Simple set up. Works great.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We are sharing a wifi signal with neighbors at our vacation homes and needed to boost it. Upon the recommendation of the sales staff at Best Buy I first purchased the Apple Airport Express. It sat there looking all white and pretty and did absolutely nothing. After many frustrating attempts I finally managed to connect it to the network but it produced no signal boost in the second home. I quickly returned that and purchased the Linksys RE6500. I plugged it in and waited less than 60 seconds for it to find the network, signed in, and done! It boosted the signal from 3 bars to 5 and I didn't even have to bang my head against the wall! Great product!

Not Plug N' Play
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Despite have a Linksys router, the extender took hours of manipulating recessed codes on both the unit and the router. Very frustrating. After about three hours of fiddling, we got it to work. Seems fine, for time being. I am pretty tech savy. This should have been simple.

Great so far!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pretty easy set up for basic secure wi-fi. Using a Linksys AC1750 router with this extender in a 4,000 sq ft house. Supports MAC address filtering and permits no broadcasting of SSID as an option....however.....MAC address filtering on the router uses a different MAC address than the one on the extender (last number different)...had to disable the filter on the router, connect to the extender, find the second MAC Address in Windows Explorer (right click on extender and clicking on 'network'), and add that address to the filter list on the router. The Extender doesn't seem to require any new MAC Addresses.

Don't Bother With This.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bottom Line: Find another product. I just bought this yesterday and finally got around to setting it up this morning. The device found my router just fine. However, whenever I entered my password from my router for the SSID's into the extender, I kept getting the error message stating that my passwords are incorrect. I have verified multiple times that I AM inputting the correct password. This device isn't compatible with my ASUS RT-N66U router. Linksys has really fallen from grace in recent times. What a shame. I'm returning this one today to get another extender.

Great Product for the Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have gig service through Comcast. My home office and my son's gaming computer were on the fringe of coverage from the router so we installed one of these at each desk and connected via ethernet. That really boosted our speeds. The main limitation of this device is that it is only capable of an 80mhz bandwidth but our router we were connecting to was capable of 160mhz. So I eventually upgraded to a different extender capable of 160mhz. That is ultimately what solved my speed issue.

Bought 2 of these beauties!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I use these with my ASUS router. Getting 59mbps everywhere in a 3700sqft house. Recommend you use the hardwares admin page to give them (unique) static IP's on your network, otherwise your likely to have issues with IP conflicts with your router's DHCP (assign IP outside your DHCP IP range!). I have one of these with a PSTV hooked up via Ethernet. Minimizes LAG. Fully recommend! Enjoy! :)

Aggravating and unknown certainty
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was hoping for an easy installation, increase performance of internet (range output), and not getting headaches. I found out the hard way, that the wireless isn't as simple as I thought. The best way would be to hardwire it and sync with your current router. But what is confusing, is when you get into the range extender setup IP address, it was a headache to try and configure or it would disconnect, lousy range coverage. I called Linksys for further guidance and of course, it was a headache, since the person I was talking to wasn't listening to what I was saying. Trying to reset the range extender and get a better connection with my router and extender. Well, apparently I was difficult to deal with and the representative said there was "Technical Difficulties" on her end, which IMO meant she was not being productive or efficient with helping me. So of course, I got transfered to someone else. End result, I got the RE6500 synced with my router, but I do not see any difference with connection improvement; I do see however, unreliable and poor connectivity since I hooked this up. Background of where I am using this. 1700 sq ft house, router WNDR3700 dual band router, Main Tower Linksys WMP600N Wireless-N PCI Dual-Band adapter. Router is upstairs next to hallway and range extender is downstairs next to hallway. All in all, roughly 20 ft from each other.

Posted .Hi LinksysRE6500,
Our regrets for the inconvenience that you had with the RE6500 extender and we appreciate your time is sharing your valuable feedback. The RE6500 router should be able to extend the wireless signal of your router which is only 20 feet away and should be getting the full wireless signal strength. We'd like to offer further assistance and update your case with Linksys. Please email us your case number at [email protected] together with the link to this review so we can properly assist you.

Setup Issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setup Issues No detailed setup instructions accompanied the product. Could not get the extender to establish connectivity with the router. Linksys needs to provide detailed setup and operating instructions, as well as a troubleshooting guide with the product. If you encounter any issues with the setup, there is absolutely no documentation to assist. I returned the product and repositioned my router in my home and saved myself $100.

works
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It works fine, right now I'm only using it as a wireless bridge for a blu ray player in a bedroom as I don't really need the wifi range boosted. Only problem is that the picture shows an on/off switch on the back but there isn't one. Maybe a previous version had it. It'd be nice to have as I don't stream in the bedroom that often and unplugging it is a bit of a hassle as I have a surge protector mounted halfway down the back of the dresser and it's a reach. Only uses 5 watts when on but 24 hrs 365 days a year...

Did what i needed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My router is in the basement and was able to spread wifi through out the whole 2500 sf house. Unfortunately my garage workshop is 90 ft away and i was unable to get netflix there. This extender was connected to my network in about 15 minutes and I placed it upstairs near the closest wall to the garage figuring it was worth a try before buying expensie directional antennas. Needless to say, I'm glad I did since I have a reliable connection and High Def movies!

Not what I expected
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before I bought this, I read a bunch of reviews and it sounded amazing, but once I actually bought it, I was very disappointed. It kinda did what it was supposed to do for the first week, then it just stopped giving me a good internet connection. Definitely not worth all the money I dropped on this.

I hate buffering
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchase this extender to allow my husband to have wifi in the garage to listen to pandora, etc. The connection seemed to be good but after about a half hour of playing it either quits or has continuous buffering. It may work to reset the router but it is a hassle. Hopefully we can return.

Posted .Hi, amouse12,
We're alarmed on how your wireless extender behaves. Let's get this fixed. We need to reflash the firmware and reconfigure the unit. Then to achieve maximum wireless coverage, it is recommended that your range extender is getting at least 50% of your router’s Wi-Fi signal and is located midway between your router and the area without Wi-Fi. You can also try to log in to the Spot Finder page and determine your signal and move the range extender according to the Spot Finder results.
Please get in touch with us so we can walk you through the process in resolving this setback. Send us an email at LinksysCares@linksys.com along with your contact information, the review title and the link to this post for reference.
We'll wait for your email.

Excellent Extender
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My old extender finally died, so, since the router was a Linksys, I bought an extender to match. Seems the latest technology doesn't even require a CD to get it running -- it was all completely automatic plug-and-play. It just appeared on my list of networked devices, and all I had to do was type in the network password. It popped up a graphic that showed I was just slightly beyond the range of "excellent" connectivity with the router, but I connected it anyway, and I was done. All of my devices connected with it flawlessly. Simple and effective. No need for anything more more expensive.
