    Unreliable; Fails within 36 hours

Tried using this as a media bridge to connect 3 Ethernet only devices to the rest of the network over 2.4G and 5G wireless. It worked initially, but within 12 - 36 hours it would lock up and stop working. Wired clients no longer had network access (even to each other) and pings from wired devices to the extender failed. A power cycle was required to get it working temporarily. Worked with Belkin Support (they own Linksys now) to try to fix it. Tried updated firmware, using only a single wireless band at a time, factory resets, and more, but would still lock up in less than 2 days. Returned for a refund.

      Hi, MediaBridge,

The Range Extender is expected to provide a stable connection once configured. In this case, there could be factors that caused the connection to drop. We understand that you've returned the product, but please know that you can email us at [email protected] should you need help with your other Linksys devices.

So far it has been terrible for reliability. When it works, it is great but as I stated that’s when it works. Multiple times it’ll disconnect and not work right.

The other reviews give the impression that this product extends the range of your WiFi network. This is incorrect. What it does instead is create a new WiFi network with a different name and a different, overlapping range. If you move around with your devices, they may get confused or switch. Wireless printers on one will not be able to talk to devices on the other, and similarly for any other type of connectivity between devices that relies on them being on the same network. Also it did not really extend the range. Unfortunately I only realized this after I had thrown away the packaging, so I wasted $70 on a device I can't use.

      Hi, OldVictorian,

The RE6500 Wireless Extender lets you repeat the wireless signal of any access point or router through a wireless connection on either the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz frequency band. It gives you an option to manually configure its wireless settings if you want to use the same name as the router's.

For an optimal range, we suggest resetting the device and taking advantage of the Spot Finder Feature to help you find the best location. Get in touch with us at [email protected] so we can get you over to our Escalation Engineers for further assistance. Don't forget to include your contact details and the link to this review for reference.

      Hi Millenniumshopper,

Aside from having an outdated firmware, one of the factors that can cause connectivity issue is the distance of your RE6500 extender from the main Wi-Fi router. If you still have the product, we'll take this chance to have one of our Escalation Engineers reconfigure the extender to achieve a stable and fast internet connection. Email us anytime at [email protected] with your contact details and the link to this post for easy reference.

      Hi, Andres,

Yes, the RE6500 Wireless Extender is capable to extend your Wi-Fi coverage area of up to 10,000 square feet, however, metal objects, appliances, thick walls, and floorings would cause signal interference. In your case, you can try relocating the Extender and taking advantage of its Spot Finder Technology Feature to guide you where to position the unit to maximize its performance. Should you need a hand, feel free to contact us directly at [email protected] and we'll request one of our Escalation Engineers to guide you through the process. This device runs hot which causes it to crash all the time. Have only owned it for 9 months and i am going to have to replace it. Over 9 months it has crashed every week or so. No rhyme or reason. Unplugging it, letting it cool down (sometimes in the freezer) and plugging it back in works most of the times. But we get the dreaded orange light followed by fast blinking white led of death way to often. Save your frustration snd buy something else. All linksys products appear to have a cooling problem.

      Hi, TechByDay,

If your RE6500 Extender is relocated in a well-ventilated area within its recommended operating temperature (32 to 104 F (0 to 40 C), then it shouldn't overheat causing constant crashes. We'll have one of our Escalation Engineers get in touch with you and check if this could be a possible firmware or hardware issue. Went to store with intent to buy separate wireless router with longer range than FIOS. Associate directed me to range extender to solve issue and cost less. Unfortunately, this device does not keep the connections constant and produces poorer performance than the low signal from the router does at a distances. Should have gone with initial plan of just a better router and not followed sales person's suggestion.

The challenges that you are currently experiencing may be caused by signal interference between the main router and the range extender. With a few adjustments on its settings and placement, we should minimize it and achieve the performance that you are expecting.
