I was always curious of how i could automate my home after the purchase of my google home. The Phillips Hue system seemed too expensive and very complicated to install. So i gave these a try they are super simple to install and you dont need to buy a bridge to connect it to your router. You can set it up to you wifi using the Lifx app. After that you'll need to link it to your google home by adding a device in the google home app and scrolling until you see lifx. After naming the light you can gave google turn on and off the light also have Google change the color. I think this is the best system for the price and ease of use.

Happy to say, these have been great bulbs for me and would get them again. I’ve had older bulbs that worked ok, but didn’t work with HomeKit. These do, no problems. Also seen comments of people having problems with these bulbs, but I’ve not - always responding and turning on or off, changing color or whatever I set with very little delay. Very happy.

I’ve used both these and the Hues. The range on these are much better but don’t have the accessories the Hue has. However, I like the flexibility of the App more with the LIFX. Additionally, these are brighter and no hub is required.

Pros: Great mood lighting Make and save your own themes Dimmable (but don't use with a dimmer switch) Rich colors Some cool pre-canned effects, i.e. Flicker, Color Cycle, Spooky, etc. (these are customizable) consume very little power I like the simple app No hub needed Convenient to turn on and off all lights in the house at once. Geo fence. Lights will come on for you, or the kids, just by pulling into the driveway. Safety feature. Keep your phone by your bed. If you hear a bump in the night you can very quickly turn on any light, room full of lights or all lights. At 25% power, in color mode, they are burning less that a watt each. I like that you can turn the I.R. mode off. With I.R. on, below around 9 watts your power consumption will jump from 0.5 watts to 7.6 watts. Even when you believe the light are off - they aren't really. They are giving off I.R. light and burning 7.6 watts each. Grouping lights by room and by house. Great for entertaining. You can put up some soothing, cozy colors. They really set the atmosphere - when you have enough of them. Decorate your room, or house, with light. Best with white or off-white walls. Cons: They are heavy. I can see the horizontal arms, under the lamp shades, holding the sockets sagging under the weight. Most light sockets were designed for an incident bulb that weighs next to nothing. These Lifx bulbs replaced normal 40 watt equivalent or 4 watts LED bulbs that also weighed next to nothing. They can often loose connection, although I haven't noticed as much of that lately. I probably returned at least a dozen that would never connect or stay connected even after bulb resets. (Turn on and off 5 times) They get pretty hot for an LED bulb. The 4 watt bulbs barely got warm and that's good for your AC. For best signal the router manual says: "Place the router away from large glass surfaces." If your light bulb is enclosed in a ceiling fixture, chances are it's behind glass. But that's not why mine are only in table and floor lamps. Also not due to the builder-grade ceiling lights with weak, flimsy assembly between the socket and the light fixture. Although if I tried installing one in a ceiling fixture - that might become a reason. When you turn on a light switch, your probably doing it because you need light. My Lifx light would come on set to Red or Blue, etc. at 25% power. This does not work if you turned on the light to look for something. So you have to go find your phone and open the app, set it to White, turn up the brightness. That's not convenient. So ceiling lights are for actual light and table and floor lamps are for mood lighting. With the weird shape, they won't work with every fixture. They barely fit under some of the Tiffany shades. Some of the shades had to be raised a small amount to accommodate the squared off corners. If you have a lot. They take up a lot of spots on your router. The BR30 version doesn't not completely turn off unless you cut the power. Once your eyes adjust to the dark room, you'll see a very faint glow - even through a translucent lamp shade. It's very dim and not a big deal but it is definitely not fully off. The A19s are all in Tiffany lamps with cut glass shades - so they are behind glass, mostly. Something the router manual says to avoid. The BR30s are in floor lamps with either Alabaster style or cut glass shades. Again, behind glass. The metal arms on the table lamp sockets are metal tubular steel and built solid - yet because these arms are horizontal I can see the arms sagging under the weight. Some of the bulbs are sort of peeking out from under these shades - not so with the LED bulbs that were in these lamps. The socket on one arm actually broke under the weight. I have yet to try and fix that.

I purchased two of these bulbs to light my bedroom and was worried at first if it would effectively light the whole room. It does so perfectly and there is light in every corner. I have a dimmer switch in my room, which makes the bulbs emit an audible buzzing sound, even when on full brightness. The pitch and volume of the buzz changes based on the bulb’s brightness and color setting. I am planning on getting the dimmer switch removed to make the noise stop. I LOVE the colors these bulbs put out. The range of white temperatures is awesome for different times of the day and the colors are great for entertaining and mood lighting. The one color area I feel the bulbs are lacking is the yellows but I rarely use yellow so it doesn’t bother me too much. The setup process was a bit of a pain, requiring me to reset the bulbs a few times in order to get them paired with Apple HomeKit. Speaking of integration, these bulbs work great with smart home devices. I find that when using Siri from my iPhone to make commands for the bulbs, the response time is very quick. However, I have an occasional issue where if I tell her to change the bulbs to a certain color she will, but will also set the brightness to 0%, plunging me in darkness if it’s nighttime and requiring another command. This isn’t frequent but it is an existing problem. I also have an Amazon Echo Dot which, while slower to put the command through, gets it right 100% of the time. Something I didn’t expect and was pleasantly surprised with was that the blue light from these bulbs makes neon objects glow as if they were under a black light. One last feature I enjoy is the wide range of colors recognized by the smart home assistants. I’ve had success with fuschia, indigo, turquoise, scarlet, and more. Overall these bulbs, while pricey, are a great and fun addition to most people’s lives. Pros: Color Clarity Bright Fairly easy to set up App is great Cons: Buzzing with a dimmer switch Price Assistants can be wonky

Love these lights, we have many throughout the house. They are very easy to set up, can use with AppleHomekit and Siri! There is no hub for these just basically "plug and play" Many many many colors to choose from. Can use Geofencing so the light will come on when you arrive and go off (if you want) when you leave. Love to use with different "scenes", we have the lights set up to change color when we tell Siri to watch a movie. We didn't think we would use the different colors as much as we do!

Bulb is very bright colors are vivid. The possibilities with this light are great as long as you know what you're doing. Set up can be problematic with a 5G and 2.4 G router modem and the music visualizer built-in needs some work. That said I do plan on buying another one.

These might be pricey compared to a lot of other smart bulbs, but they are far superior to a dozen other major brands that I tested. Brighter, more saturated colors, and WAY better app. The only thing I would improve is the setup process. It can be a bit tricky. After you get it all set up, though it’s an incredibly smooth and seamless experience. Works great with Alexa. You get what you pay for.

LIFX lights are great with a caveat

LIFX lights used to be the only bright multi-color LED bulb and are far more color rich because of their brightness than some other brands. LIFX lights are Wi-Fi lights so don’t need a hub. (Hubs are used to connect/control zigbee and Z-Wave/Z-WavePlus devices). If you’re looking for solid multi-colored lights these are great - especially when they are on sale. They are expensive not a sale and still more than I’d like them to be when on sale. Other than that they work well.

This smart light bulb is amazing. Bought if for my granddaughter, she quickly figured out how to use the app on her iphone to control the light. She loves it, and sets it for her mood colors, the range of color is fantastic. She sets it for red, and says it helps her fall asleep. She sets it for deep blue, and says it relaxes her. This is just a wonderful light fixture, fun, and practical also ! I might get one for myself :).

I use this LIFX bulb for the lamp in the corner of my living room. When creating a "room" in the LIFX app, this bulb adds even more color choice to my living room as I also have two LIFX (BR30 style) bulbs in the recessed lighting in the ceiling. These LIFX bulbs are brighter than Philips Hue and provide even richer blues/greens than the third generation Hue bulbs. The LIFX app works great and is easier to set up and change colors/scenes than Hue as well. LIFX are also compatible with Alexa which I use every day.

Both better and worse than Philips Hue

For the past half year I've used Philips Hue bulbs at both home and office, and while I like them well enough, they have their shortcomings (poor colour quality between yellow and blue, too dim for some photography situations). I purchased a Lifx bulb to compare, hoping that it might integrate with my existing home automation setup. Better: - Significantly more saturated colours with superior, more predictable colour quality. Setting a Lifx bulb to yellow-orange, for example, doesn't leave you with an anaemic yellow that's strangely "not quite right" (like Philips Hue)...it's actually yellow-orange. - Light temperatures are ease to set in the app, and the white colour quality looks good. - Brighter than Philips Hue. - Doesn't require a hub. This is good if you want to try only one bulb out as your first foray into home automation; there's no additional investment required so long as you have an available wifi network. Worse: - Big, bulky, and very, very heavy bulbs won't fit all fixtures and require plenty of ventilation. Philips Hue is easier and more reliable to use in standard household fittings. - Light spread appears to be more heavily weight towards the top of the bulb. Again, Philips Hue behaves more like a standard bulb, with more even distribution of light. - Ugly bulb shape. This probably doesn't matter to most people, but if you have any fixtures that use translucent or transparent materials, Lifx bulbs will stand out, and in my opinion, not in a good way. - After years of claiming HomeKit support was just around the corner, Lifx still hasn't delivered on their promises. This might not be a deal breaker for anyone that's ok with constantly having to use their phone to control lights, or use an assistant like Google Home or Amazon Alexa. I don't. I want physical remotes and motion detectors, both of which are integrated natively with the Philips Hue system. Without HomeKit support, I cannot use my AppleTV to bridge between the two systems. I'm certainly not going to purchase yet-another-home-automation-network like Samsung SmartThings in order to control Lifx bulbs. - Doesn't use a hub and relies on your home wifi network. Yes, this is both better and worse. I didn't have issues, but I only tested one bulb for a short period of time. Consumer level wifi networks are notoriously flimsy, and I wouldn't want my lighting to depend on my wifi network. Personal preference, but founded in what I believe are reasonable concerns about reliability.

We really love these smart bulbs!!! This was the 1st one we bought for our home & now every room has one! I love that it syncs with Amazon’s Alexa so easily it’s like the modern day clap on clap off but with many more options. It has many colors, effects & within the app you’re able to set the light to turn on/off/change colors & different effects at different times of the day, there are so many options within the app
