    Beware the screen defect!!!

I purchases this laptop in June and was really liking it until this week. The screen is failing - first black lines appear, then flickering, then it goes all black. Unusable. I checked the online Lenovo forums and this seems to be an issue for many. I haven't seen a resolution either. Many users were instructed to send in their machines for repair (of a motherboard flaw?) and have been waiting over a month with poor customer support. Buyers remorse for sure!!

I bought the first model from best buy. It's screen started flickering on second day! I exchanged it after 3 trips to best buy and got a different laptop of the same model. Test ran it in store to make sure its fine. But, after 3 months of using it, its screen went out again! Sent it for repair to lenovo who promise "9 business days" repair, but its been 30 days and I still haven't received my laptop. I have raised an escalation for replacement but I never hear from their representatives. Don't know when I'll get back my laptop. DONOT buy this garbage, it wan't that great a laptop to begin with anyway.

    AVOID! Known screen flickering defect.

Avoid this laptop! On paper this looks like a great laptop, however Lenovo has shipped a large percentage of defective units. Just Google "Lenovo Yoga 730 screen flickering" to see what I mean. Lenovo knows about this defect yet refuses to do anything about it, and their tech support is notoriously horrendous. I've wasted months trying to get them to fix my laptop to no avail. Frankly, I don't think they've actually developed a permanent fix. This is second Lenovo laptop I've bought that turned out to be a lemon; there will not be a third. Do yourself a favor and buy any brand other than Lenovo.

Worse laptop ever purchased, less than 6 months, the screen started flickering, sent it away 2wice. The keyboard stopped working is the latest issue. Stay away from this laptop. Also, Lenovo knows of this flickering screen, check the forums, they just chose to do nothing about it.

Nice Little Machine - Terrible Reliability So Far

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this computer for my daughter to take to college. First six weeks were great but since then nothing but trouble. First issue was a bad power button. Spent a ton of time on hold with Lenovo tech support finally to troubleshoot the bad power button. Drop off at Best Buy and wait 2 weeks to get back. Second issue is major screen flicker. My daughter mentioned it a week ago and I was hoping it would go away. It didn't. Became so bad that the computer became unusable and I have to go pick up computer tonight to drop off at Best Buy tomorrow for another two week journey to Lenovo. Two hours of wasted time on the front end and another two once I get it back. So, in the 15 weeks I will have owned the computer when I get it back, Lenovo will have had it for four of those weeks. Obviously a manufacturing issue / quality control issue that has not been resolved as the screen flicker is mentioned in a number of reviews. Great little machine other than the reliabiltiy.

Great laptop if you want repeated problems

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have had repeated problems with this laptop and it is barely over a year old. The first problem occurred within three months of owning the laptop, specific keys stopped working so I sent it in through warranty and then a week later one of the charging ports stopped working. A few month later the power button stopped working and I had to send it in again. Then a few months after getting it back the keyboard stopped working again and I had to send it in. Now it is past warranty and just barely a year and two months old and the speakers on this laptop are scratchy and has a vibrating undertone to the point where I refuse to use the volume over 30. The battery goes by so quickly I can hardly use this laptop for two straight hours; the percentage goes down about 1% per minute. Then, I realized that one of the tabs connecting the screen to the keyboard is loose and is missing a screw. As I haven't touched or messed with those connecters I can only assume that when it went in for repairs to Lenovo they did not put it together correctly. I am not blaming Best Buy for this laptop but rather Lenovo, but this is one of the few places I can leave a review. This laptop has caused me so much stress and pain and I wish I had never picked up this laptop.

I bought this laptop and had it exchanged with no improvement. It doesn't stay connected to wifi and has an extremely dark screen. Apparently, these are not the only problems that these laptops have (read other reviews about screen flickering). For almost $900, you shouldn't be getting something that is more likely than not faulty right out of the package.

    Screen flickering issue

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Purchased this computer at the end of August for school. It is a good computer, if you get lucky and don't have a model that has screen issues. When the screen flickering occurs the computer becomes unusable. The issue didn't start until it was too late to return the product. I can't afford to be without a computer for the time a repair would take or the costs of repairing the computer 3 months after purchasing it. I wanted a computer that worked, not a money pit. If you are purchasing a computer for any type of work where you are reliant on a computer, look for a different product from a different product line.

I bought this computer a couple days ago after reading many glowing reviews, but about 2 hours after opening I realized that I had to return it. The screen was flickering, horribly whenever I would do anything. It would get worse if the computer moved or I tried to play a video too. I decided to exchange this in hopes that it would work, but alas after only a couple hours the screen started flickering, just like before. Despite running two tests to see what’s going on and updating whatever was availible, nothing worked. I included a video of the screen flickering tl;dr spend your money on a different laptop

I purchased this laptop in July 2018. 2 months later, the screen flickers, to the point where you cannot even look at it! After continuously flickering, it will either black out or go white. After researching the problem it appears to be YOGA WIDE. I have tried to contact support, tried both email and phone - no response and no answer. I then order a call back - surprise surprise no call. I am left with a defective $1,000 laptop and zero help from Lenovo. If someone from Best Buy/Lenovo see's this please help me! I am desperate.

Slow, not good for basic online use!

I bought this laptop a few months before I took a trip around the world. Thought it would be light to travel with and the quick charge seemed like a good feature. Just need it for basic online correspondence and entertainment. But it is slow as dirt. I’ve tried to fix to no avail. Took it to geek squad at Best Buy charged $100 for a once over and got a minimal bump connectivity speed. They striped off the excessive add ware, removed programs running in back ground, upgraded security software. Minimal increase in speed, I think removing McAfee was the main help. I’m now traveling so Best Buy is not an option. Took it to an IT guy who removed and reloaded the driver software and tried a few other tricks - nope -no help. He said it may be a defect or lenovo’s may just be painfully slow. I had a very old Lenovo at work that was way faster than this. He said Lenovo has had issues with incompatible components?Tried to contact Lenovo support but no options to submit for help. They don’t use email. They don’t allow chat from abroad. They have an app that took two hours to down load but crashed the laptop trying to install. The only option is to call them which is endless hold. Not cheap or convenient from abroad because they only allow I call the region I bought it from. Call-in is the only option?! Really? Can’t return. 3 months in, with AOL dial up speed. My options and patience are diminishing, may have to write this off and move on. Lenovo if your out there please let me know if you have any ideas. Junk- Don’t buy this computer.

    Incredibly Glitchy Computer

At first I was really pleased with this laptop. It was fast and user friendly. However, I purchased an external monitor to use with it. After many, many hours of troubleshooting (both on my own and with Lenovo support), it was determined that the video card was not properly installed. I will need to send it in for 9 business days to get this repaired. Not exactly helpful as I am a grad student who uses this computer every single day. The most frustrating part is that less than 3 months into my ownership, the screen began flickering. It now flickers almost anytime it is moved slightly. I video recorded the entire screen flickering to the point that it was unusable for a full 90 seconds. I am very disappointed in my purchase and can only imagine the problems I will have with this computer if in less than 3 months it is already been a complete nightmare. Hoping it survives until finals are over.

Laptop was great... for a month

Bought this laptop for vet school, so I need it to be very reliable. It was great for the first month of use (I treated it very gently), then it started flickering as other reviews describe. As it was under warranty, I called Lenovo to get it repaired. They promised to mail me the needed part and send a technician to fix it. A full month later, I'd received no parts and heard nothing about a technician. So I called again, and this time, they offered to have me FedEx my laptop to them for repairs. After paying over $20 to ship it and waiting another three weeks, my laptop arrived back at my door. The package contained my laptop and SOMEONE ELSE'S charger, which did not fit my laptop. Both items even had stickers with service order numbers that did not match. I love the idea of this laptop, but it is not durable and the repair center seems incompetent and disorganized.

I've had Lenovo products before and I won't be completely writing them off but this laptop was a waste of time. Even after I read reviews stating the wifi has a problem with disconnecting, I still gave it a try. I purchased this laptop on the advice of an in-store Lenovo representative who lauded Lenovo's superior build and performance. After owning it for 2 days here are the issues that made me return it; 1- The firngerprint reader almost immediately quit working. 2- Wifi kept disconnecting. 3- The battery wouldn't charge. When plugged in it gave a message: "Battery plugged in but not charging. To be fair, I really liked the design and wanted to make this work but after encountering so many problems so quickly I gave up. My advice would be to pass on this model.

The issues you describe: fingerprint reader and WiFi, are issues that can be corrected by installing the latest version of Windows 10 on the computer. Then update to the latest BIOS files and drivers - There are new drivers available for the latest version of Windows 10. You can easily accomplish this update and be sure you are updating all necessary files, by using the Lenovo Utility software installed on the computer. With regard to the battery, the plugged in, not charging is normal for the Windows Battery Saver software. To save the battery and extend the battery, Windows will not charge a battery with more than 80-percent charge. Once the battery charge drops below 80-percent, the battery will begin charging as normal. This system has Lenovo utilities installed to help maintain the health of the device and keep the operating system software up to date. Got this computer for college, less than a month in and the screen began flickering and black bars across it. Now it’s to the point where it’s blacking out every time I use it. I called Lenovo Support (waited 45min to talk to someone) and I have to ship it in to be fixed and they will return it within 9 business days. It’s just upsetting because this wasn’t a cheap laptop and clearly I’m not the only person this is happening to and they have failed to correct the problem. It’s very inconvenient, especially when my laptop is necessary for most classes/assignments.

We are sorry to hear that you are having screen flicker issues with your Lenovo Yoga 730-13. This issue may be caused by a recent Windows 10 update that requires an additional update to the BIOS and video driver updates to the device. This can be easily accomplished by using the Lenovo Utility software installed on the device. This system has Lenovo utilities installed to help maintain the health of the device and keep the operating system software up to date. Type "Lenovo Vantage" in the Cortana Search window (if Lenovo Vantage is not installed on your device, you can download the APP and install it now). Select Lenovo Vantage from the list. In the window that opens, click on "Health and Support". In the expanded menu, select "Hardware Scan" In the window that opens, select "Run Quick Tests". This will scan your entire system for errors. Follow any directions that may pop up. If the problem continues after this scan, now click on "System Update". First select Windows update from the menu. Scan your system to be sure you have the latest version of Windows 10. Once that scan is complete, select "Additional Updates". This will scan your device to be sure there are no new BIOS/Driver updates needed. Follow any instructions that may pop up. If the issue still continues after these updates, we recommend you call Lenovo Tech Support at: 877-453-6686 for additional help. lenovo

I bought this laptop thinking it would be good for grad school, and it was for about two weeks until the screen started flickering. I immediately contacted lenovo support (after waiting almost 2 hours on hold) and they told me it was a software problem and that they could fix it by remotely controlling my laptop. This obviously didn't fix the problem so after a month of calling they gave me the option to send it in to a lenovo service provider, but that I would most likely be without my laptop for upwards of two weeks... not super practical for a brand new laptop. I dealt with the flickering the best I could but it got to the point where the laptop was hardly usable. It took less than 4 months for the flickering to completely take over and make the laptop useless.

We are sorry to hear that you are having screen flicker issues with your Lenovo Yoga 730-13. This issue maybe caused by a Windows 10 update. If you have updated BIOS and video drive software and the issue continues, you may first need to restore the Windows 10 operating system back to factory default. If your Yoga 730-13 will not currently boot to Windows 10, this system is equipped with OneKey Recovery System. There is a very small pin hole on the left side of the device, right near the headphone jack on the device. You will need a pin to push this reset button. Plug the device in. Let the battery charge for about 15 minutes. Push the reset button. The system should boot to a choice screen where you can choose "Restore To Factory Default". Select this. It will delete everything from the hard drive except the original factory install of the operating system. Once the system restore is complete, you now can update Windows 10 and all other BIOS and drivers operating system software by using the Lenovo Utility software installed on this computer.
