It says "make sure the light is solid white" (but doesn't tell you what to do if light keeps blinking and then turns to red). I moved the extender 2 feet from my main wireless router, and no change in blinking. I'll be returning this item and trying something else.

The LED status of the range extender means that the device is having a hard time establishing a connection. Make sure that the firmware version of the device is updated to improve the current performance of the device. I get half with the router, why would i want half of half in my bedroom.

Ok for about 5 minutes

I followed the instructions and set it up. It worked perfectly fine for the first 5 minutes then it lost signal. I kept having to reset the signal to the main router for it to work, but then it only worked for about 5 minutes and it would lose signal. Not sure why it would lose the signal. I returned the item.

The distance of the Linksys RE6500 from your router may one of the reason why you encounter losing signal from it. It is recommended to place it in between the router and the area without Wi-Fi, and it should get at least 50-percent of the signal from your router.
