me to exchange the laptop without question. I settled on an HP for a similar price. Lenovo will not be on my list of options in the future.

We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Yoga 720-12. This system should be a fast system with its Core I-5 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 128GB solid state hard drive. Be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programing errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC" Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on screen directions to restore to factory defaults. We are sorry to hear that you are having issues with your Lenovo Yoga 720-12. It may be an error with the initial activation of Windows 10 or software that was installed. This system is equipped with OneKey Recovery System. There is a very small pin hole on the right side of the device, right near the power button on the device. You will need a pin to push this reset button. Plug the device in. Let the battery charge for about 15 minutes. Push the reset button. The system should boot to a choice screen where you can choose "Restore To Factory Default". Select this. It will delete everything from the hard drive except the original factory install of the operating system. You will need to reinstall all programs and files after the reset. If you don't have copies of the files, try to make one before you restore by selecting "Boot to desktop" and trying to back up your files. If the problem persists after the factory reset, we recommend you contact Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686. lenovo
