Glorified video player - massive amount of issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When trying to replace my current laptop with the Lenovo 720 (model 15IKB) I run in so many issues that I can only imagine that this product was rushed into production by Lenovo. Here is a recollection of the nightmare of the past few days: 1) The Thunderbolt 3 connection is not a fully functional one, for many reasons. First, its data transfer rate is only 20 Gps (and not the full 40 Gps). This isn’t a problem per se but buyers for sure are expecting a true Thunderbolt 3 – i.e. Lenovo is not being fully honest with their customers. 2) Also, you can’t charge the Lenovo 720 (model 15IKB) using the Thunderbolt port – again, most customers would for sure assume it would be able to charge the laptop, as this is one of the key new features of this connection type. 3) The lower speed shouldn’t be an issue, however, to transfer enough info to plug many extra 1920x1080 monitors (as of now I have three monitors running on a laptop that has only USB 3.0 ports – and is 6 years old!). This was not the case with the Lenovo 720 – I tried many different connectors (to HDMI and DVI monitors, some very high-end, like the triple display docking station from Plugable) and the quality was just poor – even simple spreadsheets and finance-related software (think Bloomberg) were showing numbers that were difficult to read. 4) One of the most bizarre issues I experienced was with Excel crashing if moving to a worksheet with reasonably complex charts. I use my laptop to perform heavy financial analysis (some spreadsheets are more than 2 Gb when opened – but my 6 years old laptop can handle it). However, running Office 2016 64-bit, was almost impossible. Not only because of the bizarre crashes when trying to display charts, but also due to how slow the cursor and cells selections, even in a data-only spreadsheet, would move. I of course re-installed Office 2016 multiple times as I couldn’t believe that the laptop could be so badly projected/built – it didn’t solve the issue. 5) Also, a myriad of software just wouldn’t work, regardless of how many times I re-installed them (many times with the help desk of the software company remotely connected to my laptop). For instance, I use a software called CompanionLink to sync my Google calendar/contacts/tasks with Outlook (although it is unbelievable that in 2017 one needs extra software to link a Google product to a Microsoft product). No matter what was done, this software wouldn’t work. The finance-related info software I was using, on top of showing low-resolution charts and figures, had a series of formatting issues of very simple menus – making it almost impossible to use. Also, a key feature of this finance software is to allow the user to download P&L / balance-sheet data released by companies – I couldn’t make it work (again, software re-installed multiple times with a company’s IT expert helping). 6) Finally, dragging and moving a software window (even a simple folder from windows File Explorer) from monitor to monitor, was a nightmare – a small window on the laptop would show-up as a gigantic window on a lower-resolution monitor, until you managed to make the window fit completely on the new window. This could be a Windows 10 bug, but given how many issues I had with this laptop, I’m assuming it is Lenovo’s fault. I guess you got the picture – nothing worked with this laptop. I consider myself a very savvy user – although I’m not an IT professional, I have been configuring and installing software/peripherical devices to my machines for many years. And I never had a worse experience than the one with this laptop from Lenovo. Returning it tomorrow. [quick note: Best-Buy’s return process was excellent – the person was very polite and took the defective laptop without any harassment]. Lastly, I will eventually need to upgrade my laptop. However, I strongly recommend that you stay away from this product (or any other from Lenovo) – they are selling a laptop that is basically a glorified video player (yes, when not plugged to anything, Netflix would play very well…). I’m looking now for an alternative – the Dell XPS 15 Touch came really close to satisfy my needs (i.e. very good processing power but still portable). However, I really don’t understand why Dell didn’t make this model with a 360-degree screen – a touchscreen laptop that you can’t use on a tablet mode? And you wouldn’t believe where they put the laptop camera (it is worthwhile checking it out: search for “Dell XPS 15 chin action” on Youtube!). For sure another case of a company rushing into production… If someone has a suggestion of a laptop with a i7 processor as good as the 7700HQ (or better; be careful with the ones with 7500U or lower – these processors are marginally better than my laptop bought 6 years ago), that has a touchscreen that turns 360-degrees (I still can’t believe that Dell didn’t have this on the XPS 15…) and have at least one true Thunderbolt 3, please respond to this posting with your suggestion!

Awesome Hybrid Gaming Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I've always wanted to have a 2 in 1 laptop but the graphics performance always seemed terrible in all of them... $1500 is very steep and i checked everywhere else where laptops are sold and generally sold for cheaper than best buy but NONE others had any graphics card like this one in it... my 3 year old gaming laptop weighing 3 times as much and being twice as big of a profile has a weaker graphics card and performance than this but has none of the 4k touch screen tablet mode goodness...this truly is the laptop of the future. Only thing i didn't like about this is how no pen is included in the box and that you have to buy that separately...they say the laptop is made for windows ink pens but won't even bother including one?

MASSIVE, COMMON MANUFACTURING DEFECT
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Please, please, please hear me out. There is an entire 67-page forum on the Lenovo website full of people that have had a thick black line appear across the top of the screen. These are not dead pixels, but rather the result of a sheet inside the screen slipping out of place. This issue happens within a few weeks of purchasing the product, regardless of how well you take care of it. I was fortunate enough to be within the return date and had mine replaced by Best Buy, only to have the EXACT same issue occur within a few weeks. Note: The forum page has been marked as solved, when it has not. Check out the link to see how many people have had this issue, only to have their laptop replaced with another defective unit. Other people have attempted to have the machine repaired numerous times, only to have the same dreaded line appear. It appears that nobody on the forum has been able to resolve this issue, unless replacing this laptop with a completely different model counts. This does not seem to be an issue with the cheaper, Full HD model of this laptop (though that model does not have a GTX 1050 in it). LINK: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/ll06_en/thread-id/53066/page/67 All of this aside, the machine has a great battery life, can run high-end games on low-to-mid graphics, and has quiet fans that keep the system relatively cool. It would be perfect as a mid-tier laptop, were it not for a glaringly apparent black line across the screen.

Does what I wanted
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The good, it does everything I need it to incuding CAD, vector graphics editing, video editing and the like. The bad: a faulty L key thanks to a broken hinge clip from day one that should have been found before it left the factory. Had everything installed and updated before I even noticed it. Thanks to a metered cellular connection I'm not going through the hassle of returning it for another so I guess it's time to look online for a replacement key hinge so I can actually type without issue.

Excellent computer for less than 1400$
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking to buy a laptop for my work for a while and was interested in Dell XPS and HP spectre. XPS was way too expensive and have heard about a lot of issues. HP was good but its only dual core with a weak GPU. Lenovo seems to have hit the sweet spot in terms of specs and price. for 1249, this computer is a steal. You get a 1050 GPU, 16G DDr4 and I7-7700 HQ. These are killer Specs. Over all I am quite impressed with this Laptop but I wish the screen is a little more brighter but its okay.

Want to beta test a 4K display?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like this laptop... for a Windows machine. As with any Windows machine, you will have to deal with bugs and memory leaks, but nothing a quick restart can't fix. I have owned this laptop for a couple months. The first one I had had a bad NIC in it and BB gladly replaced it even after a few days after the return policy expired. Cudos to BB. The only problem I have is that on both laptops, the brightness seems to change on its own even though "auto brightness" is disabled in both plugged and unplugged modes. We are all beta testers for 4K displays. Many apps don't support it and there is obviously bugs in the hardware. I'm hoping a firmware update fixes this in the near future. I would also like a firmware update to be able to disable the onboard graphics in the system bios. I edit photos in Lightroom and need to calibrate the monitor to match the printer output. There is an option to select which video adapter is selected for a particular application, but I don't trust that setting. I would also like to know which adapter is causing the brightness issue. If I had to do it over again, I would stay far away from a 4K display. I gave $1199 for this laptop in May. I would not give $1499 which is what it goes for now.

DO NOT BUY
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop about 6 months ago. The Lenovo Yoga 720 15" UHD. I had the black line issue just like everyone else on my laptop's screen which appeared after 2 months so I couldn't return it to Best Buy. So my only option was to get my laptop fixed under warranty. Lenovo did "fix the black line" (they didn't even tell me what part they replaced) and sent the laptop back to me. Now, a couple of months later, my laptop is again having issues with the screen. The screen constantly flickers and glitches. I have now contacted Lenovo again asking for an exchange since this laptop was obviously a piece of junk and they denied this request saying that they could only "repair the laptop". They did offer on-site repair rather than depot send-in but it has now been a week and I was told that a technician would be at my house to fix my laptop in THREE DAYS. After calling for the third time, they told us that it would be three days once they received the parts to repair it. This is an issue because I have to go to college in a week and although they "expedited" the repair parts, they don't seem to be coming any faster. If you're reading this review, DON'T BUY THIS LAPTOP! It's a trap. And it's definitely not worth $1400.

The Best
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best computer I've ever owned. I have like 15 apps open (text editors, ftp clients, ssh clients, browser, music player, etc) and 12 tabs in my browser and everything's running smoothly. The discrete graphics card is tremendous - games run really well. I had to set the resolution to 1920x1080 because a lot of apps don't work well in ultra mode, but eventually software companies will update their apps to work on higher resolution screens so I'm future proofing myself with this computer.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lenovos are my go to computers. I bought this computer in 2018 and a year later spilt liquid in it. Unfortunatly I did not buy a protection plan on it. That was my mistake. It never let me down though, so this year I bought a new lenovo and I do not regret it! hands down one of the best computers you can buy! Better than apple in my opinion!

Buy this laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I had seen all the negative reviews on the issues with the screen and was leary of buying this laptop. I considered several others mainly the Dell XPS 15 but it was hundreds more for the same features. Bought this laptop 3 weeks ago and so far there have been no issues at all. The screen is gorgeous, the laptop is super fast and the graphics are excellent. Love the keyboard. If you are looking at a laptop with top of the line features look no further and buy this one.

Dead on Arrival
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The laptop seemed great: beautiful touchscreen, very nice keyboard, enough graphical power to get the job done ... but unfortunately, the laptop's touch screen appears to be non-functional out of the box. This problem has been reported by others as well for this particular model of laptop. Removing / reinstalling drivers did not appear to fix the issue and forum posts suggest that others have had to exchange the product when they've run into this issue in the past, so ... that's the next step. This review will be either updated or removed if an exchange solves the hardware issue. In the interim, however: based on other reviews and forum postings, hardware reliability of this device is definitely sub-par. For what it's worth, it may only be wise to invest in this device if one also plans to invest in an extended warranty as well.

Great Specs with flaws
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The laptop runs great but has issues with the display. A thin black line gas appeared and on research, seems to be the issue with all 4k display units with the screen manufactured in China. the same issue has been stonewalled by Lenovo in their official forums without any good response. I will be coming in to replace the unit and hope I am lucky to get a better screen version.

Lenovo Not Picture Perfect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have two Lenovo laptops a W520 workstation and a Y70-70 touch. Both have had problems with the screen and I've had to replace them both. The Y70-70 is now beginning to show signs of failing again. I would not buy this computer for 3 reasons. 1) No hard drive of any size like at least 1TB and no mention of an extra bay to support the installation of a HD in addition to the SSD. The 512 GB SSD won't last long. 2) The nVidia 1050 graphic card is the bottom of that series and I believe they have discontinued it. 3) Windows 10 Home doesn't cut it because you cannot join a domain at the company where you work. You need Windows 10 Pro to join a domain. I would also consider issues with noise and heat that others have mentioned. Most of all I would expect to have screen problems at some point.

SO NOISY
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My Asus Republic of Gamers laptop was nearing the end of its life, and I wanted a PC laptop with a lot of memory, power, and speed to run Creative Suite and video editing programs. Smaller size is nice, but honestly not the most important factor. I had looked at the Dell XPS and the HP Spectre 360, but I wanted a 15 inch screen, and the Spectre seemed to have a lot of issues in that size. The XPS was more than I wanted to spend, so I thought found a nice compromise in the Lenovo Yoga. It is indeed relatively lightweight, and the flip around touch screen is nice. However, because of its flexibility, the screen shakes slightly when you type, and the glossiness of the screen means that there's too much of a reflection on any site with a darker background. The biggest problem for me though is that the laptop constantly sounds like it's about to overheat and shut down. It's VERY loud, even when all I'm running is a single open tab on the internet. My ROG laptop did not do this. My Dell Latitude E7470 that I use for work does not do this. It's overly warm when it's actually sitting on my lap, and the fan runs constantly even when the laptop is placed on a hard, flat surface. I have yet to install Microsoft Office or Adobe Creative Suite, so I can only imagine how awful the noise will be then. I had hoped there was a simple fix for this, but Lenovo's responses to reviews here seem to indicate that this is a normal state for the laptop. I'm incredibly disappointed that I spent this much money on a laptop that sounds like it's going to overheat and die at any second. I will be returning this to Best Buy and getting something else instead. This will likely be the last time I buy a Lenovo.

Posted .This is a high performance, ultra portable system with its Quad-Core, Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB solid state hard drive. It will generate heat whenever it is turned on, even at idle, this is normal. The onboard fan will maintain the proper operating temperature for the device. You will hear the fan whenever it runs, this too is normal. Be sure that the vents on this system are always kept clear.

Pay attention to the K/B
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had to purchase this in a hurry. It met my specs, but I wish I had paid attention to the keyboard. A 15" laptop should be able to accomodate a numeric key pad. If I had to do it again, I would purchase a different model.

I'm disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had my Lenovo Yoga 720 for 12 days. Since first use, I've had problems with the track pad. I can't get the cursor to move, and it won't let me click to open new web browsers. When it finally does open a program or web browser, it acts like I'm holding down the backspace key - and I get loads of \\\\\\\ in my web address box or my document. Sometimes I can't stop it, so it just keeps going. It happens when I use it after it's been in sleep state. I selected this laptop based on the recommendations of a Best Buy sales person. I need it for my home recording studio, and also for editing video. I'm afraid that it's not going to be enough laptop for what I need. I was told the RAM was expandable, but it isn't. And with the way my trackpad and browsers are freezing up when I open them, I can't imagine trying to run a DAW flawlessly. Lastly, I have a 10 year old Lenovo and the sound quality out of that far surpasses this. I've compared them side by side using my studio headphones and the sound quality and tonal range are much better than the Yoga 720. For the time being, I'm going to use the old one to listen to new mixes until I figure out what to do. Overall, I was really excited to buy this laptop. It was a really big purchase for me and after my convo with the sales person, I felt confident it would meet my needs. But now I'm just sad and stuck with something that I don't think will work for me. :(

You can get there by clicking on the magnifying glass at the bottom left of your Windows 10 screen. Type "touchpad" in the search window. Select "Mouse & touchpad settings" from the list of choices. You can make general adjustments to the touchpad there. You can also select "Additional mouse options" for more detailed adjustments to the touchpad sensitivity by increasing the delay of the touchpad.

Poor Fit and Finish, and Line on Screen
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very excited to get this device and was let down by the quality of this computer. 1st, the case on the bottom below the keyboard looked to have been put on in a hurry, the top and bottom halves were mis-aligned. 2nd, the top of the screen had the black line just like so many other people are complaining about. For 1400.00 and some change you would think they could have put a little more quality control in the release of this product.

Good when working
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.bought this for my son at college. When working it is great, but it locks up with a blue screen of death frequently. It has been returned to the Geek Squad 6 times in 1 year. They sent it out three of those times, it came back and locked again within a short time. Contacted Lenovo and they did give him a return authorization, but he has to have it for school so until it locks again he has to use it. Even the best systems sometimes fail, just disappointed that Geek Squad has been unable to repair.

Posted .We are sorry to hear that your son is having issues with his Yoga 720-15. Be sure any software you installed is compatible with Windows 10. There is no need to install Microsoft Office software. The software is already part of the operating system, you just need to activate the software with a purchased product key. If you have installed a copy of Microsoft Office, this is conflicting with the existing copy on the system and this will slow your system down. If you have installed a 3rd party anti-virus program, be sure that Windows Defender is turned off and that the trial version of McAfee Anti-Virus software is uninstalled. There can only be one anti-virus program on the system. You may need to restore your system to original factory default settings if any of the programing errors have occurred. You can do that by typing "restore" in the Cortana search window. Just click on the magnifying glass icon at the bottom left of your Windows 10 Desktop. Click on "Reset This PC" Then click on "Get Started" and follow the on screen directions to restore to factory defaults. Additionally, your son can check the health of the device easily and keep the operating system software up to date. This system has Lenovo utilities installed to help maintain the health of the device and keep the operating system software up to date. Type "Lenovo Vantage" in the Cortana Search window (if Lenovo Vantage is not installed on your device, you can download the APP and install it now). Select Lenovo Vantage from the list. In the window that opens, click on "Health and Support". In the expanded menu, select "Hardware Scan" In the window that opens, select "Run Quick Tests". This will scan your entire system for errors. Follow any directions that may pop up. If the problem continues after this scan, now click on "System Update". First select Windows update from the menu. Scan your system to be sure you have the latest version of Windows 10. Once that scan is complete, select "Additional Updates". This will scan your device to be sure there are no new BIOS/Driver updates needed. Follow any instructions that may pop up. If the issue still continues after these updates, we recommend you call Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686 for additional help.

Reluctantly returned it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The laptop itself was great in the software and specs side of things. It literally has what I wanted in a laptop. But... much to my personal dismay I had to return it. I didn't experience the common black line across the screen type of deal, but there is one common problem with this and the laptops that came before it in the Yoga line has. It had something to do with the hinge. The left hinge was uneven. This was not very noticeable when it was open but when the laptop is closed, you can definitely see it. The space between the monitor and the laptop itself was also crooked looking. With the way it looked, there was a possibility that the monitor might be disconnected in due time or the condition of rhe hinge might get worse. I looked at the display of this laptop at Best Buy and found the same problem, only a lot worse. This definitely isn't rhe first time that Lenovo has had a problem with the hinges on their laptop, in fact the YOGA laptops that came before this had the same problem. Not just the YOGA line but the Edge line as well. I hated having to return this since I liked it a lot but I couldn't take the risk of having an insane hinge issue months down the line. Same with the risk of coming across that black line problem. That being said, Lenovo is generally really good but the past 2 years they have been lacking in the quality control. Very much so in fact. I truly hope that they actually remedy this problem with the 730 or if they ever come out with a 740.
